suburbanxcore reacted to Gingerninja in Upcoming Tattoos
Where did the latest tattoo lowdown thread go?
Anyway, this past weekend was Ocktoberfest at Old Soul in Canonsburg, PA. It's a cool event where the shop invites a whole bunch of artists (like 60'ish) for the weekend. Some by appointment, some by walk-in. The trick is that everyone is queued up for a table/space to work since the shop has maybe 12 stations. The Old Souls guys have it running like clockwork...superiorly organized. You still have to wait but with the festival outside in the street and karaoke going on inside, the time flies by in no time.
Nate Hudak made this for me on Saturday. He has a super light hand and is fast. Back of the left thigh.

Got this weird little frog today from one of my favourite local tattooers at the moment.
Done by Tato Toby at Thank You Tattoo, Copenhagen.

Finished off this eagle/snake with Grez a few weeks ago. Hard to get a good photo by myself!
Also got this weird reaper from Chad around the same time. For the first time I'm having trouble healing red ink but it's getting there!

Bumping this for others to re-up their latest tattoos. Here's one on me by Jeff P. at Art Work Rebels from earlier this summer:

Yeah I'm really excited. I have a lot of cool tattoos either already in the works or coming up soon so it's great. I'm looking forward to the traveling as well. Texas should be very interesting. Your collection seems like it has a wide array of locations from a myriad of people. I still can't get over that piece from Theo you got.

Gonna book an appointment with Chris Trevino next week. Not sure of the exact date as I have to book it still but we briefly spoke on the phone about it and I couldn't be more excited. This will be my first time traveling out of state for a tattoo and I think I'll make a nice trip out of it. Just gotta wait until pay day and I'm gonna put the deposit down.

Spent another 2 days with Chris Crooks, he lined and shaded the back of my right leg on day1 and colored 2 lotus flowers on day 2. Going back in January to finish color and start the back of the left leg. Video of day1 on his instagram.

don't let your thoughts get out of control from reading here,
everyone told me my ribs, knees, elbows, wrists, hands, fingers were going to be brutal, and to be honest none of these spots I have had done were as bad as I had built them up to be in my head,
I still preach that pain is mostly in your head,as humans we have a really good ability to overcome pain through mental focus,
it works for me,and I find it a welcome challenge to work on when getting tattooed,I have come to embrace it.
it starts with what you are doing now, mental preparation ,to preparing the day and night before, and through the morning of the tattoo up to and during the tattoo,it's an entire experience that I embrace and practice.
here is my "pre-tattoo agenda"
mentally prepare yourself in the weeks leading up to the tattoo
sleep good and don't drink alcohol the night before (or the day of),
pre-hydrate the day before and day of and while being tattooed,(water or Gatorade)
eat a good non greasy healthy meal right before getting tattooed,
bring candy (I bring M&M's and Skittles) to eat during the tattoo(the sugar will keep you from passing out),I also bring a banana, beef jerky, and a few cold bottles of water in a little ice chest(no artist has ever minded me doing this,as a matter of fact they have liked it).
bring your phone for pics but mute the ringer and all sounds,
keeping up body sugars, potassium, and electrolytes will help to keep you from passing out ,
get yourself mentally in a good place.in the days leading up to and during the tattoo.
ask for a few 5 min breaks to stand up ,stretch, and get the kinks out.
this all helps me have a better overall tattoo experience, and the artist will appreciate it too.

Glad to see that those that went had a good time. It was nice to watch all the posts on IG from artists, friends, and the convention account. Good stuff, everyone.
Bummed that I've missed the last two years after going the first two. Here's hoping for next year!

Well, another session; this one was tough: down the left side. Ugh.

Had my 3rd session yesterday. Turns out 2,5h/session is what I can bear until I tap out. So overall 7,5h so far.
We did some linings on the lower back, over my butt down to the left thigh and some shading in the lower back area.
I'm stocked with the progress so far, wouldn't have expected so much ink on my back in that short time. Hell, but the pain was so intense, especially around the kidneys and tailbone. Holy crap, that hurt!
And I'm pretty aware that there is still a lot of work in those nasty areas. Scales, probably some shadings, colors...
Hopefully next session we'll just add details to the tail and maybe start the Koi on the right thight/butt cheek...

I have lots of tigers so I really like yours!
I guess I just don't see many pictures of women with large scale stomach tattoos. It's always those little underboob things or something across the bottom.
It's a nice large open space....I need to start planning something apparently :)

Matt is killer for Japanese style work at Kings Ave, and yeah, pretty much anyone at Invisible. RG is great, and I think Damien Rodriguez is criminally underrated.

Rose kills it. Always fun to watch the stuff she puts out up there. She's also insanely nice and puts up with so much crap from Grez with a smile. Haha.

Ryan Cooper Thompson posted this great one the other day:
I think something like that could be super cool. It's simple but far from boring. Personally, I love the folky feel of this one, but I could absolutely see this concept working in other styles as well, if traditional is not your thing.

Hello,
I currently have this tattoo on my left bicep.
I'm looking to get a peony tattooed on my right bicep (approximately the same size as the rose). I live in NYC, and was looking into Matt Beckerich at Kings Ave Tattoo. I like this piece of his:
Particularly, the purple peony. However, Matt only works on Wednesday at the parlor, and he is a bit pricey (approximately $250/hr). I was wondering if anyone knew of any artist/shops in the NYC area with similar skills/capabilities as Matt in creating peonies. Preferably, someone more affordable would be good too, but money is not really the issue. Availability of the artist is definitely a big plus--if they work evenings/weekends.
Please let me know if you have any advice regarding who I can get the piece from!
Thanks!!
