Portland and Seattle via Amtrak

A few weeks ago I jumped on Amtrak's Coast Stralight to travel through the Northwest. I got on at Emeryville, CA for the first part of my trek to Portland, OR. As it was around ten at night and I wasn't due in Portland until about threePM the next day I got comfy in my chair. I must say the chairs/seats you pay for on overnight trips are damn comfy like those of flying first class. The seats recline with a foot pad and foot post as well as electronic sockets at every seat and table tray. They

My precious.

Here are a few of "my precious" I have at the shop. The Jensen, I have had my entire career. I felt like the tattoo gods had blessed me on my journey with that one, when it came to me. The Mickey B. Aaron had brought back from Italy for Mike and I. I still use it daily. The Juanito...yes, #8. First batch. I still use that machine, since the Avalon daze. Ill try to remember to take a photo of "my precious" I have at home. Cheers, M

Machine insanity.

So keeping with the Aaron cain, I have a lot of them I use to bail him out of every bad financial decision he made. Usually he would go on some toy shopping spree right before rent was due. This machine was from when he first started to build machines for sale. i could have gotten a lower number but thought the 13th one would be cool and somebody had dibs on number 7. i have the number 14 of the iron telephone dial from Mickey sharpz and for a moment i thought i would collect machines by num

Layout Options

For those of you who have full scale back pieces; shoulders to lower back, shoulders to glutes, shoulders to the back of the thighs, would you recommend to someone. What layout made you want to get one of the three options? I find that it would make more sense to go to shoulder to glutes (ass) if you were getting something big like a dragon. Long story short, I'm about 5"10 and can't decide in the future if my back piece would be better from my back down to my thighs or stop at my glutes. I am

Tattoos are FOREVER...or are they?

It used to be that when you got a tattoo, that was it. You had it for life. Period. I have heard of extreme cases of it being burned or cut off, but I always thought that only happened if you were in a gang and they no longer wanted you to wear their tattoo. As technology advances so does the tattoo removal industry. I still see ex-gang members trying to turn their life around and willingly remove their tattoos. Recently, however I have seen a new crop of people getting their tattoos removed. Yo

A slow return

I’m not entirely sure what this post is about. But a few months back, there was some sort of shift in my relationship with tattoos. It sounds a little sentimental but I had never given much thought to my place in a tattoo timeline, or history –– or online community. I just knew I kept waking up with more tattoos, and had some kind of frantic addiction that most of my other friends never pretended to understand. So fresh off a great experience of getting a new tattoo from a really nice and hi

Tim Hendricks Interview Video

Tim Hendricks is a world renowned bad ass. He lives a life most of us could only dream of having, and somehow pulls it off. From pro skateboarder, to surfer, to incredible tattooer, to TV notoriety, he has encompassed all things cool in his life. Tim and I have a good friend in common who's responsible for our introduction, Demian Cane. Demian has a body suit that I believe Tim has redone three times or something absurd like that, Tim finally had to cut him off. His tattoos are like that, they

first shader

So this is one of two of my first shaders. I am not sure which one is the actual first one because I never marked them but they are from the same order one was millers and one was mine then he sold me the other later on. i rebuilt this machine 10 times over the years. i use this one a lot now a days. it is primarily my big mag machine it really pushes and quick. don't dig it with 7 mags sort of turns it all to shag carpet " not really what I'm going for" I had a third frame the in my great

Ross Nagle (Allstar Ink in Limerick, Ireland) and The Three Questions

For this round of The Three Questions I decided to turn to Ross Nagle whose tattoos I was introduced to via this forum when we started it. I was quickly impressed and it has turned into some email dialogues with him who I hope to meet and get tattooed by when we are in the same city hopefully sooner than later. Ross joined LST early in our launch and has been active since which is even more awesome because we get to see his new tattoos and hear from him often. Beyond his activity on the tattoo

avarian vetrinarian

so, i rescued another bird today at work (the second bird rescue made while at work, and the third bird rescue over the last year and a half), and now my co-workers are calling me the bird whisper. i suppose that's fitting given my name. so, one co-worker suggested i become an avarian veterinarian. maybe that's what i should become, and the bird is a sign of this?

first one fucker

I don't know how many of you know me or my history of growing up in tattooing so i will start in the beginning with my first machine. I started tattooing in late 1989 with Aaron Cane he was responsible for me getting my fist job in tattooing. We had gone to school with each other since the 6th grade and he had done my first tattoo on his couch when i was 14?. my second when i was 16. My first job tattooing was working for a guy named miller cotton who didn't know much in the way of art but k

i hate my job.

taking on Scott's advice, i thought i'd post a blog on a site that none of my co-workers will come across, and that is something i need to get off my chest: i hate my job. there, i said it. i hate my job. i don't hate my co-workers, i don't hate working in a museum, i don't even hate our museum, despite it's ever growing list of disfunctions. i just hate my job. i absolutely hate it. i hate that i am constantly stressed out while i am at work. i hate that i have to deal with others who do

So i am going to start doing a couple of things that I want to invite people to do as well. First I am going to start writing post about when I travel, having two kids and two jobs, tattoos, and machines I don't travel much but when I do it always involves working. Conventions, guest spots , etc., so I am going to write mini articles to sort promote and celebrate the good times we get to have in this business. Secondly I am going to start to post pictures of my machine collection. I have so
