Chris Ademek had a cancellation and I was able to get in with him just 2 weeks after emailing him which I was super stoked on. Unfortunately this snow storm rolled in and I had a 75 mile drive home so we didn’t get to finish the piece. It’s a portrait of my grandmothers wedding photo from the 50s. She passed away last year and oddly enough the cancellation happened to be her birthday. I’ll wait to post a progress pic when my skin isn’t so angry. But here is the reference

Yes, I'll use red again. My experience didn't scare me off at all. And to date, my skin is doing well with it.

Yeah, to my understanding, most places won't tolerate it. At least reputable places.
Personally, I couldn't imagine getting work done while intoxicated. It's too risky.

Just thought I’d share some progress on my turkey vulture back piece. Around 12 hours in and it’s coming together! This piece has really tested me mentally and physically. I just got out of Covid quarantine and my body was not at all prepared to handle a tattoo. This last 4.5 hour session was brutal. I feel like such a little baby but this back piece has been deeply painful! I love being tattooed but getting them... do not enjoy

I can only speak from my personal and limited experience. My latest tattoo had red, but only very little (about the size of a jelly bean). It didn't take to my skin as well as the other colors...it faded and looked leathery (though I would describe mine as more murky or greyed out). Very peculiar, but it's nothing that couldn't be fixed with another quick session. Like ezh said, red ink can be more touchy than other colors, but it depends on the person's skin. Since it's only been two weeks, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Give yourself another 2 - 4 weeks to heal, at which point you'll be in a better position to make a fair assessment. Touch ups are usually free and I'm sure if your artist is good at his job he/she will do everything they can to make it look awesome -- after all, they have a reputation to uphold. 😉

I think your chest piece looks beautiful. I'm sure it'll blend well with the old art. Love the colors.

I'm sure it's fine. You just need to wait for it to heal completely (4-6 weeks), and then make your assessment. And besides, most artists do touch ups free of charge. It'll work out in the end. Just be patient.

I know it's just part of being a cranky old man, but I think you should earn your tattoos.  I once had to pay for a session I couldn't finish, but I wouldn't use the numbing cream. It's worth it to me.

Looks to be a good idea, to me. The artist looks to be quite capable and has done some pretty damn good portraits, too.

Our pleasure. Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As long as you want to do something and will like the finished product, that's all that should matter. Good luck.

This is a pretty good video to watch. I think she does a nice job of explaining placement.
I think the image would work well as lower or upper arm. Just make sure he isn't upside down. Lol Really, though, it's all subjective. Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that.

Queen Rocks got a reaction from DavidG in Do sleeve tattoos need to be planned out?
I think it's whatever you're most comfortable with. Me personally, I only have a half sleeve. At the time, I never considered getting my whole arm done. But it's something I strongly consider now. I'd probably just go back to my artist when I'm ready and ask if he could work on something with me. I don't think it's that big of a deal. In hindsight, yeah, I guess I would have preferred planning it all out, but it's not the end of the world. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks everyone for the opinion. Once this is done I'm looking to get a full back piecie, colour archangel to contrast /balance all that. Hopefully this is a good idea.

It looks like skin that's about to peel. But like JAC1961 said, it's hard to tell from one pic. Regardless of what it is, just be patient and let it heal. Reassess in a few weeks and talk to your artist if it needs a touch up.
