NYC area -- looking to get a peony

Hi,

I currently have a rose on my left upper arm, and I am interested in getting a peony tattooed on the other arm (upper right). Below, is the Instagram picture of the rose:

I was wondering if anyone knew of good artists who specialized in peonies; I envision the peony to be approximately the same size as the rose. Any tips or advice is appreciated!

Thank you!

Welcome to LST. there are tons of great artists in New York who are more than capable of putting on a beautiful peony.

The first few shops that come to mind are Invisible, Adorned, Three Kings, Kings Ave, and Saved.

Good luck!  Let us know how it goes.

Thanks! I've heard of those shops, but I only really know rg from Invisible, and he doesn't seem like the type to do small pieces, and Rose Hardy from Kings Ave (who I may consider). Is there anyone else specific in those shops who you really recommend?

you'd be surprised... although some artists only post the big pieces they're working on, they still do smaller one-shot pieces. as far as selecting an artist, it's really up to your preference.  do some research and find someone who does some peonies you like, then don't be afraid to give the shop a call and see when they're available.

if i was gonna get a peony in NYC... i'd go to Garver.

if you want to explore more options, you could also wait for the NYC convention to come around!

If you want Japanese style, then you have a plethora of options at the shops listed @Hands On! Garver, Rubendall, Beech, RG, Damien R, Matt Beckerich. Interestingly, Matt Adamson is starting full time at Kings this month and you may be able to get in with him quicker than any of the folks listed above for neo-traditional. And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Grez...

Here's my peony by Rubendall.

Good luck!

Richard Smith at Three Kings.... Fairly easy to get an appointment, very good artist.  About 2 years ago he was still very fair on pricing too.

    • Just old-school baby!!!
    • First let me say I've never seen exactly that related to tattoos. Second, I am NOT a doctor, so take any advice with a grain of salt and follow it at your own risk. I do have something like that which appears on my face from time to time. After multiple visits to the dermatologist, which didn't fix it, I finally came up with my own treatment. Whenever it flairs up, I just wipe the area down with plain rubbing alcohol three or four times a day to keep it dry. That usually works within a couple of days. Again, I'm not a doctor, but I don't think it would hurt anything for you to try that. Good Luck.
    • Hey, I have a serious problem! I got a tattoo in Manila 4 weeks ago. The artist is very well known and is one of the most renowed. 2 day after tattooing, small pimples began to form on my thight an many at the tattoo. 3 days later i had fever at night (just at night). After that, the pimpels began to spread very quickly all over the body. (back stomach etc..) I have now been to 3 doctors and everyone is at a loss. The blood work is fine and with no anomalies. Antibiotic ointment and cortisone ointment did not help. Xyzall allergy tablets did not help either. When i took cortisone tablets, 90% of the pimpels disappeared on the tattoo, but not on the other parts of the body. Now that I´am no longer taking cortisone, the pimpels on the tattoo are starting to grow back again very quick. On the other parts of the skin , the pimpels are sometimes lighter and sometimes stronger. This can be change hourly. They don´t hurt and hardy lever itch. Of course I´am afraid of a tattoo allergie. Has anyone already had this problem ? Does anyone know what that could be ? I add photos: 1) Photo directly after tattooing. 2) 2 Photos with the pimpels after a week 3) After 3 weeks while taking cortisone. 4) Photo of the body on the left.
