I think this should be for finished work, not ongoing. I plan on posting the final shot of my back-piece for judgement when it's 100% complete. Don't think it's a tattoo contest if we have unfinished tattoos. No disrespect to you @Brock Varty . Aren't you looking to show off and be judged on the finished project? Show the beauty that the artist created, and commitment to the tattoo! The appointments, expense and of course handling the pain. The journey is shared on "Latest Tattoo Lowdown". That's where we all compliment and look forward to the finished project!!!!

After 14 sessions spanning 15 months, I'm thrilled to say that my back piece--courtesy of Jay Cavna--is finished. It's a rooster/boar/snake battle royale with peonies. We just wrapped it up a few hours ago. I couldn't be happier with it and am blown away by Jay's skill and commitment to his work.

Anyone else prefer shading to lining? I always have the worst time on long lines, just draaaaaaaaaaaaagging that skin. Shading is kinda fun, here a zap there a zap everywhere a zapzap.

Of the dozen sessions I've had on my back, the bookends were the worst--the first because it ran long and the last because my mental and physical state was shit. The ten in between don't stick out as being all that bad. Not to say I wasn't angry at the conclusion of a few. I tend to get irritated the longer I'm prodded with needles.

I can relate. I've been a bit bummed out since finishing my back a week or so ago. Like you, no regrets or anything. Just feels weird having an endeavor so big in different respects--time, pain, money, et al.--come to a screeching halt. I should probably do like you and get the next thing going, but I want to enjoy having something finished on me for a while. I guess some people are never happy. Ha!

Forgot to post this in last month's contest... Got it done mid-fiancee visit, so I was too busy with sushi joints and Klingon Monopoly to be online. Also, in what may have been a small miracle, we got the stencil (which was two pieces) perfect on the first try.

I got my ROA backpiece finished today and noticed I've felt kinda blue, blah, meh, ever since I got home. It's not that I regret the tattoo, or there's anything wrong with it. To the contrary it's awesome. It turned out as good as I ever hoped it would. But finishing the backpiece is kinda like climbing Mt. Everest for me. Like a "how do I top this?" feeling.
I'm sure it'll go away by morning. I already have plans for getting an eagle on my chest for my birthday.

From what I understand the producers have contacted quite a few talented artists to be contestants on the show but they've declined. I imagine once you're established it could be seen as kind of a step down. But with amateur and mediocre artists they see any publicity as good publicity. They are also naive enough to not know how bad they are. Dunning Kruger effect.
