Wait, wait, wait...WHAAAAAT?!?!? What the...what? Wait a minute...no, just simply, WHAT??? Traditional American Japanese? Neo new old school? Am I missing commas?
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Ha ha! That was hella confusing the first time I read that. Some of it sounded like an oxymoron. I'm a little anal though. Things are either traditional japanese or new school or old school or Neo Japanese or American Japanese but old school traditional American neo new school Japanese? That's a new one for me. Are you thinking an Ed Hardy style? I'm trying to wrap my head around this. Would love to see an example. Enjoy November 19th.
haha seriously. what the hell is this?

i'm not a fan of seeing a sleeve of japanese traditional and then an american traditional sleeve. just not my thing. i want everything to be cohesive for me, so i'm sticking with one style.

Second viewing starting now. Probably the second of many ;)
......and yes, I caught a lot more the second time around (Hanky Panky's hair LOL! thanks @cltattooing ) There is so much to take in, especially visually. Aside from posts here on LST in the past few months, this is my first major exposure to the work of Shige. My mind is officially blown!
If I had to make one criticism, it would be that Marcus needs to make his questions more concise and much less wordy. I felt really bad for the interpreter lol :)
i agree with you about the questions, but i wouldn't be surprised if that was edited in after the interview was done. if not, i completely agree. however, the dude should be cut some slack. he's a tattooer, not a journalist.

Planning a (tattoo) trip for this fall. Starting at the London Tattoo convention I'll snatch some pieces from El Carlo, maybe Jaclyn Rehe, a friend in Serbia and near the end of the trip: Rudy Fritsch and Dane Mancini in Trieste.
Also booked in with Bueno of Circus Tattoo, Madrid, for Stockholm Inkbash.
And there I was.. thinking I'd slow down on getting tattoos during 2013. Well well..
Edit: The Jaclyn Rehe-piece is happening. And hopefully I'm getting an eel done by Deno too, in London. Beyond happy! (And my wallet is the opposite)
This is awesome. Forget about the money, you'll be happy in the end.

As others mentioned, this episode was phenomenal. Shige and Horiyoshi were both awesome interviewees, also both were inspiring. Was talking to the woman about the fact that no matter the craft or trade, dedication is that one thing that usually sets the greats apart from the rest, and I really appreciated that both mentioned how they've dedicated their lives fully to tattooing and that it's their lives. Shige was getting existential on our ass as well. Can't wait for part two.
Also, I'd like to have a beer with Marcus. Dude seems like such a cool guy.

grez is seriously such an amazing tattooer, and versatile is a very apt word to use in describing his work.

gotta go with dan santoro. i've pretty much only gotten tattooed by him in the last year, and don't plan on deviating from that anytime soon.
besides the other dudes at smith st, if i had to choose someone else, it would either be steve byrne or stevie edge. dudes' tattoos always blow me away.

i'd love to hit this shop up. i don't even know which one of those dudes i'd get tattooed by. they're all pretty excellent.
