  1. I'm not sure if this link will work but here's a link to a short instagram video of my completed sleeve. It's still healing so some bits are a little bit pink still but it gives a decent idea of what it looks like until I can get some good pictures of it. This was done in five sessions between October and June by Thomas Hooper.

God damn, that thing is pretty incredible. I love what's going on in your inner bicep and around the cap of your shoulder. I bet it looks great in motion too. Pretty jealous.

@youthcrewalex that's awesome!! I really like the leaves. Funny bone tattoos are no joke, eh...

  2. @Pacem what I would do is go to your consult, and tell him what imagery you are attracted to and the particular pieces in his portfolio that you enjoy. It really helps to have -some- sort of idea as to what the client wants, so that when you say "tattoo me" and had something along the lines of a banana tattoo in mind, you don't end up with a hedgehog.

So yeah, I'm sure if your artist is able to get a good grasp on your sense of aesthetic and tastes, he will be much better equipped to come up with something original that has the look you are searching for.

  3. I gotta tell ya, I am a safety inspector and I visit a lot of factories. Most of these guys live hand-to-mouth and only have $20 or $50 for a tattoo and they're letting their babies go hungry by spending it on ink. They know their tattoos are shit but hey: "they're almost as good as the rich guy's tattoo, right?" And if life weren't so unfair to them they could afford their junk and good tattoos! They're a sad sector but they're everywhere. They live their fantasy just like we do, but at an entirely differently level. I was showing off my forearm the other day and was presented with a "You think that's good - take a look at this Baby!!!" His arm looked like most of the scratching shown in this thread. They're just as proud of their ink as we are. Their expectations are just....different.

Nothin like poverty to put things into perspective, eh...

Reminds me of some cities in South-east Asia where people will spend their week's earnings on a starbucks just so that they can be seen with it in their hand on the weekend. Really sad stuff.

  4. I've been told by a few people (tattooers included) that painkillers don't make a difference with the pain. But if people on here are claiming to use them and they do reduce the pain, then that must be wrong.

Unless it's a psychological thing? Like a placebo effect?

I never use them because I don't ever feel like I need to, even with longer sessions.

I've only used painkillers to get tattooed on one occasion, and pretty much what I noticed is that they don't take the pain away, but rather, make you not care that it hurts. Like the painful sensation is still there and feels the same, minus that it sucks. I'm probably going to use them for my back if I can't handle it straight. I must say, I do romanticize the idea of hurting for your tattoos.

  5. Get a part time job and keep tattooing. I've had to do it for the last 3 years, it's not so bad. There are a few other really talented newbies who have had to do the same, its nothing to get down on yourself about. Great advice in this thread so far. Welcome to LST!
