I'd think that it would be simple to thicken those lines just enough to straighten them, but overall I don't think it's anything to worry about.  Mark it up to experience and plan your next.

Why on earth would you wait a year? That has happened in spots here and there on both of my sleeves, but a few months is more than enough time to wait before a touchup.

IMO large tattoos, like full back or full leg or arm sleeve are a sign of the times, large tattoos are a part of the new tattoo world we live in,
social media has also changed the tattoo world,
when I started getting tattooed in the early 80's, it was all small pieces,
back when I started you walked into a shop on a Friday night, picked a flash off the wall, and waited for your turn,
I have one large tattoo, but all the rest I have are small to medium size,
    to each his own,
but personally I like the traditional look of many small tattoos,

Yep, I'd think that $$$ has a lot to do with it.  If you're an average working stiff it takes time and self control to save up the money for a large piece.  Sure you can spread it out over time, but who wants to look at an incomplete tattoo for 5 years?  At least with assembling small ones you can enjoy each one as it's finished.
    Instant gratification and all.

Long story short - I have been sailing a lot, and finally decided to have a tattoo done. 🙂

The boat is family owned, with the name "Clearwater" on the side. This was done first and the map was added afterwards.

I love how the boat turned out, but I am a bit worried that the map (in the background) looks "unfinished" and unfortunately both me and my local tattoist ss totally lost on how to make it better. The ocean shading was done yesterday. That is why it stands out a bit.

I have thought of adding the country names on to try and "complete it" but this also makes the piece a bit messy in my opinion.

Do you guys have any ideas? Everything is appreciated.

I got my first tattoo at 40, this December. Upper arm, shoulder to elbow. I was more worried about how long I'd be able to sit for and getting an infection than not liking it. I guess the way I figured, it's just skin...if I hated it, oh well it's on my upper arm anyway.
Turns out I sat for the entire 11-5 session (with breaks) and it was completed that day. I love it way more than I thought was possible. So much so that I have my next appointment booked in April for my other arm, and then plan to fill in the under arm areas. I'll do my lower arms one day when a job change less likely. I can't wait for summer so I can wear short sleeves or a tank top so I can see the art all the time.
I'm a pretty anxious person, so I am really glad I didn't feel regret at all. I am glad I waited until I was older. I had thought about getting a tattoo many times, but what I was younger I would have gotten something I would likely be covering up now. It was easier for me to pick ideas that I feel confident are fleeting for me at this point in life. While I don't see myself getting body suit, or any neck of face tattoos, I definitely see this as something I'll keep adding to over time. Now I think people without tattoos look plain and boring 😆

I don't get it either.  If anything, it gave me a sense of accomplishment and overcoming of anxiety, not creating it.  I think too many people today is the simplest things as the end of the world instead of just getting over it and going on with life.  Not to sound like an old fart, but I think too many people today don't know what real hardship really is.

Seems to me that you should be here a little longer before you begin laying down judgement on others that have literally spent hundreds if not thousands of hours responding to people's questions and trying to help them through their experiences.

Session #3 done, I'm really happy with how things are shaping up!
Looks like one more session to add in a few more fine details, and then fill in a bit of background/border.  I still need to come up with something for the background, I think something relatively simple so it doesn't detract from the main subjects is probably best (any ideas or suggestions would be awesome too).

I don't have the slightest idea of which brands of ink have been used on me.  I like the idea of throwing caution to the wind.  Really, if I was going to drive myself crazy with things like that, I just wouldn't get tattooed.  To my mind they be fairly spontaneous and without serious forethought.

Yay, I meant totally zero offense too. I just chuckled as soon as I read it, not even 100% sure why. Guess just seemed like anyone into that symbolism wouldn't even notice bumps.
    Hope it heals quickly.

I'm betting just a very minor skin reaction to the wrap. I don't see anything to be concerned about at all. Leave it alone and it'll go away.
