  1. hhmmmm....not sure I agree. It seems to me that tattooers used to have a style, which is really just a personality. in the last 15 to 20 yrs it seems to have become'' specialties''.... maybe that's just my personal copout, having always takin walkins in street shops. yeah youre probably right,my mentor ,GTC truly stunk at color, he hated it. I never really was able to ''get it'' until I was around ''colorists''.But back to the point ,...these shows ,are about diversity. Painting, etc. Maybe I should have stuck to signpainting, which Ive done since I was 12. I didnt start Tattooing till I was 24. And I still feel only, proficent.

ive been tattooing for about 15 years now and i can tell you tattooing in nyc was seemingly more diverse than it is now. i remember never being allowed to turn down a tattoo cause we you didnt work in that style. my mentor instilled in me the fact that i should always be well rounded. the only thing i was allowed to turn down was portraits and at that time i would just turn them over to him. as an artist i think it great to have a style but as a technician i know one style doesnt teach you everything there is to know about tattooing. just my two cents of cours

  2. A. Next week Shane says "I didn't come here to make friends". We know how I feel about this.

    B. For the last census, I identified as an Eskimo just to 'hack' the census and make the numbers screwy. I think some of us should try to get on the show, be model 'human canvases' for the interview, then just be total douche customers when our time comes.

Shawn to tattooer: Dude, no disrespect, but you smell like taco meat.

i gotta say it... you sir are now my idol for this genius idea

  3. A bunch of my clients have been contacting me non stop to sign up for the casting of season 2 of this shit show. And it just occurred to me that this show can definitely hurt the reputations of the few tattooers that are good on there. Think about what is being said to them by the 3 stooges. It's not a good look even if they are right on their critiques.

So not that I think I'm bad but 100,00 before taxes isn't worth it

  4. Yeah, Bili let me down with that clock stunt. he does some things very well though. Lea is probably past her shelf life too. Shane is a bad ass and seems a bit more versatile than The others. And I love his comment about having done "the fucking most precise shit you ever saw on a knee!". I dont care what anyone says, that double outline beveled star he did was better than anyones!

I am thinking they must be getting into some Japanese by now...maybe tonight. And this will be something James Vaughn will have an advantage in...

Watch the episode again. The line work on Shane's tattoo was wobbely

  5. First off, I apologise if there is already a 'hand tattoo' thread (palm tattoos & knuckles I could find), but damn it, after a really solid search I can't find shiet. SO, I figured I'd start this one, and then if there is another one then Mods by all means please move and/or delete thread. Also when I say 'hands' I'm talking the top of said hands, or fingers or chuck knuckles in here as well (the knuckle thread I could find, but hey if your feeling lazy feel free to drop them here)

^^ Apologies, but I'm honestly not sure who did the above 2. Anyone who knows feel free to chime in ;) (I have my suspicions on who did the 'koi thumb sleeve')

i did the dagger on the thumb... thanks for posting it :)

  6. some of my favorite. i have one. but a question..

i've noticed that bailey uses finer detail than most traditional tattooers. makes me wonder whether his tattoos age as gracefully as those of smith street or the like, which are bolder and simpler..

    anyone?

a finer lines does not mean less quality. all lines thicken over time, so do the math. do you really think a fat line is always the answer? the size of the tattoo and detail should determine the line weight. you should never mindlessly pick up a needle and say this is good for everything. cause quite simply its not. you can bold line a tattoo if its permitting. go look at what happens to script if its not big enough for a 14rl.

  7. i think the judges have made the correct cuts each time.

there should be a reward of some sort for doing the best tattoo each elimination round... not just the "quick fires."

as bad as this show may be, it's better than the overly dramatic shows where you only get to see 3-5 tattoos and have to listen to 40min of drama.

and oliver peck cracks me up!

lets be honest a monkey could of made those cuts. they definitely choose have the cast for the sole purpose of axing them. if you really put the worlds best ten artist on that show the judging would take weeks to figure out whos work was better. right now its a no brainer

  8. Oh yeah; when you're comparing Shane O'neil with... B-tat... somewhere someone had to look at their portfolios and say "wow. B-tat's work looks like it was done by an epileptic colorblind koala bear with one eye missing*". The only reason he was allowed on was as a sacrificial lamb.

*With one eye, the colorblind koala wouldn't have any depth perception. Thats why.. .you know... he doesn't have RAW TALENT.

I'm Shawn, and I'm not here to make any friends.

    That's my opinion.

i would agree with you guys but i feel like you also have to add the fact that they needed that arrogant retard to cause some shit cause its on tv. that guys attitude causes drama and thats what people wanna see besides the tattoos.
