I stumbled onto this thread and want to bump it because suddenly it is relevant to my  plans.

I am planning a Japanese style back piece and partial sleeves, with chest panels (I’m a guy, by the way). I recently found some images online of some Japanese chest pieces that incorporate the nipples into the design. I’m now really intrigued with the idea of nipples incorporated into the center of flowers and I would would like to do something like that as part of my piece. I’ve never cared for designs where the nipple is sort of a random hole in the design. In my opinion, incorporating them into the flowers sort of subtly acknowledges their “nipple-ness” while still disguising them and blending it into the design in a way that doesn’t detract.

My areolae are light in color and not very big, so I’m thinking that the flower coloring could extend over the areolae and go right up to the base of the nipple so that just the protruding part would be not be colored.

I like to play with Photoshop, so i superimposed some images onto a  picture of my chest, and adjusted them so the they would fit my body (see below).

One pic has a large flowers with the nips in the center, the other has cherry blossoms. They both have pros and cons. I’m leaning toward the cherry blossom version because it is a little more subtle. _Cherry Blossoms.jpg_Peony.jpg

Has anybody here tried anything like this, or have have any thoughts, opinions, thoughts on aesthetics, or other guidance on this? Am I crazy? I have found posts on LST that suggest that getting tattooed around the nipples is quite an interesting experience. All opinions welcomed!

I started by looking at the pictures and was scratching my head as to how one guy had two different tattoos... Nice work on the photoshop!

I really like the lower image with the peonies. I mean, you're talking about blasting over your nipples, so why not go mega bold?!?

    Here frands:

Feeling pretty tattoo-flu-y, but I have a steak on the way, and then it's time to drink every water and sleep every sleep. So happy that we finished the areas that were the most painful for me during lining, though.

    Couldn't be happier.

I was staring at this when it came up twice today on instagram, and of course it is on an LST member!!! Awesome, you are very much winning today :)

Your answer is contained above. Ask your tattooer. Otherwise, I dunno. An eight ball? An anvil? Choices may be limited somewhat.

I think eight ball is a classy choice. Or mini black panther head. I don't believe that a dragon would be the appropriate choice for this one.

I have a question about etiquette and covering during back piece sessions. I'm planning a back piece which will include my butt. There are several stations in the shop so I will be around other people of both sexes (I'm a male btw). Obviously that means that the lower half of my body will be exposed during the process. I'm comfortable with that, I'm not a prude. My concern is that I don't want to be "inappropriate" in the shop. When getting that part of the body tattooed I know I will have to shift positions, stand up occasionally, etc. and in the process "other things" could become exposed. I don't want to offend anyone or flash the whole place. Does anyone who has been through that have any suggestions on what to wear or cover with so that the back area is accessible, but keep the other parts appropriately covered? I had considered some sort of thong thingy, but hey, I'm in my 60s and those cheeks are not as firm as they were at one time, so the image of me in a thong is... well, I just don't want to gross people out, or have everyone in the shop laughing behind my back.

Somewhere in this mega thread, or the other mega backpiece thread there is talk of a "fudoshi" basically a long strip of fabric cleverly wrapped around the waist and legs to cover up Japanese style. Search for it and you'll find it.

Otherwise I saw a fellow getting his whole back and cheeks done at the Montreal convention this year, as public a space as can be. He had a sock and a paper towel draped over the area. Was good enough for him.

People at the shop will laugh it off or at worst be scandelized and have a great story to tell with their new infinity symbols tattoo.

Hopefully finishing up my Jondix/Chad collabo back piece next Wednesday 10/19. Appointment with Chad at State of Grace! haven't been tattooed there since 2010, so i'm excited to feel that vibe again.  Dreading more pain on the back, but hopeful it's the last time!

Have we ever seen a photo of this powerhouse collaboration? Sounds like it would be awesome!

  7. Hi Charles, hope you're doing well. I notice that you are new to this forum and are quite keen in posting. I'm not too sure what you're working towards though. Several of your new threads seem to have a commercial vibe to them, are you hoping to sell us something? If so we have a forum group for that, but I believe you are supposed to try to keep those posts to a minimum.

You seem to be really into tattoos, so perhaps you should look around and contribute to some of the ongoing or older discussions, enlighten us with some opinions and knowledge. Maybe cool it off on these drawing books and colouring books by tattooers for tattooers messages, we get it.

    cheers,

    Sam

  8. Those tattoos all seem fine to me. You seem to be rushing along here with your first tattoo about two weeks ago now. You didn't seem to keen on that one, though it looks as good as your others, but then you went back for more...

Tattoos are still a forever thing, don't settle for getting what's convenient if you have exacting taste, but once you've got it Live With It!

I hope you don't go back to that shop as it doesn't seem to meet your expectations. Let everything heal up and by that I mean wait two or three months, then it will be time to evaluate what to do next. If you still hate them, you should probably get them lasered off and step out of the tattoo game as the art-form might not best suit you.

  9. Never had this with red ink, but an orange and on another occasion some white highlights were still peeling months and months later. Like the surrounding skin was fine but these areas were extra dry. It eventually cleared up and now all those spots are fine.

Jon just knocked these out on my arms last night. Really stoked. I felt so sick that day, so Im glad I was able to power through it. Just chugged apple juice and soda to keep myself concious through it all. Thankfully arms are easy spots for tattoos, and my arm was asleep for the diamond lady because of the awkward position, so it didnt hurt that much.

Getting a Fudo Myo-o cat by Chris Anthon today. Will post photos latter.

I love how so many of the cool tattoos I see on instagram turn out to be on LST posters! Keep up the collecting.

  11. Hi there,

I think what Marley means is that this forum isn't one where people seek advice on the making tattoos side of things. It's a collector's forum.

I'll give you my quick word of advice, it's not a bit of internet validation that will get you into anything. Show your images to the tattooers who are surrounding you, maybe they will help you, maybe not.

I remember all the pain, I'm not stoked about the memories.  I still get tattoos by artists I like regardless of how hard it is to sit through it, I just maybe got a little rant-y about it.  I completely trust you when you say Chad still heals well and is worth the cost of admission, I just got a little defensive about the subject I guess. I can agree I put more emphasis on the outcome and bond after the tattoo.  At least everyone here is honest about tattoos hurting, anyone that says otherwise is a liar.

A big terrible liar!!! Or some kind of mutant.

Not intending to be confrontational but,

I don't care about having "earned" my tattoos, the easier the experience and less trauma caused by the end of the tattoo the better for me.  If I can get my tattoos bright & bold with a quarter of the pain and have them heal twice as fast then I'm going to take that.  I get the "you earned it" thing I'm just not huge on it; I'm happier to earn my tattoo by having the money, time, and commitment instead of the pain threshold, adrenaline, and healing factor.

This all being said I'm still likely to get a Chad tattoo, just not as quickly, because his work and lifestyle both bring to mind the folk art feel that tattooing has to me.

Though I do like the concept of having earned my tattoos, I feel that way about all of my collection. Some tattooers seem to work in a way that is more painful than others, but it all hurts anyway. So my thinking on it is get tattooed by people who's work you can't live without.

With proper after-care and a bit of luck all the work of the pro tattooers we so often discuss here heals well. They may apply it a bit differently from one another, but in the end it's all about the healed image. They know that too and work to make it happen. So if two tattooers inspire you equaly and one is known for their soft touch go for it! Otherwise I figure the process is less important than the final outcome.
