Art Tattoo Montreal 2013

Recommended Posts

It's September 6-8 this year at the Gare Windsor, so it's maybe a bit early to make a post about it, but they have been announcing some of the artists who will be attending and it's a really solid lineup as usual. Who is planning on going? Are you planning on getting tattooed, and if so, who by? Does anybody want to meet up at some point that weekend?

I am planning on getting tattooed but haven't tried booking with anybody yet. It's probably still too early and I wouldn't talk about it on here anyway until I have an appointment set up. I know there are a few of us on here who have gotten some really great tattoos at this convention and hopefully this year's edition will bring more great tattoos.

The website for the convention is here: Art Tatoo Show Montreal

And they have an instagram this year with links to the IGs of the attending tattooers, as well as some photos from past conventions: arttattoomontreal

Yeah, I am thinking about Mike Wilson. Also wondering if it's time that I give tebori a try.

I am also stoked because I have this new job which means that no more night shifts and no more getting tattooed on two hours sleep because that SUCKED.

I think I'm going to go to the convention in Toronto this summer. It wil be my first. If I like it I might very well postpone my August trip to Montreal until September and take in that con as well. (Also, I can stock up on my beloved mead from the SAQ!)

My guess is around mid-later summer but it doesn't hurt to email and ask

I just emailed kings avenue to ask about mike's availability that weekend... but I think I'll wait until I start seeing announcements on each artist's instagram before I email any others.

I will always do this show. I cant wait. I have a blast.

The Higgs mash-up that you recently posted on Instagram was something else. I have not stared at tattoo that hard in a long time. Keep it up. That is as good as it gets.

This is coming up in a little over two weeks, so who is going and is interested in an LST meetup? I'm going to suggest that we meet up for drinks at Le Cheval Blanc at around 9pm on Saturday. It's at 809 rue Ontario Est, a couple of blocks away from the Berri metro station, which is itself four stops away from the convention. It's a brewpub with solid beer, a nice selection of imported bottles, and great music and atmosphere. They have a limited food menu too, but if anybody is interested in getting something to eat beforehand we can do that too. Who is up for meeting?

Me and @Pugilist will be at the convention both Friday and Saturday so if you see us (you can recognise us by our tattoos because I am sure I won't be the only hairy guy most likely wearing a black t-shirt there) say hello!

Me and my wife are in. I got my ticket in the mail the other day and just booked a tattoo for Friday night. The metro is pretty easy to navigate, for those who've never used it before and if you are new to the city you owe it to yourself to see a bit more of it than just the convention. It's an amazing place. If I can get the time off work I'll probably head down a day or two early just to do some sightseeing. Looking forward to the whole thing!

Nice one! I'm getting zapped by him on Saturday. Not to speak for @Pugilist but she's getting tattooed by Mike Rubendall.

A friend of ours is getting his first tattoo at the convention on Saturday, I'm trying to get him to come out after he's done. He will have earned a celebratory drink! It's going to be cool meeting you and your wife!

    • I'd still call your doctor and ask their opinion.  I'm betting that they might advise against it, you know docs and liability.  But, if I were in the same position, really wanted it and was in good health, I'd probably go ahead and do it. My wife's an RN and I just asked her.  She said that she wouldn't think it would be a problem as long as you keep any appendectomy incision bandaged and clean your tattoo as recommended.
    • Hey everyone, I just had a laparoscopic appendectomy 8 days ago. Everything went well. There were no complications. Normally I wouldn't consider getting tattooed for awhile due to possible immune system problems. The thing is, one of my favorite artists is in town next weekend. He moved from Mass to Brooklyn and if I don't go see him next week I may have to wait a year or so before he's around again. I just want to get a small piece of Dan Higgs flash on my arm nowhere near the site of the surgery. Do you guys think this would be ok or am I putting myself in danger? I know people are going to say "ask your doctor" but I'd like the advice of people who actually have and know about tattoos. Thanks in advance.
    • Hey @Decay You have a lovely new tattoo.  Tattooing isn't science, it's art and you can't set a clock by how long a tattoo will take. Your artist, who I assume you trust to tattoo you, will always give you a best guess. It may take longer; it may take less time.   You do realize how much goes into tattooing, right? Your artist has to come up with a design, a piece of art, from whatever concept you have in your head and translates that into a tattoo on your skin. There's design, drawing, and setup among other things that happen way before the needles hit your skin. If you feel like you are being ripped off over what you think is 30 minutes, you need to think long and hard if tattooing is for you. Enjoy the ride! Let go a little and you will have a better experience.  I have never seen a menu of prices and that concept will not serve you well on your tattoo journey. Where do you live where you haggle over everything? And I really hope that you tipped your artist.
