Hi guys, some of you saw on instagram but I'm back from my visit with tomo and uploaded the progress pictures for my back.  It was a doozy as always but I had a great time.

Also this one. It came out too close to reference.. I love it to bits, but still it bugs me a lot that I haven't asked to change it more.
It was originally designed by Elizabeth Huxley.

    My humble addition!
It has a bit of glue (after second skin application) on it still.

    November 28 -- 2nd sleeve begins.
Once again, we returned to the studios of world traveling artist Scott Ellis. He's spent most of the last six months hopscotching Europe. I was happy to know ahead of time that he'd be back in Austin Texas for a few week -- plenty of time to start sleeve #2.
Scott suggested we try a Phoenix for this sleeve. Seemed to fit well with the dragon. Here is his notebook prior to my arriving:

As before, Scott creates the design in freehand. Took him about 3.25 hours. And as before, he was ever the perfectionist -- at one point an hour in wiping off my arm and starting again because he felt the bird's head was an inch off from where he wanted it.

As we progress, Scott goes through about four layers, increasing the detail with ever more fine brushes along the way.

Below are layer #3 and #4:

    Taken in mirror:

And at least, we ink! 2.5 hours of linework.

Unfortunately, Scott is back off to Europe... so no shading stage until April. That's okay, it is worth the wait to be worked on by a master.

Well, I got a little excited at the end and didn't get a "done" photo of the tattoo but you get the idea. 🙂
The Garver pottery...OMG, I cannot believe that I own a couple of pieces. As far as I know, this was his first sale of his pottery. The shop, Ninth Wave, is owned by Dave Shoemaker and his wife. Very cool shop and super nice folks. It was an "Adorned" weekend. Side note: Bryan ended up with most of Adorned's flash and library. Pretty rad.

I hate advertising, so don't take this that way....
I just bought OT's new dragon tattoo Dr. Martens with a muewari split on the toe. So. F***ing. Rad.
I haven't had a pair Doc Martens in like over a decade. All through high school I wanted a pair; it wasn't till grad school that I bought a pair; they died a decade ago. And soon I'll have another pair.
They also have shoes by Grez and Chris Lambert:

It's a great tattoo! Don't forget, it won't look as black in a couple of months, once it's settled properly.

    welcome to LST!
as you seem to already know in your intro, you probably won't get much support from many folks on your new "hobby." that's a dangerous word that you may not want to use around folks whose passion and life is tattooing. that said, many of the great tattooers today started in their kitchens... but those same tattooers would also tell you that the proper way to learn is to get an apprenticeship.
obviously, things are much different in this day and age and equipment is much more easily attainable. i remember back in the day with the Lucky Supply website had a link to "Tattoo Starter Kits" that would lead to a clown college website. hahahahhahahhaa. basically, what i'm saying is that no one can stop you from doing what you're gonna do, but it's up to you to make the right decisions along the way.
so anyways... what's up with some pics of your tattoos and art?

I wanted to share this sad but informative long-form piece from Jezebel called "The Tattoo Industry Is Having Its Own Wrenching, Revelatory 'Me Too' Moment."
Personally, I (a woman) have been tattooed by three different men, and all of them were nothing but professional. I cannot imagine the horror and helplessness I would feel if a tattooer decided to sexually assault me while I was being tattooed! Talk about a vulnerable position! On the other side of the coin, it is disgusting to think that some female tattooers have had to put up with sexually suggestive comments/actions/pictures/etc. from clients while attempting to provide them with professional service.
I hope no one here has a story like that.
It is mentioned in the article as "an old cliché," but I think one of the more dangerous and harmful myths out there about women with tattoos is that we are "sexually available, and that [our] tattoos are there for men's pleasure." I am ready for that twisted belief to die a cold, hard death. Forever.

I was having breakfast the other morning and this lady kept giving me the stink eye. I got tired of it so finally I just confronted her. I said, "OK mom, that's enough; I know you don't like my tattoos."  :-)

Horitomo. Two sessions, all electric (rotary and coil).  Photos do not do this justice! I will say that first four hours of outlining and shading was super hateful. Of course, I am already considering having him do my left shin. What is wrong with me? 😜

So, I recall being asked if I was going to do the other side after I posted my left side's tattoo here some months ago... yes, yes yes, fine, you win; you were right. I couldn't leave it unbalanced.
Discussed it with Horifuji after my last appointment for the left side and I asked him what he would suggest. He suggested Sojobo on the right shoulder to keep the theme consistent. The karasu tengu on the left shoulder would need to be supervised, anyway.

Great shop, great people, great experience, great artist. Links to his Instagram posts as the photos are much clearer than what I can do.
And both sides from the front...
