wow great photos. I've never seen that copy of "On The Road"- rad cover.

here's my contribution, three of my favorite paintings:

frida-kahlo-dorothy-hale-su1.jpg

The last painting was breath-taking in person. The extension of the painting beyond the canvas onto the frame was fucking rad.

Jake, he's an artist that shows at Gallery 22 on Post, I believe?

If we're mentioning paintings, here's one of my faves, although a pic could never do it justice:

I met a guy who was having every little scene from this painting tattoed somewhere on his body from a woman in NY, does this sound familiar to anyone?

No I saw it at the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the SF MOMA.

What painting was the guy getting tattooed on him? That sounds like it could be frustrating for an artist to translate that to skin. I don't know though, I don't tattoo, maybe not...?

Oh, duh, knew I saw it somewhere myself.

The guy was getting little scenes from Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights. The tats were beautiful, no computer pic could do it justice, but here it is-

HOT DAMN! So many great images especially the Tattooland stuff!

I just got the book Punk 365 by Holly George-Warren with forward by Richard Hell for the holidays and it is mesmerizing as well! Anyone seen this one? The whole time I was reading/looking through it I thinking "how does that person relate to punk" but then I remembered them either interviewed and/or talked about in the book Please Kill Me. So many musicians from all genres contributed even if there music wasn't punk or hardcore.

Thanks for sharing!!

    • Thank you cyoonit! I have bad body dysmorphia as well and so it’s hard for me to see reality sometimes. I’m working on it but I’ve been that way my whole life. My idea I proposed to the artist was a monmon cat but instead of a cat, a hedgehog. It’s what I had named my deceased hedgehog after. I’ve just had people come ask me to post my tattoo on reddit for bad tattoos and for Twitter and it really hurt my feelings. I’ll post my inspiration pics. I liked aspects of all of them. But I’m gonna let it heal up for a month or two and if I don’t like it still I’ll contact for a cover up/correction. I’m moving to Philadelphia in July and I might be able to contact artists there. Maybe adding gray in the body? Hard to say.  Unfortunately I didn’t take a pic of the drawing I had been shown. Maybe without the shading it looked better to me. I don’t know. My husband says it looks fine. But I just keep seeing the face looking wrong to me.
    • I tried googling hedgehog tattoos in japanese style and there wasnt any helpful pictures so i have no basis at what that is "supposed" to look like.  With that being said, i'm curious to see what the drawing itself looked like. The second picture angle makes it look perfectly fine. If it's way too far off from the drawing and you're that unhappy with it, I would go talk to the artist about it. But if it's in your artist's style and looks similar to the concept drawing, sorry to say there's nothing that you really can do other than to look into lasering/coverups way down the line. I would let it heal completely first and see where to go from there? You might be judging your own tattoo a bit too much, but I only say this because i'm not sure what the concept was supposed to look like.  Keep your head up and good luck!

Heading to Oakland, California to see Freddy Corbin at Temple tattoo to get inked for our 25th wedding anniversary.
      Appointment is noon, Tuesday.
Daniel Higgs did the original wedding tattoos at Realistic Studio in San Francisco and Freddy was in the shop watching and making comments while he was doing us. Daniel doesn't do tattoos any more. So our first choice is Freddy to keep spiritual continuity.
The wife and me are getting a "25-XXV added somewhere . I am also getting a "Dragon" mixed into it...
I'll keep you up to date.

Hello! So this is my second intro post, but ive taken my original idea and reworked it, Just would like some feedback. Basically, the body drawings are rough sketches, of course the feathers would be done better and the little girl would look more like the one in the pic with the long quote. The quote ive shortened to "happiness is not the absence of struggle". There's a ton of meaning behind every inch of this design and I could explain it, but really im just looking for feedback on the tattoo aesthetically. Im planning on keeping it all black ink, but if you think colour would look nice somewhere, let me know! This will be my first tattoo so all the feedback is appreciated greatly. Keep in mind these are rough sketches and my artist (who I met today!! :D ) will be drawing it out more nicely. Im likely going to have to break it up into pieces and do it over the course of the year because of cost, opposed to squeezing it into a month or two. As far as pricing goes, what do you guys think? I just want to get a few more quotes before I commit to this shop. Thanks a million!
cant get photos to upload on post.. check out my gallery :)

hi all this is my introduction thread. im a huge enthusiast in tattoos and i love american traditional style hence the name. im going to school to major in art education but i all types of art. the reason i titled this thread trad. flash help is because i drew an american traditional design and would like some input on it. i had planned to get it on my left leg but placement is still up in the air and i dont know if i should keep all of the elements. i also want to get a homeward bound ship on the same leg in the future so i need to plan around that. constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance guys

I've done a search on the net and on here but can't find what I'm looking for. Does anyone know a source to explain the symbolism behind Japanese tattoos? I'm not talking about high level Koi means this, Dragon means this; I'm talking about a really detailed explanation such as an explanation of what the symbolism behind a Samurai holding a scroll in his mouth is, or what it means for a Samurai to be shown killing a Koi fish.
I'm thinking about ideas for my next big piece and don't just want to put some random symbols on myself, or if I do, I want to do it by choice, not by ignorance.
      Thanks.

I don't know about you guys, but I sometimes struggle to find
a Christian themed tattoo that really excites me, and I'm a bona fide
      Jesus freak.
Don't get me wrong, Rock of Ages is cool and all, but other than that
crosses and praying hands don't really excite me.
Do you guys have or know of any cool Christian Themed tattoos?
