im newish with a rising post count, so i hope im not a suspect here. im just here to browse and not really post in the tattoo subjects where people know way more than me, share about my laser experience, share random other shit in subforums, and then get some damn good art work going. i understand that the tattoo world, just like everything else in life, is a give/give culture. ive learned more in just the few months that ive been here than a lifetime of reading magazines or talking to people on the street. im greatful for that.
but i agree about the artists not being on here kind of sucks. when i got here i was learning a lot from guys like stewert and mario.

It seems to me that lately, less and less knowledgable people are commenting,posting etc. It also seems that thier are more lurkers with "I know some shit" attitudes. those that fit this profile should understand that you are ruining this site. This site was started in hope of an intelligent place where some could learn about the nuances of this craft. Stating amateur attitudes on here does not help.Having gotten three tattoos does not make you an authority.

Probably not a very good idea to give out the address of a place selling tattoo supplies. The cat is out of the bag with this one anyway...there was that guy who started an intro thread a week or so ago saying that he bought a "starter kit" on Amazon so shit is easily available to anybody who wants it.
Scratchers bother me but I think the best way of dealing with them, at least in the context of this forum, is to promote the art and the craft of good tattooing and to show people that if they're willing to put the time, money, and effort into it, that anybody can get truly great tattoos, and that great tattoos are absolutely worth it.

like life, why dont you just let it happen, get a damn tattoo.....pre planned mementos seem very strange.It seems to miss the point to me. instead of forcing meaning into your tattoo,get tattooed , it will have meaning,especially when traveling.....

Really. 10 (even little) tattoos, each an image that would remind you in particular of your visit to that specific place. That's what will make you smile 10, 20, 30 or 40 years from now.

I haven't even pierced our daughter's ears yet. This makes me wish I believed in hell.

I was fortunate enough to live around the block from 222. I went in there a bunch and was the pesky kid with no money, i bent Juan and Rassier's ear a few times with tales of tattoos i didn't have money to get. They had a pretty good bullshit detector but humored me anyway. I got to watch Paco paint the side of the building and when i was a bike messenger I delivered a heavy ass box of flyers or something from the print shop to 222. Scott was there to receive it and asked me how the hell i road there with that package. I told him I rode it on my bars wedged in between my forearms, and he gave me a $20 tip. It was one of the only tips I ever got while messengering.

I think I would be remiss if I didn't add Junii Salmon to this list, considering she's a) a total bad ass, and b) she did my last couple of tattoos, and will be doing more! 'b)' of course is not a criteria for this list, but I thought I'd throw it out there ;).

Mary Jane Haake is an amazing and beautiful lady that has been tattooing in Portland for 31 years, she apprenticed under Bert Grimm. Her work now mostly consists of reconstructive work on burn victims, breast cancer patients, wounded soldiers, which I personally think is a really cool thing to do. She kind of holds things together in Portland is the best way I can put it. She works as kind of a liaison to the health department , keeping us up to date on any new laws or restrictions. It seems like whenever you have an issue you can always call Mary Jane, and she is willing to listen and help.
She throws a birthday party every year, with food, live bands, and such and I have been lucky enough to be able to tag alone with boss man a few times. It's always a great time and usually end up meeting some pretty legendary people in the tattoo world there.


Here is a video of her talking about her career, Bert Grimm and tattooing penis and butt crack among other things. She is also the only person I know that uses a coil machine to tattoo to do cosmetic tattooing.

I was always a fan of Suzanne Fausier (sp?) from Michigan.
And I've known Annette since I was.... christ.. 15? Deb tattooed my brother when he was on vacation once.... small tattoo world.

Born Weird stuff has always intrigued me. Jeff Rassier is on my list of to-get-tattooed-by, and I plan on getting something pretty weird from him. Stoked to see what this book brings.
