Ok, so the Feminism and Tattoos Thread got me thinking a bit about something positive: preferential treatment because of tattoos. This could also be seen as a negative by some, though I'm guessing most folks on here have experienced this as a plus. Maybe you got a deal on a lawn mower or a free cup of coffee or just had a really nice talk with someone you otherwise wouldn't have spoken to.
For example, I mentioned I most likely showed my wife-to-be some preference in serving her drinks when we first met because we got to talking about tattoos. That, and she's hot.
So, good experiences with preferential tattoo treatment??

Had one of the guys working in my local Coles (supermarket) stop what he was doing and come over to gawk at me. Some kind of foreign accent (I hate to assume, but my guess would be he was from India/Pakistan?) - "Oh, is beautiful! *stares for ages*... "oh, she's holding a knife! I thought it was just a nice girl! Wow!". He was so friendly ^.^
I've had a couple of really old ladies say things to the effect of "I like your look", or "Good on you for being different". Usually in a nice way, so I guess those are compliments?

I know a lot of the time folks complain about receiving negative comments from the non-tattooed about being tattooed. I get my share of stares, but have ever you gotten any compliments from the general population that just made you smile?
Normally on the positive side I get "I love {This/That} tattoo", or "Was that done locally?" I smile, nod and answer politely.
Not that I ever gave a shit what other people think of me, but I've gotten "You know, you just wouldn't look right without the tattoos." (or words to that effect) on three separate occasions recently. It just made me feel really good.

I had a similar thing when I had my back done. I simply HAD to keep my face flat into the cushion or, nose squashed and everything, the pain got worse. Maybe it was oxygen starvation I was after.
*Edited to say that, after re-reading what you were originally saying about left/right, my thing is actually the opposite of what you were saying. I am therefore a plonker.

joy division is probably one of my favorite all time bands..i've even got the album from when they were called warsaw as well as a bunch of bootlegs and side projects, just happened to see a hooper backpiece of the unknown pleasures album the other day whilst searching the interwebs.

Hey I love Joy Division and I was around when they first hit the scene (that doesn't qualify for being a hipster but it probobly qualifies for a hip replacement in a few years).
