My wife and I both get tattooed, we give each other money/gift certificates for tattoos as well as saving our on money. I've been there each time she was tattooed but I've been tattooed several times alone.
Being and getting tattooed is something I'm glad we share together.

I don't have an issue with passing down a craft or trade, I worked for my folks at that age but nothing too major.. That said, anyone who sits in the chair and knows a 7 year old is about to tattoo them gets what they deserve..
If there's no labor laws being broken and clients are cool with it, who gives a rats ass, lots of generational tradesman and craftsmen start this early..
I guess if you're a tattooer that had to work their ass of to get an apprenticeship it could/would be frustrating, but we're all dealt the hands we are dealt, this kids hand happens to be with a tattooer in the deck.
At the end of the day, it really doesn't affect anyone but the people who let a kid tattoo them. I find it ridiculous that we have let price and explanation of price become a taboo and dare not discuss it but we are all up in arms about someone teaching their child to tattoo..

Yes.....I know this is probably not the proper place to put this so please forgive me!
I just wanted any of the NYC people to see this and figured this was probably the most visible forum.....so again I appologize!
I am leaving the tattoo shop tonight and heading up to NJ outside the city to stay the night and then heading into Brooklyn tomorrow morning to hang out with Tony Polito and Marvin Moskowitz at Old Calcutta.....so if any of the NYC/NJ/CT people would like to stop on in then it would be awesome to meet you all!
I know it's severely short notice BUT I wanted to make sure it was 100% before I said anything!
Anyway....stop on in tomorrow if you are close by!
    Thanks,
    Bunny

Ok guys and gals, I have some cash saved up to get my elbow tattooed. I have enough space for a palm size tattoo centered dead on the point of my elbow. Everything I have already is traditional and I wanna stick with that style. Looking for some suggestions for a rad tattoo. I like the idea of a bear head, gorilla head..
I'm going ask my tattooer for input and he will have full artistic liberty but I'm not sold on any one idea. I do want something solid, unlike a spider web.

    It's such a personal decision.
And while I don't think that it's essential that you consider every year of your life following this one - you may want to question "is this something I can live with?

If there's one thing I've learned from here, it's that tattoos like this don't need a bunch of banners with script/quotes/sayings. Good solid imagery can do the same thing for minus the daily questions behind it's meaning etc.
I have a remembrance tattoo and if I were to do it over I'd drop the banners and script.

I think you should have a style or two in mind before much else.
Black & Grey, color bomb, traditional, realistic, neo-traditional, etc, also maybe a size in mind. From there it's easier to recommend artists or types of designs.

Ed Hardy and another tattooist make reference to this subject near the end of tattoo the world. If I remember correctly it's shrugged off fairly casually as flattery and something a successful artist can expect.
A pretty mature response(IMO) that they spend very little time on. Sorry I don't recall the other artist but it's at about 15-16 mins left when it's brought up.
Of course in a perfect world, such things would not exist and everyone would 'play by the rules'
But similarly to the thread where dude tattoos 'DRAKE' across that young lady's head, the FACT is, that if you don't tattoo it, someone else will. Unlike a couple decades ago, the market is full of tattooers of varying skill level, unlike before if a good artist turns you down now, there's another good artist who will take your money and make you a good tattoo.
I'm in no way advocating that tattooers should tattoo whatever comes comes through the door, I merely stating the obvious fact that for every customer willing to bend the ethics there's an artist willing to participate. The willingness to participate is is a choice the customer and tattooist have to make. I feel like, just like any other industry, ppl are going to do what they feel is 'right' but ppl are also going to do what they have to do to eat and pay the bills.
Similar situations or parallels can be drawn in any industry. Make your personal choice as a collector and artist(in our context) and stick to it.
Personally I'm pretty indifferent as to what other ppl get tattooed on their bodies and unless someone is passing your work off as their own, I lean towards looking at it as flattery, but of course I haven't been active artistically in over 15 years, I suppose It's possible I'd feel differently if I made my living making art(if any form).
