  1. The purpose of the film or bandage is to keep dirt/germs out of your fresh wound. When you're home it's a controlled area and you can remove it and start cleaning it.

My artist told me to leave the wrap on overnight when he did the shading and color on my half sleeve. It got all twisted up during the night and I removed it. When I got my inner forearm tattooed, my artist said he never wraps them... I asked for plastic wrap till I got home and he did. I've lived thru both situations.

😞He said he should have used a different needle setup,

He knows that now, but not when he did it? That be the big red flag for me not to go back to him. What's he not going to know this time that he'll realize later?

  3. Pricing is very subjective. It depends a lot on your area, the coverage, the design, artist's experience and reputation, their past experience with you, their mood, etc., etc. I wouldn't have a problem asking them (very nicely and non-judgementally) to explain the price and say I thought it would be less. A decent artist shouldn't have a problem explaining that to the person paying for their service.

At the end of the day, you have 2 choices. Pay their price or go to someone else. You're not shopping for a can of soup.

@jacobyoung I just went swimming after getting my tattoo done yesterday. I was told not to, but I figured, why not? I'm hoping it doesn't affect the new tat, but what did you do to keep your tattoo from getting infected? The only way I know is to clean it with soap and water and to pat it dry, and if its dried out, I put a little lotion on it. But I'd like to know what you do after you swim with a new tattoo.

Do you realize the person that you're replying to posted that in 2014? They also haven't visited the forum since then.

Every aftercare I've ever read or heard says not to swim for a certain length of time after being tattooed. If you can't follow the instructions given why bother getting it?

There will likely be improvements in inks that make them less likely to migrate or fade.

That's what got me thinking about the whole subject. Seems like there could be a way to do that... as long as it didn't make ink a thousand dollars a bottle.

  6. When most things become popular there always seems to be advancements in the technology. Companies see the opportunities and put money into R&D, even if it's not something they've done before.

It seems to me that tattooing is at what's probably the crest of its popularity and as such should be seeing some advancements. Is anyone doing this? Is there any improvements that can actually be made?

I realize it an age old tech, but just about everything can be improved.

people who see it in person are telling me I should go back to the shop to get it fixed.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind.

Honestly, if you don't point it out, 95% of people would never notice it.

  8. The problem with a "lines only" tattoo is that's all your eye has to focus on so you're more likely to notice flaws.  If there was shading or color you'd be much less likely to notice shaky lines.  If you look closely at some outstanding black and gray or color tattoos by really good artists, you'll probably see some shaky lines.  They're just a much smaller part of the whole piece.
