So far I've only travelled to London twice to get tattooed (the most recent trip was back and forth in less than 36 hours), but now my trip to SF is less than three months away and I'm so fucking stoked it's ridiculous. It will be expensive as hell, and all my money besides rent, bills and food has gone towards this trip, but I can't think of anything I'd like to do more. Exploring a new city in a foreign country, getting tattooed by incredible artists, meeting new people, thinking about your collegues working their asses of back home while drinking an ice cold beer in the sun... I for one can't think of a better way to spend my vacation, and I will most likely try to do something similar next year.

i'll be at rock of ages in austin soon, and namebrand in ann arbor soon too! i usually "announce" my guest spots about a month beforehand, then again a week before, and again once i'm at the shop.

Is there a way that we can make a forum category, or sub-category, maybe even a sticky of guest spot news ? I have missed out on some opportunities to get tattooed when a lot of good artist travel to Austin, Tx. I usually get to see their facebook that says going to "TX in one week", and it really sucks not to know of their arrival earlier in time (at least a month). I was wondering how some of you tattooers prep for guest spots, is it on the spur moment thing? Or is it something you plan ? And how can the news spread faster?

thank you guys. I own just about every "how yo draw the head" book there is and im always looking for more . i'm always studying them and real faces when i can trying to grasp and understand as best i can. so thanks for letting me feel like it's paying off even a little bit.

i was 15 one of my buddies was going to get tattooed by dragon mike in houston texas and my other friend was getting tattooed by richard stell at scorpion studios which was across the street at the time around '91/'92 and i tagged along all i really remember is how terrified i was of richard after he tossed me out for drawing in the shop and mimicking the designs on the wall. i was 15 and didnt realize what a faux pah that was. also richard was a much bigger and orney looking dude then than now if you can imagine.i still came back and hung out almost daily with my buddies but i hung in the back scared of richard. that impression stuck with me so even as a grown man in my 30's id see richard at conventions and was afraid to approach him til the san jose convention 3 years ago where i walked up and introduced my self and he remebered i believe because the first thing he said after i told him my name and that used to hang out in his shop was "oh yeah, didnt i throw you the F%@$ out?" then i got tattooed by him and he was the nicest guy and very quick witted so then i felt pretty silly for being afraid of him for all those years. ha

It seems like all we talk about is delicious food, beer, food, and other awesome things.
Why not talk about new shit we are doing to curb all this awesome food we eat.
Also a great place for tips for working out/running/any sport you do.
Personally, I know nothing about Yoga, and would like to get into that. Ive been looking at that Bikram Yoga around the bay, but have no idea if I should get into it.

I wish more shops would consider about tattooing hands and necks, than just giving it out, but it's personal preference on the shop owner's and artist. I am tired of seeing people who don't even have sleeves get the side of the neck or hands done before even getting their legs done. I saw this kid at the mall who had a small tattoo on the side of his face of a cross, and he didn't have any other tattoos. Another example, I saw a kid who had all of his hands and neck done, but no sleeves, it just looked stupid.
On personal taste, I think having the side of you're neck looks good if it isn't too huge, and the top of you're hands if you already have sleeves/legs and you're torso/chest/stomach already done. I am still debating if I would get my hands done, the side of the neck unless I was really sure on what I'm doing in the future.

yep thats me. us thugs, and nate was hilarious. i slimmed down a bit, learned to tattoo and i've owned a shop in washington DC for almost 15 years now.

I remember trying to count how many dots were going into my ass (just to get my mind off of how horrible that session was). I think I stopped around 300.

designing tattoos in photoshop and applying filters aren't good reference for someone doing the tattoo, I would bring in the original photo of you're wife or another design, v.s. making it yourself.

Today we added a new 'Like' feature - this is not tied to the Facebook like system, instead it gives us a way to tell each other which posts we like or enjoy so that other members can navigate to the popular content more easily.
This will be the most valuable for threads that span for several pages.
You will see the 'Like' link appear at the bottom right of each post next to 'share' when you move your mouse over the post.
The forum home page now has a new section that lists the most liked threads.
Once people start using this new feature, a dropdown menu will appear at the top of each thread giving you a way to quickly jump to the most popular posts in that thread. I attached an image showing what it sort of looks like.
