Tattoo appointment etiquette

This is something that encounter at least once a week.....

you know how when you have a dentist appointment you try to cram 6 months worth of flossing into 15 minutes before your appointment? or if you have to go to the doctor, you try to shower up before you go in for whatever is ailing you?

WELL PLEASE FEEL FREE TO TAKE THE SAME LIBERTIES WHEN YOU ARE GETTING TATTOOED!!!!!!!!!! brush your teefs so it dont smell like you been munchin on shit sandwiches for lunch. if you are getting your foot or cankle area tattooed, please wash your dawgs and wear a clean pair of socks! dont come in after working in the sun on the job site with your work boots and wool socks. and for you goofy hipsters.... wash your feet, borrow some socks from your dad, and wear a pair of shoes other than the sorry ass moth holed pair of vans you bought 5 years ago and have been wearing EVERYDAY since. you're gonna spend hard earned cash on a cool tattoo on your foot only to slip said foot into a pair of sneakers that smell like onions and vinegar?! not so smart. do the right thing. and while you are at it, wear some pants that fit you and put your girlfriends shirt back into her closet.

I think the analogy of a doctor and dentist appointment in comparison to a tattoo appointment are perfect. It is the little things that are often over looked by the consumer that are really important for that and potential future visits. Cause hey, you may end up visiting your tattooer more often than your doctor or dentist, I know I try to.

Also the cleans shoes, socks, and clothes are key for sanitary reasons plus much much more.

Thanks for your first blog Julio! I/we look fwd to what you bring to the community!?!

Until next time.....have a good day.

I totally agree with you Julio (and you had me laughing) but the people you're complaining about are probably the same people who don't floss/shower/considerately prepare before any other appointments either. Douchers will be douchers and stinky people apparently are oblivious to their own stench (or just are sadists and want to watch us suffer through our interactions with them!)

funny post! these are some great tips Julio.

Seriously, it is a win-win if you don't go to get a tattoo all stinky...i mean how is a tattoo artist able to do intricate, beautiful work when they are holding their breath and their eyes are watering from the stank?

I heard from a friend about a girl who wore some nasty ass granny panties with stains to her tattoo appt where she had to be pants-less. had stains. hilarious story but dude what a bummer for the tattooer. Lemme tell you when I got my butt done (yeah so what it was a decade ago, leave me alone) I didn't eat anything with fiber for days. Respect.

Wendy, I believe I know the young lady you are referring to and the story is hilarious. Pee stains, correct? haha, I love this story if it is the same one!?!

As for the no fiber, wow! You are one respectful person!!

Until next time....

I had a client that got a full on pedicure before the appointment. I gave the guy a free shirt and print for his trouble and my surprise over the whole deal. People,Your sandals smell like hell and if your feet muddle about all day in them, then your feet smell like hell. Please make it easy on the artist and WASH YOUR FEET! You can walk in and feel confident in your body and the artist can get to work with the machine. One hand washes the other.

Always have tried to be clean n str8 when I get inked, and it always has amazed me how many funk-bums go in au natural to get worked on. The ones that really amaze me are the people that can't sit still for a tat, always jumping and crying!

so true! personally i'd be ashamed to show up with smelly feet for a foot tattoo. lint between my toes etc. lets not forget the other "cool kids" that show up for a foot/ankle piece wearing 12 hole doc martins and are surprised when you tell them that's probably not the best shoe for a new foot tattoo. common sense ain't so common i guess.

I complained once to a buddy about this chicks stinky feet.....we were all friends and he must have said something because next time she came in she was sure not only to get a pedicure but to let me know she got a pedicure because she didn't want me having to smell her stinky feet. Classic. I still tattoo her to this day, super rad chick never a stinky since. Some of the people we deal with they obviously don't care about their overall hygiene or their disheveled appearance. But hey, it comes with the territory, we deal with all kind of folks from all walks of life.

"borrow some socks from your dad" had me dying

I always flex with my nicest sneakers... Throw them bitches out when they get ratty and clean your white ones. Dirty ass white converse don't look good in a tattoo shop or anywhere else

    • Thanks. And u just made me laugh, I guess my comment sounded conceded, and I did not mean to sound that way. I guess I'm in freak out mode because it's so on display. I don't think anything will ever meet my expectations because of where it is. So on display. My friend is actually going to my tattoo guy BECAUSE of this tattoo. Removal is not an option. I wont do that. I do have crippling anxiety due to having multiple sclerosis. I'm overly critical of this tattoo. The design is a sun with sun rays  that wraps around and up over my shoulder and a lotus below it. I don't like flowers. Just lotuses. Haha. So it's not your typical flowers down the arm tattoo. It's actually a unique design. I love yoga and zen things although from my post...I don't sound so zen. Haha. I've been going thru it now since summer started. I would say it's going in a while. I wear it out, got a compliment from someone at the gas station, I just don't look at it myself with it. It makes my stomach sink. Like I ruined myself. I'm ocd about it. I continue to get tattoos tho. I dont want to be a lunatic over it either. I always said I would never tattoo my upper arms and I did. And for the life of me, can't figure out why I did that. I was living in the moment I guess. So, if the reality of the tattoo doesn't meet my expectations,  what do u do for that? Add to it? Thank you for responding to me. I appreciate it a lot. I feel like I lost my mind over thos. I just got another tattoo on my forearm, and love it, it's smaller. Maybe that's why. I don't know. I allowed thos to be placed somewhere I never wanted ot, I approved it loved it afterwards and now....maybe cause it's so on display. I'm not used to having such big visible tattoos. Like, why cant I just be cool about it. I LOVE tattoos.
    • "I'm very fit and complimented all the time how tone my arms are" So if you were fat and out of shape it would be OK?  🤣 Tattoo Anxiety is not unusual, but it really depends on how long it goes on for. Has it been weeks, months, years? You really don't have a lot of options. Despite what laser removal centers would have you believe, you'll never get totally rid of it. Any cover up will need to be even bigger and bolder, don't let any "artist" tell you differently.  Given the tone of your post, "I'm very fit and complimented all the time how tone my arms are," "My artist is extremely talented, there is not 1 shaky line, crooked line," "The line work is out of this workd, perfectly straight," "Everyone loves it" it sounds like the reality of the tattoo doesn't meet your expectations.
    • Hello, So I'm new here and reddit is just awful people so, I wanted advice. So for some reason, I allowed a tattoo be blasted down my arm. My fault I know. I'm very fit and complimented all the time how tone my arms are. So, I got a sun over a lotus tattoo. My artist is extremely talented, there is not 1 shaky line, crooked line, and hes not cheap. Hes been tattooing me and my husband a long time. The line work is out of this workd, perfectly straight. Its a bold tattoo. All black. Everyone loves it. But for some bizzare reason, I can not look at myself in the mirror at this tattoo. Has this ever happened to anyone before? It's healed, but all I do is cover it and hide it. Has this happened to anyone? It turned out bigger and bolder than I ever imagined. From my shoulder to about 3 inches above my elbow.
    • Good luck. Job hunting sucks. I got laid off from a company after 20 years and it took six months to find a job. I was in the dreaded “middle” management role at an IT company. A little over two years later my new company was  bought out and they did a “restructuring” which means the people doing the work get fired so the people sitting on their fat asses get fatter.  I couldn’t find what I really wanted so I just retired. Might be a good time to think about switching fields.
    • The only "amazing" thing I've been doing lately is job hunting. Honestly, it’s stressful. I’m always worried about having enough money for basic expenses and stuff each month. There are lots of jobs on Layboard https://layboard.in/vacancies/jobs-in-uae/jobs-in-dubai/speciality/baker, where I’ve spent most of my time. I sent my CV to several companies and I’ve got decent baking skills, even without formal training. So I hope they'll give me a chance to do a test task or something to show what I can do.
