  1. My girlfriend, @Ninab, is now booked in with Civ and Stuart Cripwell for the convention, and I am still waiting for a confimation from Mike Rubendall and Ichibay. What do you want from Henning Jørgensen if he gets a cancellation, @jade1955?

Some great stuff booked in there. I'm looking to get a Namakubi (severed head) on the back of my leg. Fingers crossed for you.

  2. Put This On is a cool blog.

Also, I recommend searching antique stores for DEs, I found a ton of 1950s-60s Gillettes that are really solid and they were $8 each.

Im aiming to get a small collection and get a display case made by this small company in Germany Sora Shop

They made a custom perspex case for my collection of vintage cameras. Cost less than £100 and was ready in less than a week. Amazing.

  3. Yea a couple of hints: firstly do the full face prep

(heat a flannel in the shower/under the bath taps until it's steaming hot then press to the face and repeat a couple of times, then make up your lather with proper soap and only lube up one cheek/section at a time (sections being cheek, cheek, sideburn, sideburn, neck, underside of chin, chin, top lip) if you do it in sections you a) can get away with cheaper soap and b) don't have to lather on 2 inches deep of soap)

Then if you're new to using a shavette nice trick is to cut into the cardboard inside of a loo roll to blunt it just a little around three cuts does it for me.

You HAVE TO and I can't emphasise this enough stretch the skin when shaving otherwise that's it its a splatter orgy.

Many thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.

Loving this thread lots of really great links.

  4. Just a fiver one from ebay, word to the wise though: do not use a new blade every time. A double edged razor blade is a lot sharper than a straight and really unforgiving so you really need to steam and lube up your face, and invest in some styptic matches ;p

STRAIGHT CUTTHROAT RAZOR + 40 BLADES + 20 STYPTIC MATCHES [ same day dispatch ] | eBay Theres the exact one

Thats very interesting I tried a shavette for the first time (with a new blade) and guess what? I cut the crap out of myself.

  5. I'm glad to know I'm not then only guy here that is having a mental brakedow.....I mean has a new hobby. I am personally waiting until I feel a bit more comfortable with the DE before I go for the straight edge. At which point I am eyeing up a fancy dovo but I gotta take this one step at a time. Startup cost is a bit much.

Also anyone here check out the store the art of shaving?

Haha yeah. The startup cost is quite a bit but when you look at the price of a top end electric shaver it's comparable. A qualty razor will last longer than its owner.

That store Art of Shaving looks very good. I'll do some fantasy internet shopping later.

  6. @slayer9019 I was watching YouTube a couple of months ago and I just happened to watch a video made by this guy

Shave Nation Shaving Page. Visit ShaveNation.com - YouTube. He posts some really great reviews of various shaving products and tutorials on shaving technique.

I've now gone back to using a DE razor and have spent a shit load of cash on shaving products from Baxter of California & L'Occitane and a nice Edwin Jagger safety razor I only use that stuff at the weekend as a treat as it's expensive. This weekend it's Baxter of California products (how sad is this?). I also bought a straight razor shavette. Cut the shit out myself trying that out. Can you believe I thought that was pretty funny. I will learn though as some of those straight razors are truly beautiful and give the best shave possible. Next on the list though is a decent shaving brush.

There is no doubt you get a better shave with a DE razor and like you said it's cheap. The blades work out at less than £3 for 10 and they will last about 8 weeks.

I've even started to collect vintage razors from ebay for a display.

Watching videos of a man shaving and buying old razors ?????? This is either a healthy new interest or I'm having some sort of mental meltdown

  7. I have done the breakfast club and it was rather good. Another busy place that is small so there can be a wait there as well.

You sure got to eat at some great spots when you were in London.

And here's me ducking in to Nando's for a takeaway burger all the time. I guess that's because i usually drive to London and have little time to get anything done before i head to the shop, not enough time to look around!

Got my appointment with Mario next week so maybe i'll be a bit more brave with my dining choice!

Even the Eds Easy Diner, in Soho (which is shit in my home town) is ok. There's even a Michelin starred restaurant, Arbutus, in Frith Street.

FST have got some amazing artists visiting over the next few months.

  8. Frith Street-Koya

Smith Street- Prime Meats, Court Street, Blooklyn.

Frith St/Soho in general - London

Koya - Japanese udon noodles on Frith St, sometimes there's a bit of a wait and you can't book in advance but it's really fucking tasty and they do a good beer from the Kernel brewery.

Honest Burger - Really good quality burger served medium unless you state otherwise served with rosemary salt chips. They also don't take bookings, but if you go along and they can't seat you they'll take your number and ring you rather than having to wait so you can just toddle off for a well earned beer round the corner somewhere. http://honestburgers.co.uk

@Tim Burke Thats useful info about Honest Burger taking your phone number.

I turned up there in January. I didn't fancy the idea of waiting outside in the freezing cold for 20 minutes.

  9. So I wasn't sure if I was going to post any of my new tattoos but decided in the end to just go for it. I moved to France four months ago and have been sat in a lab isolated from the world pretty much ever since. I went to the Mondial du Tatouage show in Paris for three days as a birthday present to myself. I booked in with Stewart Robson and Valerie Vargas from Frith Street and also Greg Christian. I ended up getting tattooed six times in three days. It was also my first convention and I'm going to make sure I go to a few more :D

I stole all the pictures from the respective artist's instagrams apart from one which I took with my phone.

Demon head on knee - Stewart Robson (Frith Street Tattoo)

Geisha Girl Head - Cody Miller (Blackheart Tattoo)

    Flaming Torch - Greg Christian

Castle - Cody Miller (Blackheart Tattoo)

Medusa Head - Valerie Vargas (Frith Street Tattoo)

Devil Head - Nick Roddin (Blackheart Tattoo)

I can't wait for the convention next year

@asradin amazing collection from Paris. Well done to you.

  10. Aw! soo cool Valerie is the best! There's supposed to be a really good Japanese place right across the street from FST, I didn't go there last time, but Val and Stewart recommended it when I asked them for places to eat. They know lots of good places in the area but the restaurants might not be open early if you are eating before the appt. :) Also maybe @jade1955 or @Jade1959 got some pointers?

@scott @Eilin is spot on about the Japanese restaurant. It's called Koya and its across the street from FST. I've only managed to get to eat there once and it was very good.

Its quite small and its not unusual to see a queue waiting for a seat. Most of the restaurants in China Town aren't up to much. I've been in Gourmet Burger Kitchen (about three doors away from FST) a couple of times. They serve a good burger. The only thing is that if you have an early appointment theres not much to choose from. The Breakfast Club is also supposed to be good, although I can't vouch for that. You'll also get a very nice bacon & brioche roll at a pub called the Spice of Life. Thats next door to the Palace Theatre in Shaftesbury Ave a 5 minute walk from the shop.

  11. Now thats a nice story. I've seen this one before.

Great to see this tattoo fixed especially after hearing the story behind it.

The original tattoo is a mess. But even good a good tattoo dosn't always capture the smile. Scott has absolutlely nailed it.

  12. If it's an IMA rifle, double-check to make sure it was manufactured AT the BSA arsenal, and isn't one of the ones made under license! I'll get you some loading stuff from my friend, he has been loading for his for quite awhile.

    Its definitely a BSA rifle.

It'll be great if you can get me reloading info. Info on reloading is quite thin on the ground. Much appreciated.
