  1. Shit man, I'm not one to talk shop on here.

You're tattooer should be able to handle the job.

Keep in mind, IMHO and others, I believe, palm tattoos aren't meant to look super clean and awesome.

They're awesome when they are solid.

I don't really like this term, but in this case I guess I can use it... "controlled blowout".

The first time that term was explained to me it was in reference to Chris Trevino and Jason Brooks. It sounds like the most painful shit ever whether its on a palm or anywhere else.

  2. @CABS: Oh, I see. That Cripwell suit with the legs, I guess? It's pretty amazing to look at. Who knows, it may wind up that way with my arms! I have so many mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, Greg is a great guy, he's nearby, and I'm totally thrilled with what we've done; it's fun to go in and flip through books of classic flash until we see something we like, and have him put together his take on it. It feels a little bit like getting a present every time I go, since I haven't known exactly what it'll be either time. I definitely wouldn't hate doing that indefinite

On the other hand, I'm so curious about experiencing how other shops and tattooers do their thing, and that's on top of admiring their tattoos (and I'm still discovering new tattooers all the time, since I'm a noob).

Tough choices! But, I feel lucky to have that kind of tough choice to make.

You really should go by Atlas. Incredible tattooers and great guys.

  3. Next big thing planned... New York in a month for a Beau Brady rose on my forearm, and possibly trying to see about an NYC souvenir tattoo at Smith Street. Taking a pre-wedding honeymoon, as soon as my fiancée gets moved over from Ireland (after 6.5 years of the ocean being in the way), getting blasted on, and having a great time, if all goes according to plan!

I'm with @Graeme on this one. Lots of great shops in New York to get tattooed at. Add Three Kings, Fun City, and New York Adorned to the list. I know everyone thinks of Smith Street as the New York shop, but it doesn't even make my top five shops in that city.

  4. Agreed with this. I think this new, simpler direction he's going with his tattoos is really great. That's a really beautiful tattoo, excellent start @sophistre, what's up next?

It's cool that you noticed that as well. He gets tattooed by Jacob Redmond a lot, and I think that may be influencing him. As you already know I love Jacob's tattoos, and everyone else at Atlas. In fact I sent Cheyenne an email this morning about getting tattooed again during our next Portland visit. If that doesn't work out I think I may try to get in with Greg.

  5. I got a thing today. Hard to believe it too me almost 33 years to finally start. A fun Percy Waters bird from Greggletron/Greg Whitehead at Scapegoat Tattoo. I stole the picture from his instagram.

Side note: I really appreciate this forum. I went to my appointment totally prepared and actually knowing more than the average bear (which is still only a very little, admittedly), and he kept asking me 'are you sure this is your first tattoo?' He kept talking about how pumped he was to work on somebody who'd give him creative license, who knew about Good Tattoos and what makes them good, and...yeah. It made me feel really good. I'm pretty sure I learned all of that here. He would probably thank the forum too if he could. Haha.

Booked my next appointment for October. IT BEGINS.

Beautiful tattoo. I really like the new direction that Greg is going with his tattooing. He is putting out really strong and beautiful work.

  6. Thanks man, I really wanted to keep a traditional feel even if it's not 100% old school.

I hear you I get nervous the day of every session and then I'm upset when it's over. This whole thing is a process so no rush especially at 13 months in.

The dude over my shoulder is one of the shop Artists he's super talented (wish I knew his name) but his work is solid as all hell. He watches rubendall do his thing when he has down time (usually during my sessions).

It's flattering when the people in the shop are into the piece

    Thanks for all the support

I think the artist is Shaun Nel.

  7. He told me that it's Doug pushing him to reprint them, not his own desire to milk anything. Said he hadn't even considered reprinting Tattootime until Doug said he should. The profits from book sales is probably 1/100th of his income to be honest. Even Taki says that book sales are usually not the cashing-in type of income.

Have you ever heard mention of Ed putting out a book of those Duke Kaufman prison drawings? I know that Ed owns a bunch of them. Scott Harrison used to carry around photos of them, and I have seen Mary Joy put one or two of the designs on the antique handkerchiefs she paints. They are some of the coolest designs I have seen.

  8. no i was trying to get a lehi tattoo but he is booked further out than the time i would be there.

rassier had an opening and i considered getting something but never called back to confirm it.

didn't even talk about subject matter not sure what i would get from him.

probably would just like to talk to him about what would fit the spot and throw out a few options and figure it out from there

I think that Jeff is pretty easy to get in to see. I would call back. I bet he can fit you in.

  9. Don't really have a favorite artist. I've gotten the two I have from Dean and Tyson at Historic Tattoo. My wife is working on a side piece with Tanya at Above the Pearl and it's looking great so far. I keep coming back to Cheyenne Sawyer at Atlas on Instagram, and can't help but think I better setup an appointment with him. Absolutely killing it from my perspective.

Historic is a great shop, and a great choice. You should also check out Atlas. I have been tattooed by Cheyenne, and I can't speak highly enough about him. Great tattoos and a great guy. Everyone in that shop is really good. I will be down there one month from today getting tattooed by Jacob Redmond.

  10. I don't recall where I heard it but Yoni Zilber may have even apprenticed under Avi Vanunu. Yoni's tattoos are absolutely beautiful. I need to make plans to get tattooed by him.

You definitely should get tattooed by him. His Tibetan work would look really nice along side the Hooper stuff you have. You gotta get yourself over to see Tom Yak as well.

  11. Ah cool! About all I know about tattooing in Israel is Avi Vanunu who also tattoos there/maybe owns the shop? Anyway, post up some pictures!

I think that Yoni Zibler, from New York Adorned, goes over there and tattoos sometimes. I love his work.
