It’s an awkward one, with regards career. I’m in the building trade so it’s not really a problem. However, if I go and price a job, I will try to cover them up at first, if the customer is older. A lot of people in their 50’s and 60’s still find tattoos “unattractive”! We all judge people on how we look and I’m aware that some people don’t like tattoos. That’s cool. I respect that. For that reason, visible tattoos are a big deal in my opinion. Get them if you are confident that your life can continue as if you didn’t have them..
Subject matter and style makes a difference too. An artist in London (Cassandra Frances) has “tattoos even your mother will love” in her Instagram bio! It’s true, her tattoos are pretty and inoffensive. Whereas An animal with a dagger through its head May be less appropriate!! Know what I mean?!

    unless this is a joke,
personally for me, a guy doing tattoos out of an RV would be a red flag.
Especially for a first tattoo,I would do some more research of artists that you would like to get work from.
I would look at established busy shops.

It's a nice tattoo, also it will fade over time. I think trying to cover it to make it less bold is not going to give you the results you want. Give it a year or two and if you still feel uncomfortable with it maybe you could look into laser?

You've already been given several options for advice. Did you try Benadryl as was suggested? If, as your artist suggested, it might be heat related did you try anything that would help eliminate a heat rash? In the end, though, the best course of action is to see your physician at this point and definitively determine what is causing the bumps.

Honestly, I'd get the advice of a doctor and your artist. I have developed hives from various things recently and at first thought that might be what you were having. But if they've been there 3 weeks, then I wouldn't expect that to be what you are dealing with.

Not familiar with how that looks, but it would be unusual for there to be an ink reaction only after 5 months.

There really isn't any "usual" on matters like this. If I were you I'd get that last palm sized one done. See if that artist has any ideas that strike your fancy on filler(s). Otherwise just keep checking with others for their ideas until you hear one you like. Maybe even more dots by Tomas?

I wouldn't base getting or not getting a tattoo on what might happen. Unless you double the size of your forearm, it will most likely still look good. If you plan on going all "he-man master of the universe," you might want to wait, otherwise, get in there an get that tattoo.

I love this thread! At present, I intend to keep my tattoos at/below my knees (famous last words, I know), with loose aspirations for American traditional-ish patchwork "sleeves". I want to take my time filling them up though, and really only pursue work from artists I love for pieces that resonate with me, rather than rushing to get covered for the sake of getting covered. Also, I promised my husband I'd take it slow, partly for the sake of our bank account, and partly because he's worried I'm going to "get all tatted up like the guys from Lucero".

Got to be a reckless kid one more time and got tattooed by Valerie again, this time in London. They're peeling and unsightly now, but here they are in their fresh glory:

Only got a couple little guys since this thread started. Tackle my right thigh or save up for my move...? I CAN DO BOTH, RIGHT?!
I'll add this little moon mamma I picked up from Antonio Roque at Black Label in Frederick, MD. Really liked that shop and had a great experience with Antonio.. can't wait to go back when I'm visiting my folks who live about 15 minutes away. Also, not only do I love Antonio's tattoos, his paintings are so CLEAN. Lots of nice work hanging up there..

Getting my first leg tattoo at the convention in London in a few weeks. Can't decide if I am gonna fill my legs with random palm-sized tattoos (love that look!) or if I should aim for planning it out a bit.

Thank you! Yeah I really like color tattoos, I'm not particular in that way. But I think when you start to get many not too large tattoos and they're all in different color schemes you end up looking like a explosion in a paint factory. Not that there is anything wrong with that, some people pull it off , but being of my particular kind I would find it impossible to dress and end up only dressing in black clothes. Also I would probably be like "man.. I really wish this blue was a little bit more teal" after like 10 years. I don't know, I can only speculate on what it would be like. Black and gray on skin looks so nice. To each it's own I guess.
