have you seen duck you sucker? a buddy let me borrow it after we watched once upon a time in the west.

I love this film. From what I can remember, Leone wanted it to be called Duck, You Sucker! but it has been released in Europe as A Fistful of Dynamite. I recommend the 157mins version of the film. I think its the only time Leone featured a European setting, in the Coburn IRA flashbacks?

drive was the first movie i've seen in a very long time that exceeded my expectations, and easily the best film i've seen this year. refn has been steadily ratcheting up his directing chops since the pusher trilogy - the michael mann comparisons are apt. i've had the soundtrack as heavy rotation drawing/painting music for the last week and want to see the movie again...

weird. my money's on at least 1 scene with gosling ripping out someone's heart and/or throat with his bare hands... logan's run seems strange and refn was supposedly on the shortlist for die hard 5 *shudders*. though drive was apparently stuck in studio development hell and attached to hugh jackman (?) for some time. gives me faith that he (refn) could probably make anything watchable.

Recently saw "50/50" and thought it was really good. It was funny, not hilarious, but funny and surprisingly moving.

Also saw "A Serbian Film".....if you value your humanity.....take a pass.....

i have no interest in watching some of these euro films but curiousity is killing me, what is it about?

@Scott R

I think a unicorn just died, when I thought about 'A Serbian Film' again.

It's in the same genre as Hostel, Saw, Human Centipede, etc...except it's not campy gross out....it's operates on another level.

I actually went in pretty blind, hoping for an 'Audition' like experience, for anyone familiar with that film. Mistake.

Here's a link to a review to it, it's pretty accurate (plot-wise), except for calling it 'brilliant' it's not, it's foul.

Finding out what it is about ruins it. I personally think its done very well. Terrifying yes, but well done. It does what it is supposed to which is make you sick and think about the movie for weeks on end.

@dcostello, I agree, in terms of technical execution, it was well done (directing, plotting, acting, etc.). Apologies, but SPOILER ALERT!!

The very last line of dialogue of the movie turned it into a sick joke rather than some kind of horrifying catharsis for me personally. Plus, I think that film can't help but glorify whatever it depicts (why I think Ridley Scott is full of shit for saying Black Hawk Down is an anti-war movie), all film is fundamentally entertainment. If I read this story in a novel, I would probably have a different reaction.

But you are certainly right, it's the end of the week, nearly, and I am still thinking about it.

Just back from watching Drive. the giant girl inside me loved Ryan gosling's character, the tomboy side however rejoiced at the gore. what a fucking awesome combo. loved the soundtrack :D

i've had it in mind to write in this thread! so, i saw both those movies and thought they were awesome! i was so thrilled that i really liked them! i saw a string of really horrible movies and then i stopped going to the theater for a while. Drive was amazing, it totally appealed to the danger and drama sides of my brain. the gore was awesome and i couldnt believe the amount of blood! though there was some asshole in the theater laughing through some of the really quiet dramatic parts.

then i watched 50/50 and thought it was really awesome! kinda crude in some parts. its not that bad when your with a friend but its a diff story when your with your dad! i loved how well writen the story was and i felt every emotion with every charater. i am pretty sure i caught my dad crying and that was really......interesting...... since my dad doesnt cry! lol, anyway, i've loved Joseph gordon-levitt ever since i saw him in "3rd rock from the sun" (umm not counting 500 days of summer!!) i really recommend everyone to go watch it!

go watch both of them! :)

@AlannaCA

I completely agree, both movies were definitely worth the price of admission.

I saw 50/50 with my mom, so I know what you mean about being kinda embarrassed with some of the dialogue, specifically Seth Rogen. But was still funny and was really moving near the end. I think just the idea of a child, no matter the age, getting sick, and you can't do anything about it, hits a parent pretty hard. The whole idea of it 'being out of your hands' really came through I think, especially near the end.

Looking forward to: The Ides of March (George Clooney), The Rum Diary (Johnny Depp/Hunter S. Thompson), Hugo (Scorsese), J.Edgar (Leo/Eastwood), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Fincher/Saw the Original and liked it). Honestly, after that the only movie I am interested in is Lincoln (Spielberg/Daniel Day Lewis/Christmas 2012).

@dcostello Sorry man....knows the angst I just caused :|

    • Thanks. And u just made me laugh, I guess my comment sounded conceded, and I did not mean to sound that way. I guess I'm in freak out mode because it's so on display. I don't think anything will ever meet my expectations because of where it is. So on display. My friend is actually going to my tattoo guy BECAUSE of this tattoo. Removal is not an option. I wont do that. I do have crippling anxiety due to having multiple sclerosis. I'm overly critical of this tattoo. The design is a sun with sun rays  that wraps around and up over my shoulder and a lotus below it. I don't like flowers. Just lotuses. Haha. So it's not your typical flowers down the arm tattoo. It's actually a unique design. I love yoga and zen things although from my post...I don't sound so zen. Haha. I've been going thru it now since summer started. I would say it's going in a while. I wear it out, got a compliment from someone at the gas station, I just don't look at it myself with it. It makes my stomach sink. Like I ruined myself. I'm ocd about it. I continue to get tattoos tho. I dont want to be a lunatic over it either. I always said I would never tattoo my upper arms and I did. And for the life of me, can't figure out why I did that. I was living in the moment I guess. So, if the reality of the tattoo doesn't meet my expectations,  what do u do for that? Add to it? Thank you for responding to me. I appreciate it a lot. I feel like I lost my mind over thos. I just got another tattoo on my forearm, and love it, it's smaller. Maybe that's why. I don't know. I allowed thos to be placed somewhere I never wanted ot, I approved it loved it afterwards and now....maybe cause it's so on display. I'm not used to having such big visible tattoos. Like, why cant I just be cool about it. I LOVE tattoos.
    • "I'm very fit and complimented all the time how tone my arms are" So if you were fat and out of shape it would be OK?  🤣 Tattoo Anxiety is not unusual, but it really depends on how long it goes on for. Has it been weeks, months, years? You really don't have a lot of options. Despite what laser removal centers would have you believe, you'll never get totally rid of it. Any cover up will need to be even bigger and bolder, don't let any "artist" tell you differently.  Given the tone of your post, "I'm very fit and complimented all the time how tone my arms are," "My artist is extremely talented, there is not 1 shaky line, crooked line," "The line work is out of this workd, perfectly straight," "Everyone loves it" it sounds like the reality of the tattoo doesn't meet your expectations.
    • Hello, So I'm new here and reddit is just awful people so, I wanted advice. So for some reason, I allowed a tattoo be blasted down my arm. My fault I know. I'm very fit and complimented all the time how tone my arms are. So, I got a sun over a lotus tattoo. My artist is extremely talented, there is not 1 shaky line, crooked line, and hes not cheap. Hes been tattooing me and my husband a long time. The line work is out of this workd, perfectly straight. Its a bold tattoo. All black. Everyone loves it. But for some bizzare reason, I can not look at myself in the mirror at this tattoo. Has this ever happened to anyone before? It's healed, but all I do is cover it and hide it. Has this happened to anyone? It turned out bigger and bolder than I ever imagined. From my shoulder to about 3 inches above my elbow.
