Frith Street Tattoo, August 2011

I shot this video over the course of a few weeks in August 2011. I wanted to show what it's like at Frith Street Tattoo. We try to be a no-nonsense tattoo shop and just do the best tattoos we can. I didn't intend to make an introduction to the shop, or an introduction to tattoo shops n general, which is why there is no 'talking head' shots, interviews, sections about the staff, location, history or a voice over. This for people who know of us or our work. While there is a social side to our

Been trying to put a nice blog entry together...

Ended up with a majorly long post... So, after a few readings, I have like 4 or five posts to do... So for now, a quick check in with all the last sparrows... We took off from Jax Beach, FL to go to the Masters of Tattooing Show in Inglewood/LA that Permanent Mark produced along with Charlie Roberts... Well... We ended up: Making it to the Masters, (post soon about that show itself), then trying to hang out and get some work and other business related stuff tied up and as per usual, Hollywood

Just an observation

It s wonderfull to know unselfish people. I am so tired of phoney, spiritual types who are secretly bitter, fearful, unable to truly live their spiritual teachings in any other than LIP service. I am constantly pushing buttons of those types, hypocrites. All the, alters, bells and incense but no true center. Just their egos! Acting as though, they had control of the universe, could direct it for good or evil intent! Eventually leads to all sorts of tumor growth but never growth into their true pa

moved by request-

The following is what I wrote at the end of a thread that will be removed. By request, I've taken this part out and moved it here. If you have no idea what it's in reference to, lucky you. Don't worry about it. Hey everyone, Sorry I haven't been on here so much, I've been super busy painting and getting ready for an art show for the shop. Thank god we're now officially broken up with BumbleNuts. To clear up the "private section" issue, I just want to say that it has never been my intention

here's to new beginnings!

in less than a month my life is basically starting over. i will be starting a brand-new job, where i will be looking after 12 litters of neo-natal (under 8 weeks old) kittens. 10 days after my first day of work, i will also begin my first semester of school in 3 years, hopefully on my way to earn a second bachelor's degree, this time in conservation biology. i stopped on the path i was on, took a moment to look around, realized that i didn't like where i was headed, and decided to go off of

Ross AKA Hogg and The Three Questions

For this round of The Three Questions I decided to pull from some of the wealth of stories and tattoos of one of LST's first LSTers Hogg/Ross. Though we both live in the Bay Area I never got to meet Ross until at the Blackheart Pre-party for last years State of Grace Tattoo Convention and must say he's one nice guy. He has become a regular on the site and we are very grateful for him being a part of this project. Through the site I have gotten to know him and the riches that he brings to tatto

My response to Tattoo Schools, and why there BS

The question posed to me in response to my previous post. "Why is the master teaching an apprentice relationship the only valid way of passing knowledge in this particular craft? Could a school be crafted that would offer a valid way to pass along tattoo knowledge?" Hey Jaycel, I understand what you mean, and yes trade schools do work when your talking about teaching many individuals the proper way to perform there trade. Electricians, Plumbers, bricklayers, Hell even cooks, should all be

My post on tattoo schools.

Hey all, IM posting this here, as I posted on my websites blog last week after viewing the nightmare which was Tattoo School, on TLC. In this blog I point out 1 or 2 ways I think we can deal with the individual Tattoo schools out there (in our industry). To me the Networks are just doing what they do, and not responsible for this crap. Hell if we got up in arms for every time the Media negligently aired BS, there would be nothing left for people to watch. 7.15.2011 Last night was a bummer. A

Positive action that we can take regarding TLC and the Tattoo Schools

Hey everybody, there is some light at the end of this Tattoo School tunnel, and it came in my mailbox today. I recieved a letter from a friend whom I know to be a credible and reliable source on the subject. Here are his suggestions on how we can direct our collective energy in a positive direction to help clean up this mess. Thanks, Scott "Ok, here is the breakdown of the atrocious new show Tattoo School. The show as we all know is aired on TLC, TLC is part of the Discovery Channel Incorpor

Los Angeles (July 2011)

Last week I made a trip to helLA for some work with hopes of potential more work/contracts and managed to get in a day and a half before to hang with my homie Demian. The purpose of arriving early was to hang with him as it has been too long plus he is one of those guys who is an amazing person as well as rich in history specifically LA tattoo history. His collection of tattoos and tattoo art makes my mouth drop and I am always impressed. Tattoo history of Los Angeles and tattooers are always a

Grez Interview pt. 1

All right LSTers, here's an older interview I did with the very talented Grez from King's Avenue from last year. The magazine in which it appeared only published a very abbreviated version and, after talking with Lochlan and getting permission from Grez to post it, I thought this would be a good place to share the full version. Since it is somewhat dated and a portion of it already appeared, most magazines wouldn't be interested. And since I've shelved the book project for now, was just lookin

Grez Interview from 2010, pt. 3

What’s your role in that? It’s tough to say that I have a role. I feel my role as a tattooer is just to build on history and try to bring it the next step further. I feel like that’s everyone’s responsibility. To not just keep doing the same thing, but building off of tradition and taking it to new levels. And new work always comes by taking risks. A lot of people in the early 90’s, when I was buying magazines in high school, everything was crazy and twisted and chrome. When you look at the w

Grez Interview from 2010, pt. 2

And here's part two. Looks like it'll be split into three, actually. ALSO, don't forget to check out the new(ish) King's Ave blog! Without further ado... Is there any style you lean towards, then? It’s tough because I feel like there are three different styles I really enjoy doing. And there are all different kinds of images. But I’d say ultimately, I like to tattoo good ideas. There’s a guy that came in who I am doing a Japanese monster sleeve on and it’s pretty heavy. It looks like it’s go
