Honeymoon Trip and Tattoos

Recommended Posts

So I am getting married in July of this year to the most amazing woman. We are two peas in a pod. We both love tattoos and although I have far more, it is something we enjoy together. This August we are planning to take our honeymoon on a road trip through a large swath of the USA. (We are Canadians living in Toronto) We will travel to Nashville, then to Savannah, GA. After that we go to Orlando, New Orleans, San Antonio, Sante Fe, back through Colorado, Kansas, St. Louis, Chicago, then back to Toronto. I was thinking it would be fun to pick up a tattoo or two along the way. Nothing large, given that we will be in a car much of the time and a lot of healing and driving might not be a great idea. I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts about getting tattoos in some of these places? I know where'd I'd go in Chicago, but what about New Orleans or New Mexico? A tattoo from Texas would be cool too, and I'd be passing through San Antonio...

Denver, CO: Dedication Tattoo - Denver, CO - I will vouch for Marie Sena being an awesome tattooer and an awesome person, the other tattooers there seem great too

Las Cruces, NM: "We don't do piercings." - Tick who tattoos there very occasionally posts here, and she was doing some awesome stuff at the Montreal convention last year so check her out.

i wanna see newly-wed photos this summer then! get a tattoo in every city you stop in!

I'd live to get a tattoo in each stop but I think Erin might not be on board with that. ;)

Another dude who I've been digging lately though I've only seen his tattoos on IG is Ishmael Johnson in Fort Collins, CO. He's coming to the Montreal convention and I've been thinking of getting tattooed by him because he's doing some really cool stuff:

Getting married next summer most likely, too! Congrats! I wanted to do a road trip honeymoon across the US, but the other half isn't as keen. Let us know how it goes! And obviously what tattoos you both get!

First off congrats. Second I think that is a wonderful idea. Any idea on what you would get? Will you and your wife get a matching tattoo to help you remember your special honeymoon? I love this idea of getting one or more tattoos on a honeymoon.

    • I'd still call your doctor and ask their opinion.  I'm betting that they might advise against it, you know docs and liability.  But, if I were in the same position, really wanted it and was in good health, I'd probably go ahead and do it. My wife's an RN and I just asked her.  She said that she wouldn't think it would be a problem as long as you keep any appendectomy incision bandaged and clean your tattoo as recommended.
    • Hey everyone, I just had a laparoscopic appendectomy 8 days ago. Everything went well. There were no complications. Normally I wouldn't consider getting tattooed for awhile due to possible immune system problems. The thing is, one of my favorite artists is in town next weekend. He moved from Mass to Brooklyn and if I don't go see him next week I may have to wait a year or so before he's around again. I just want to get a small piece of Dan Higgs flash on my arm nowhere near the site of the surgery. Do you guys think this would be ok or am I putting myself in danger? I know people are going to say "ask your doctor" but I'd like the advice of people who actually have and know about tattoos. Thanks in advance.
    • Hey @Decay You have a lovely new tattoo.  Tattooing isn't science, it's art and you can't set a clock by how long a tattoo will take. Your artist, who I assume you trust to tattoo you, will always give you a best guess. It may take longer; it may take less time.   You do realize how much goes into tattooing, right? Your artist has to come up with a design, a piece of art, from whatever concept you have in your head and translates that into a tattoo on your skin. There's design, drawing, and setup among other things that happen way before the needles hit your skin. If you feel like you are being ripped off over what you think is 30 minutes, you need to think long and hard if tattooing is for you. Enjoy the ride! Let go a little and you will have a better experience.  I have never seen a menu of prices and that concept will not serve you well on your tattoo journey. Where do you live where you haggle over everything? And I really hope that you tipped your artist.
