Tattoos on the hand seem to be one of the best spots on the body, to get damaged before it heals. For me anyway. There is nothing quite like the feeling you get when you jam your hand into your pants pocket at 7-11 to pull out money. You can almost hear the ink being pulled out. So, if your going to get a hand tattoo, you might want to wear loose clothing with big pockets. Dont use your pants pockets to keep your stuff in. Wear baggy, loose shirts that are easily pulled over your hand with as little contact as possible. the best way is to keep the hand wrapped up for a few days, along with the baggy wear. I have had to touch up the tattoo on my hand twice, yes I learn things the hard way.

If your the type of person who feels that they are not getting enough attention from people, and are not comfortable unless your impressing everyone, and are thinking of maybe getting a tattoo that will gather crowds, may I suggest a full shirt of "Where's Waldo." I guarantee you'll be an eyeball magnet. And if you want your 'new friends' to hang around a bit longer, don't include Waldo anywhere in the piece. Just keep saying "He's there, you just gotta look."

While the garment is dry, try pouring a bit of hydrogen peroxide on the inked area. It should loosen it, and lift it off the material. This also works great on removing blood from clothing and carpet. You know, in case you damage someone, and need to clean-up. LOL

Yeah, I agree to that. But I would say, less than half of the prison ink I have seen, is tag related. Anyway, its all good. I'll try and get some more pics posted when I get a hold of a decent camera

I don't think many of us upload pictures to the gallery. I just use the "Insert Image" button and copy and paste the url from whatever social network (facebook, instagram, etc.) I have it uploaded to.

@thesandmanisme there is also the possibility that people might not want to share their numerous reasons. As far as the ones I've seen generally they are identifiers of some type, etc, etc. Usually a bit more personal, I'm guessing.

Hi everyone, I'm brand spanking new here, and have been lurking for only about a week. Though I'm not that new to getting tattooed. I have work done on both arms and on my chest. I plan on getting a lot of American traditional work on my lower left leg, and am starting with my first piece next week. I joined this forum to get some tattoo ideas, and hear stories from other members. If you have any suggestions on great traditional artists in my area, let me know. Thanks!

Are there any other fish keeping enthusiasts here? I'm a total fish nerd and recently I've been running into a lot of other aquarium nerd tattooers and collectors. I think it would be cool to share what specimens we have and post pictures. If not, I promise not to bore you all with my fish :o

    That is a beautiful fish!
    Currently have 3 running tanks:
5 gallon that contains a red cambodian double tail betta and zebra nerite snail as well as various live aquatic plants
60 gallon that currently contains 2 young blood parrot cichlids 7 neon tetra (there were 12 but are being eaten by the parrots. They were bought as dither fish anyway) and one L240 vampire Plecostomus
3 gallon which is currently home to two baby (about 1 in.) electric blue Jack Dempseys. This is just a growing tank until they are about 2-2.5 inches and then will be moved into the 60 gal with the other cichlids.
below are pics of the chiclids and the pleco.

I really dig the variations I've seen of the Russian prison epaulette tattoo handled in a more traditional manner . This one is by Rudy Fritsch who does great tattoos in a very distinctive style .

I'm National Guard right now. I think the main bullshit part about the regs is how often they change them. When I was enlisting in 2010 the regulation was nothing that showed in the Class A/ASU uniform which is our dress uniform. So basically in a jacket and tie.
Then within months of me joining they LOOSENED the regulations to allow neck and back of hand tattoos.
Then last year they made the regs more strict again and are trying to stop people from re-enlisting even though those very same people were within the old regulations. I think that is the fucked up part that they will pass down a regulation, people will go out and get tattooed, then a year later come back and tell you that you can't re-enlist because they keep changing their minds. That is bullshit.

My husband, Don, was in the army for 20 years. From 82-2002. He retired as an E-8 First Sergeant ( only one rank below E-9, the highest rank one can achieve as an enlisted man). By the early 90s he was fully sleeved, had his back, one side and numerous tattoos on his legs. He also began tattooing less than 1/2 way through his military career and worked both jobs, when able, till he retired from the service and only tattoos now. To my knowledge, he never had any issues and it didn't prevent him from rising in the ranks. I know that during the war in Iraq, the army relaxed it's standards to allow hand and neck tattoos, but has since reversed that. Much of our tattoo business is either army or air force- it hasn't changed much since I started tattooing, years ago.

I got out in 2001 as an E-6 (SSG) after 9 years in, due to shot knees (Humans weren't meant to be pack animals BTW.)
Glad I did, the U.S. Army (or at least the 101st Airborne Division) was all over the place with what was and what wasn't cool visible below the elbows in dress uniform during that time period. Beside's, I was totally sick all of the bullshit at that point anyway...
I wouldn't trade that period of my life for anything though. It all happens for a reason I guess.
My last day in the U.S. Army was 03/03/01. Nine years to the day. I didn't plan it that way, it just happened! Got out at Ft. Campbell, Ky.
My only regret about my time spent in the U.S. Army is that I got to fire every small caliber weapon the army had in service at the time...Except one. The M-2 .50 cal machine gun....
Dammit! I never got to shoot Ma Deuce!

Actually, very few of the actual "signifying" tattoos are worn by anyone but an "in-law" in Russia. There are some heavy possibilities for someone who hasn't earned them. Same here, if someone was to put on so-called "gang" symbols, things could get hairy right chop-chop.
Sandman, you should credit the article you posted.

Prison tattoos! Yes indeed. I have many. I have built the machines, made the ink, and sat in the cell for many, many, hours and days, doin tat work. I have seen some tattoos that look like, well, whoever did that work probably got a good asswhoopin'. And on the other hand, I have seen some prison tattoos that are mind boggling. Single needle, which is a guitar string bent into a pencil eraser off-center. the eraser is pushed onto the driveshaft of a cassette walkman moter. This is all assembled on a toothbrush that has been cut down heated up and bent 90 degrees at the top to support the motor that is fastened with whatever kind of tape is available. We would remove the 'ball', from the bic ball point pen, and there you have it. If you build the machine correctly, they will work like a champ. The best 'ink' was lamp black. Soot from a candle. All this and a lot of TIME, and in the right hand, will produce some very impressive work.
