ThaliaCamille reacted to Abellve in Backpiece one artist or several?
The back's some prime real estate and the largest uninterrupted/undivided piece of space so it seems counterproductive to section it off it with competing tattoos. I think it's an awesome idea to do something collaborative. Like that battle royal or Ursula's idea to have one central image kind of framed out with others. In the end, both of these are cohesive. That's key to me.
So I guess the short answer is that whether it is one artist or a collaborative effort it should be planned as such and each artist shoudl get that they're part of a process so they can make it work. It's cool to have them working on pieces of a puzzle but in my opinion it looks best when they're all working on the *same* puzzle.

ThaliaCamille reacted to Iwar in Chest/Torso Tattoos
Cool thread!
That first piece is killer, but her right hand and left arm looks a little bit strange to me. Maybe just the picture, or maybe just me... I don't know. The piece as a whole looks really bad-ass though!
Most of you have already seen my front piece, but I found a better picture of it on Marius' blog a while back, so here's to those who haven't seen it already (sorry about the insane size of the photo)

ThaliaCamille got a reaction from Bunny Switchblade in Advice for Getting Tattoos on Your Feet
Well put, I totally get what you mean. The work thing is a given: I didn't mean "go put scribbles all over your face, no one will mind." Like I said, a foot is kind of inconsequential there (in that it wont stop anyone getting work, unless it's a job that involves not wearing shoes), and I'd never thought of it as being the same as hands or neck.
I do agree that hands done and nothing else on the arms looks stupid. However for me, that's just an aesthetic preference: I'm not that bothered if someone does it.
The "go for it" was for the foot tattoo. I think it's agreed upon that it's not really one of those "earned" spots, it's a placement I really like, and I encourage people to do it if that's what they want :)

ThaliaCamille got a reaction from Hands On in Old tattoo photos
Not sure if this has been posted already.
Images are pretty small, but these look better than expected. Wish I knew how old the guy was in the last photo.

ThaliaCamille got a reaction from writerAZ in The race to get covered vs the desire to still be able to get tattooed.
For me, it's purely aesthetic. I prefer the look of a single, well-composed, continuous piece on the arm. Different strokes, is all.

no attack meant here, so please don't read this in that way. i understand everyone's point of view is different, as are everyone's experiences, but i've never understood being proud of one's heritage in that fashion. research and knowledge of it is one thing, but why be proud of anything you have no control over. i'm not proud to be ginger, have ten fingers, or to have astigmatism, so why should i be proud of whatever color my skin is? i'm proud of the things i've worked hard for in my life, the things that i had control over. things that weren't determined by a genetic happenstance. is there a double standard about it in the world? yes. but if that's going to change, aggressive acceptance of one side of said double standard probably won't be the way. mind you, at this rate, we may never reach a "we're all humans, who cares about race, creed, color, or religion... let's party!" stage, but i guess we can hope.
and actually, slight retraction... after the years in metal shops and wood shops making sculptures with bandsaws and grinders whirring away and liquid metal being poured around me frequently (and occasionally popping out of wet molds and showering me and my compatriots), i guess i am somewhat proud to still have all ten fingers.

Had a great day at Black Garden Tattoo in London with Crispy Lennox, today. First of four sessions on my half sleeve.
Got the outline done in three & a half hours. I had just about had enough by then but worth it. I love it.

I think this is more or less healed up. Bit of a rubbish photo but I'm only using the Mac. Got to get a proper pic later to forward onto Ching.
The last session (face and headpiece) has settled down and blended in with the rest. And yes, I really am this pale.
Over the rest of the year I am looking at a couple of smaller traditional pieces on my right leg, and then sometime towards the end of the year I am going to try and sleeve the rest of my right arm with Ching - got a design planned out already.

Had another session last week on my arm with Rachi. We're up to about 16 hours now, the grey is almost done, next session will be the start of some colour.
Thinking after this is done, I'll go back to one-shot pieces for a while. Waiting months for it to be "finished" due to time/money constraints is getting frustrating >.<
