scottyg reacted to tcgjake in Latest tattoo lowdown.....
Here are some of my recent, mostly unposted (I posted a bloody picture of the rose but nothing since it healed) tattoos. The Toy Story Alien was a Friday the 13th tattoo that I had reworked.
Zoltar and the Claw Machine are courtesy of Dillon Eaves at Charnel House and the rest are from Vince Maravel at Chapman Ave Tattoo with the exception of the original alien.

scottyg reacted to cgrave in Ink Stain on Skin
It's not an ink stain. As @scottyg mentioned, tattooing creates an open wound. In the course of the healing process, a scab forms, much like it does for any other wound. This scab will usually be the same colour as the ink. As the healing process progresses, it gradually flakes off.
Scabbing usually takes place within 2-3 days but the peeling/flaking off part can take 2-3 weeks or even longer depending on a whole lot of variables.
Just keep it dry and clean and try not to scratch, peel or pull off the scabs or flaking bits. If it gets too dry, a little unscented moisturiser should help to prevent it from cracking. But you should seriously follow the advice of your tattoo artist with regards to aftercare.

eh, not much more that a week or so. it's an open wound, and the new layer of skin needs to grow over it.

scottyg reacted to Alan Senior in Tattoo not healing right need advice ASAP
hey man, i’m no professional but i would give it a few more days, keep using antibacterial soap and make sure it’s fragrance free!
also try A&D oinment instead of Aveeno lotion, but do not buy A&D ointment that contains lanolin.
if this doesn’t work, ask your artist for advice, he would definitely know better.

scottyg reacted to bongsau in White Tattoo Ink Cancer ? Help
i have large blocks of white on my sleeve and backpiece and highlights all over. the arm is 12 years old, the back is 5. there is also white mixed in with other coloured ink throughout. so i have it all over. i have never had a reaction to it, it was all packed in properly by good tattooers, no reactions and it definately has lasted.
i would be more worried about a family history of cancer, toxins in the environment and our food supply than i am about getting cancer from tattooing. actually i would be more worried about getting cancer from a rotary-pen tattoo machine...but i digress

scottyg reacted to SStu in Is my tat healing okay?
The center doesn't look reasonably flat. Almost like a tiny crater, which would be similar on an infection if it was red/swollen.
It can still look normal, later on. It often takes 4-6 weeks before you know what you're ending up with.

Yeah, it doesn't look 100% normal, but it also doesn't look red/hot either. If it does get red and hot then it's infected and you should see a doctor immediately. Otherwise all you can do is wait 4-6 weeks to see how it comes out.

I wouldn't go back to that tattoo "artist." Wait until it heals (4 -6 weeks) and then find someone that specializes in coverups. People think that simple tattoos are easy. They aren't; it takes a really good tattoo artist to draw a simple design that works and lay down all the lines evenly.
Good tattoos (and coverups) aren't cheap.

Honestly, it looks good! That placement is one of those spots where depending on how the arm is positioned it can look a little wonky. My guess is it looks straight when your arm is straightened out/natural. (I have a dagger on my tricep and it only looks "straight" in certain positions haha)
Let it heal fully, and if you still want the line size matching, you can always have that done.

scottyg reacted to tcgjake in The Tattoo News
Not sure if this belongs here or in the WTF In the News but has anyone seen this article about a study of people with tattoos that has been trending on LinkedIn the last couple of weeks?
https://www.hcamag.com/au/news/general/reckless-or-creative-the-great-tattoo-debate/177257
The gist of it is that they concluded people with tattoos are more likely to act in haste and not think of the consequences of their actions. I argued that just like someones race, religion, or sexual preference doesn't determine your personality, neither does presence of tattoos on your skin. And also that it could of easily been framed to show the exact opposite based on the researchers bias (that people with tattoos are more decisive and more willing to live with the consequences of their actions).
I was encouraged to see that 90% or more of the engagement was bashing the study and agreeing that having tattoos doesn't make someone a better or worse candidate for hiring but of course there were a vocal few supporting the study.
Just curious if anyone here has seen the article going around, what your thoughts on it are and if you feel like you've been passed over on a job you qualified for because of your tattoos?

scottyg reacted to bongsau in Advice Needed
oof 1 hour long break ... that would just drain whatever gas I had in the tank. long breaks like that deplete the momentum of a session. doesn't look like the tattooist was even hitting you that hard with the machine. idk the body is weird. dry heal it out and leave it alone.

Very proud of myself and the family today. Our daughter and I both donated blood for first time. My wife and sister-in-law also donated for 4 units from the family. Glad my needle phobia is subsiding enough to let me help those in need.

scottyg reacted to gotsoul415 in Color change possibility?
Hello all! Stoked to be to be a part of this awesome community after lurking around for a bit haha
I joined this forum because of all the great advice and support people have been receiving in their post. You guys rock!
Recently, I just got a dragon done with mainly black scales, with yellow/gold and orange to compliment the scales. However, I realized that I don't really like the yellow and orange and want to do a red to dark red or maroon dragon.
Is it possible to tattoo dark red or maroon over the yellow/gold and orange? How complex would it be? Any cons to this?
Another thing to mention is that not all scales are fully colored in with the yellow and orange (all the black is done already). Would the colors be slightly different for the ones I'm replacing over vs the ones that haven't been filled in yet?
Thanks!
