Nobody in the world cares about my tattoos. But I really like them.
I've got a bird friend on my shoulder who will be with me always. Poor little Squeaky, the real bird, died when I was away. I never got to say good-bye and now I don't have to because Squeaky is always there on my shoulder.
I've got a story of hiking a long trail on my leg. If I ever get Alzheimer's I will probably at least remember that experience since it's right there on my leg to remind me of all that I saw and did out there.
I've got big blue roses. Lots of color. I was hated and criticized mercilessly all my life for being ugly but now I have pretty colors on my skin to make me happy.
And finally, my butterfly. First time I went to a tattoo shop the artist there told me of giving an old lady a tattoo of a butterfly on her arm because she had always wanted one. There are so many things in life I've always wanted to do and it took me a while to realize that someday never comes. Do it now. And even though a barely-graduated apprentice did my butterfly, he cleverly mirrored the motif of the leaves of my roses and tied it all together. I feel like I carry a flower garden and a little bit of spring around with me wherever I go.
I claimed my body from those who had prior claims, defined it my own way, not theirs, and made it my own. Nobody cares about my tattoos, some people probably scorn me for them, and for that I even feel more grateful because against their disapproval, here I am, taking up space with my garden and my memories, just being me.

Go to Elm St.! I'm trying like hell to save some money to get tattooed there. I don't think you can wrong with anybody there. And that convention they're throwing for Fri. the 13th mentioned above is filled with the best in the business. Thw whole "women have higher pain tolerances than men" thing is total balls - It has been debunked time and time again. Its just an urban myth due to the whole childbirth thing. Google it.
What I have mainly found is that there is no correlation between men and women when getting tattooed - It's all about the individual. I have seen some women scream the house down and cry their eyes out for a very small tattoo in an easy area, I have seen some men sit and get their ribs and crotch carved up by a VERY heavy handed artist for eight hours without a single complaint. I have also seen some men who cant sit still for ten minutes at a time due to the pain, and some women who fall asleep because the pain just doesnt affect them in any way whatsoever. Everyone is different!!!

Heh, heh - I only discovered it after season 4. A pal loaned me the first season on DVD, purely because he knew I'm a Ron Perlman fan. I got hooked, bought 2, 3 & 4 and watched them relentlessly then got slightly depressed when I had to watch season 5 in "real time" on TV. (Actually, I'd sometimes cheat, and not watch for 3 weeks so I could record it & look forward to a proper catch up. Sad, I know.)
It's much, much worse having to actually wait for them to film some more!

Yea but plenty of owl tattoos aren't hipster and its a fine line with whipshading. My wife calls my (small) owl tattoo my hipster tattoo and it bugs me haha but I still like it. Animals that are humans is getting a bit old. The hipsters themselves annoy me most of all. Ive seen a few with amazing traditional western tattoos but they are still hipsters and thus bug me. They take many things I love and make it a trendy joke and for that I despise this "sub-culture".
