I spent my Saturday afternoon with Jeff Zuck, finishing up the black in my backpiece. It was a fantastic experience as always. Jeff is one of the nicest, raddest dudes I've had the pleasure of meeting in or out of the tattoo world. With the exception of a few spots, shading the butt wasn't as bad as I had psyched myself up for. A close friend of mine got a really awesome fox/owl totem from Jen Munford at the same time (it's up on her IG @threejenbirdmun). Needless to say, my (very pregnant) fiancee spent the afternoon being real jealous.

^ This is how I always end up getting more..."but it looks 'weird' all by itself. let me get something next to it".
I also agree to send him to Frith Street. Can't go wrong with anyone there! Remember we got fellow LSTers there @Stewart Robson or @Valerie Vargas.

Just tell him to go to Frith Street, they have someone for every style. I mean you really won't know what would work best until you can look the area and existing tattoo, which is hard to do in a picture, but with the talent they have there I don't see any reason to go anywhere else.
PS tattoo looks fine, sounds like he just wants an excuse to get more tattoos.

This one isn't on me, it's on my Dad. However, I started an apprenticeship near the end of the summer, and this was the 50th tattoo i've done. Obviously, there are things that could be better with it, but I was honored he let me do it (and basically let me do whatever i wanted). Jay Cavna design...

I'm really digging the modified mala idea, since I'm not Buddhist, something like the Tibetan version that use the tiny skulls:

I was at my local tattoo shop last night getting some work done on my backpiece and got to witness an 82 year old lady accompanied by her grown children get her first and probably only tattoo. She got "DNR" in small fancy script over her heart. Turned out she has a bad ticker and wanted a Do Not Resuscitate tattoo. She took it like a champ.
    It was awesome!

peterpoose got a reaction from dharmakaya in Handmade Japanese Tattoo Book Lg Format 1973 Yakuza, Dragon Full body
This is what was written about the book when I bought it, It might help some more.
In all of my years of collecting and working with tattoo art sources, I have never seen another one. It is 15" x 10.5", 200+ pages, 2 1/2" thick.
It comprises prints of the work of many of the world's most reknowned Japanese tattoo artists, such as Horiyoshi III, Horitaka, Hori-Goro, Hori-Mono, Hori-Hide, Hori-Cho and many many more.
After the introductory pages and a layer of rice paper are sets of black heavy, heavy construction-type paper. On the right is a silver-printed index of the tattoo work with the title (such as Dragon) and the artist's name is Kanji and English. On the left side, a handmade print is hand-cut-out and affixed with adhesive to the black construction paper backing.
This entire book is handmade! On some pieces, a double-wide page of black baking paper is used which folds out to 17x15 onto which multiple images of the same tattoo are affixed. At the end, there is a 30-page black on white history written in Kanji. I believe this gives background information. The condition of the book is overall excellent. Inside the book, the spine needs a little repair but it is not necessary. After all, this is a 40-year-old book.
It came from a bookshop owned by someone related to the very famous tattoo master Cliff Raven who was a contemporary of Don Ed Hardy. There is light wear on the jacket and a few dusty areas that can be cleaned off. This is a reference work of the artists that define that style, grace and history of Japanese Tattooing. I'm sure that very very few were made and it must have been incredibly expensive since it's handmade.

I won't be as helpful as bigjoe but if you're into realism style tattoos, I believe Andy Engel is in Germany. I'm sure there are many more but that's all I can personally think of off the top of the head and he's pretty sick.
