Look what I just stumbled over! FST: On the Shoulders of Giants is a documentary film, currently in production by Stewart Robson, a tattooer at Frith Street Tattoo (FST) in London. This project is expected to be completed in late 2013. Shooting started in August 2012. Stewart has interviewed his friends and colleagues, some of them world-renown in tattoo circles but all of them have worked in the cramped infamous basement shop in the heart of London’s seedy soho district, to share this portrait of one of the most interesting, vibrant and influential modern tattoo shops. FST: On the Shoulders of Giants There's a bunch on cool teasers from the different interviews on the blog too. I'm super stoked for this to come out! You gotta share stuff like this with us @Stewart Robson - - - Updated - - - This was great by the way! (Also by Stewart)

So I was poking around on Instagram and saw that Henry Lewis was posting a bunch of funny pics of people as Futurama characters, low and behold I found the app for Iphone and started making some of my own. I did my close friends, family, guys at the shop, then the thought occurred me to make some of my favorite tattooers into Futurama characters. So I will start with the attached guys from Chicago Tattoo Company. I know that some of them aren't the best, but it is an app so there are only so many choices, but thought it would be fun to see how many of these we could do. I would advise that any one of these I make is for pure fun, and I would never create something that I wouldn't be willing to show the person in question in person. Let the games begin.

The tattoo isn't even poorly done, and it doesn't look like he has any other work. Strange that you would get a tattoo of that size (which obviously required multiple sittings) and then regret it enough to laser it.

If you can make it to 1:54 you will see the greatest stage dive of all time. If not, you have heard what is quite possibly the worst music of all time leading up to that point.

Ok, so I saw this last night on tv... Has anyone seen the show "bar rescue" ? It's a show about failing bars and some industry expert comes and shows them what's wrong and saves there business. So, if you haven't guessed by the name of the thread... The sane net work that presents bar rescue is gonna bring us the cesspool they will be calling "tattoo rescue". I think this show has promise, and by promise I mean, making me laugh my ass off in disbelief and disgust. Has anyone else seen the comin attractions to this show? I really do think it's go na be awesomely terrible and it has to have all these other shows beat by a mile

Hadn't seen a thread for this?.. saw the page yesterday on facebook, can't wait to see it - https://www.facebook.com/TattooNationMovie "New Feature Documentary Film, Coming October 2012 Tattoos used to be a sign of rebellion. A middle finger salute to the rest of the world. Outlaw bikers got tattoos. Sailors on leave in Singapore got tattoos. Lifers in the joint got tattoos. Now, your mother’s got a butterfly on her ankle and your kid’s sporting a tramp stamp. What happened? How did tattoos go from the renegade, readymade, carney cartoons inked as fast as possible to the art form they’ve become today? That transformation is the subject of the new documentary film, TATTOO NATION. TATTOO NATION tells how a few incarcerated but very talented Chicano artists changed the world of ink forever. It follows three tattoo pioneers, Charlie Cartwright, Jack Rudy and Freddy Negrete, and shows how a new, fine line style using detail and shading to achieve a remarkable realism revolutionized the world of ink. In 1975, Cartwright and Rudy boldly opened the first tattoo parlor in the heart of East LA’s Chicano community. They hired a recently paroled teenager who, while in jail, unknowingly established iconic images that spoke to an entire generation of Chicanos. Freddy Negrete became the first professional Chicano artist employed by a mainstream tattoo parlor - a tattoo parlor that was embraced as a new vehicle for self-expression by the Chicano community in East Los Angeles. For the first time, these legendary figures tell their stories in a feature-length documentary film. Included are other important figures such as David Oropeza and “Chuco” Caballero, winners of many prestigious tattoo competitions. Their victories brought international recognition to the uniquely American approach known as “Black & Grey”. The world of tattoo, and the way we regard tattoo, was forever changed."

I know many of you are film lovers but there doesn't seem to be a thread about tattoos in films....I decided to start with my favourite from 'Eastern Promises' (this picture doesn't include stars on each knee that he had in the film, as far as I remember) I don't think people realize that most tattoos you see in the cinema are the work of theatrical make-up artists....I think they've made a good job on Viggo and those tattoos are also very important to the film plot as we realize that we are dealing with real Russian mafia, not some plain criminal...and that there is some tragic history behind each of those marks.... Anyone has a favourite tattoo from a film? Or maybe an opinion on how tattoos are represented by the movie industry? And why is there so much TRIBAL?? In the era of HD TV and digital cameras the excuse that some tattoos don't film well and it's best to use bold black designs is no longer enough to justify all those designs!

Anyone watching the new Ink Master, sorry if there was a previous thread I couldn't find it. They're tattooing pigs right now and the work is looking pretty good, I'm just not a fan of them having a time limit.

I have been recently noticed something, that on TV tattoos seem to be everywhere. This might also due to the fact I never had cable TV for the last 5-6 years but it is kinda crazy to me. Aside from the obvious "Inks" shows and Inkmasters, there are a ton of moderate to heavily tattooed people on TV as of late. This is especially prevelant on the channels owned by Discovery Communications (TLC, etc). I just find it strange that a few years ago only the bad guys in movies had tattoos, now they have non-celebrity TV show hosts that have some decent coverage (even pentagram hand tattoos and head tattoos). And yea TLC sucks with their tattoo school (which seems to be cancelled, thank god!), but just interesting all the same.

Just curious about the general LST'ers think about this....Top Chef/Project Runway for tattooers? Not too sure what my opinion is yet..peep the trailer on Spike's website..First thing that I thought was odd was the fact that several of the "contestants" already are well " established", and own shops ,and put out books and CD-ROMS and all that jazz..

Thoughts? Official Ink Master Series Trailer | Free Video Clips | SPIKE It´s not going to be the new Tattoo Age or Gipsy Gentleman, that´s for sure. Something tells me that the focus is going to be more on scripted drama rather than the tattoos, at least judging from the trailer. Oliver Peck is in it though :)

Is there another thread on the Walking Dead series, and I'm just missing it? Because this show is the best show on TV right now. Clay sucks, but he won't eat your brains. Is anyone else making preparations for a Zombie Apocalypse? (besides Jeff Cribb, I mean.)

Someone just posted this on Facebook and I figured some of y'all might enjoy it. Did anyone catch the season finale of Breaking Bad? It is by far the best show on TV and the close-out of the season was awesome. If you haven't seen it at all, the first 3 seasons are on NETFLIX. Highly recommend checking it out it will not disappoint.

Hello, I found this pretty cool stop motion video in three parts on youtube for a half sleeve 'nerd' tattoo described as follows: *I didn't want to just do a one-off thread, so thought to just title it 'Tattoos on Video' so other people might want to post similar videos, if they like. I am not sure, but I do not think it has any real 'how-to' applications to it. If so, apologies and please feel free to remove.

Via Cris Cleen. Extra points for the Dragon Mike/ Tiger John reference, placing him in Houston at some point Really more of a park tattoo than a prison tattoo though.

This movie has been coming up in many conversations lately (deep thoughts, I know) and as this is one of my all time faves, I love hearing peoples favorite lines from this movie. I find that the line "Our pets heads are falling off!" is a fitting response to many questions. Does anyone else find themselves quoting this movie often?

Hello, I'm probably going to get in trouble for starting three threads in one day on LST, but thinks this will be the one that I will be posting continuously on for quite a while. My major pet peeve on the internet is finding great performances, nearly all musical ones, that were filmed live. I love impromptu moments, unpolished, unedited (mostly) LIVE performances where great crafts people (singers, musicians, etc.) create something truly startling. The only way I know that I am seeing such a performance is that it fills me up with joy. Anyhow, hopes other people know of similar performances that they would want to share. To Start, B.B. King performing LIVE in SING-SING Prison, 1972

Hello, One of the first series of videos I saw, in fact, the series of videos that lead me here were posted by Jeff Gogue from his guest spot at Yellow Blaze in Yokohama a while back. Has some cool tattoos (skulls, Venetian Mask, etc.) by Jeff, a close look at some of Shige's clients full body tattoos, specifically on Tomo (apprentice) and Juichimen Kannon (client), and start of Jeff Gogue's backpiece by Shige. I personally was taken aback at seeing those two tattoos 'LIVE' rather the just photographed, but I'm a newbie. Also, a cool sense of being in Japan: dining out, visiting gardens/temples, fancy toilets, etc. Did a search and didn't see that anyone had posted them, so thought I would, in case anyone missed them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhamIk9fOtM&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ0oIVXBpSI&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvtwAaDKeHk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUKT5gPZZ1s&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCtevZx6yJ4&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63RrtkFQvTQ&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyIAy_xivbU&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euyFbd1yssU *Please let me know if it's not cool to post these as embeds, or better to have them posted as links, will make corrections, if needed.
