Thank Christ for that, I'd be pretty concerned if my stomach could tell time. :p

It would be great! You wouldn't have to wear a watch

I was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis type I. What does this entail? Fuck me, I dunno, as it progressive and unpredictable. I might just keep getting giant tumors, which I already have and have named for my favorite tattooers. I could get cancer, or brain tumors. My spine may curve, but my posture is pretty bad anyways.

I could get tumors that break bones, and I can get a nice amputation for that. Or it may just disfigure me.

It's what they thought the Elephant Man, Joseph Merrick had, but he had something else.

Wanna know the real shitty part? It's expensive as Hell to treat, and I may be able to get through on SSI/Medicare/Medicaid, but my tattooing will always be underground.

And right after I renewed my license too! I have the will to live, and my body is messing with me. When I make a bad joke, I laugh at myself and say, "Oh. I kill me."

Now I add, "Literally."

But am I complaining? HELL NO! Not even one little bit. Although I do find it shitty. Hence the post.

Look on the bright side- do you know how famous The Elephant Man is?

But seriously.

NF-1 is a progressive and diverse condition, making the prognosis difficult to predict. The NF-1 gene mutations manifest the disorder differently even amongst people of the same family. This phenomena is called variable expressivity. For example, some individuals have no symptoms, while others may have a manifestation that is rapidly more progressive and severe.

For many NF-1 patients, a primary concern is the disfigurement caused by cutaneous/dermal neurofibromas, pigmented lesions, and the occasional limb abnormalities. However, there are many more severe complications caused by NF-1, although some of them are quite rare.

There is no cure for the disorder itself. Instead, people with neurofibromatosis are followed by a team of specialists to manage symptoms or complications. In progress and recently concluded medical studies on NF-1 can be found by searching the official website of the National Institutes of Health.[18]

Dude this is horrible, you can get legions on your eyes and become blind, your bones can warp and break and never mend themselves, limbs grow misshapen and alien, it can even mutate into cancer. I've never even heard of something so awful. Have any symptoms arisen yet? If so, what are they? That really really sucks man- but now is the time to do everything you've always wanted. Live an adventure. Travel with only a backpack to foreign countries and live the life of a vagabond seeing the world and meeting people. I'm not saying you better fulfill your bucket list- but you have got to Live man.

Dude...

That sucks.

My sister has a whole bunch of the cafe au lait spots and we've always wondered if that's what she has. So far so good for her though.

I have my own incurable thing... I've posted about it some, and it's actually what led me here in the first place.

The way I look at it is this - there are no guarantees at all. I could step off the curb and get hit by a bus tomorrow. "now" is all you can count on. I try my best to fully inhabit "now".

The future is fuck scary. The past, it's gone. I want every moment I have to be as happy and good as possible, so I focus on the good, attend to the things that make me happy, and try to let all the rest of it go.

I just want to say that I read this thread now and then and my heart just sinks. I appreciate that this is a place where many of you feel comfortable sharing some of what you're going through, and I only hope that it offers you some measure of relief and comfort to know that many of us are thinking of you, and all of us are pulling for you

Speaking entirely from personal experience, this thread is the reason I don't come back here anymore. I put some personal problems out on the internet, and some people got involved who I don't even know, or care all that much about. Now, every time I come back here, even when I'm just reading threads, I feel like I'm being looked at with sorrowful eyes and weirdly motherly affection from people I have met maybe once or twice or four times or not at all. Don't be too trusting of people on the internet, kids.

Well, that sucks- but, everyone is different, and some people appreciate the support. No one is compelled to post their problems here. It sounds like you did and then regretted it, but that's hardly a reason to be disrespectful to the people that find it therapeutic.

Not to belabor the issue, but: I haven't met anyone from this forum, but I do care (or if "care" is too loaded a word, give a shit) about the people on here. If you've hung around for longer than a few weeks, why wouldn't you? Having met a handful of people who I'd previously only talked to online, I'm no longer so sure that the internet is less "real" than other ways of communicating. But it does suck to feel like you've been at the receiving end of some false or patronizing sympathy.

@Gloomy Inks, I am so sorry to hear this.

Just thought I would say thanks to all that are pulling for me. As to Myles, dude, I hear you, however I like to think that people here, tattooers, collectors, all of us, have something together that people who don't wear tattoos will never have. Hey, people may look at me like I'm sick, but I just make 'em laugh. Determination can do wonders for you, and nothing can focus the mind like the thought of your own demise.

And hey, you only get the one go round, no one gets to be here for the whole time, and you gotta make the best of what time you have, use it. That's why I'm looking into starting my own machine company. Nothing pretty, but all US made, coils and all. Brass no less too!

To else, here is my abridged bucket list:

1. Marry my woman.

2. Start and finish my back piece (from an 1860s photo of a female Samurai)

3. Make machines and tattoo as long as I can.

4. Visit Norway and Germany. Norway is where my Grandfather, now 91, is from.

5. Finish my books I've been writing.

6. Make amends with those in my family and old friends who have not gotten along with.

7. Tell the rest of the mo-fos to eat cat poop.

....

Y'all get the idea.

Nicely put. When ya put it out there, ya sometimes think...fuck! kick ya toe, why did I do that for! but that summary @Gloomy Inks nails it as to why I kinda took a punt to throw some shit in as well.

Yeah, we don't know exactly what we're dealing with on line at the best of times, but I kinda feel we're in pretty good company here. I only fit in with one type of people, our kinda people.

Dudes I'll probably never ever meet in person here have still pointed me in the direction in sourcing out shit for my bikes and stuff. Taken the time to send a PM to steer me in the right direction. That's genuine shit, so I'm just being genuine back. @Gloomy Inks again, you got a real good disposition with your shit man. I was reading your blog, and that's strength brother! You have much more than most going on dude.

Sweet.

Oh, and if ya ever on the East Coast of Aus. Let me know, my shout at the bar.

Ya never know.. Australia? I'll travel around the world for a good beer anytime! You don't still have to drink in hotels there do ya?

Yes mate, we do. But I don't frequent bars where the mainstream hang out mate, only where decent motherfuckers hang where folks don't give a fuck.

It's either that or under the stars on a motorcycle run with a few trusted ones.

OK. You got me now. You ride? What does it take to ride as a tourist there? I've always been slightly scared of Australia, what with the snakes, spiders, those worms that bite the soles of you feet, the dingos... and those kangaroos. I'm scared of 'em I mean, you think, "Oh how cute!"

Then they pummel you, take your money and shove it in their pockets and VOOOOOM! Gone.

Yes. A HD Wide Glide and recently just purchased a '78 Trumpy Tiger.

Actually cruised over today to see how the Trumpy is going...we're waiting for a dude to give us the go ahead for Australian compliance. An easy one 'cause it's all original, but because it's a pre '82, we gotta pay something like an extra 100 dollars for some kind of another bullshit inspection from some dude who'll probably just pocket the dough, but they got us cause it's a '78, but we should have it on the road this Friday.

Here's a link to international requirements in NSW, but each state should be very similar...ish.

International drivers and riders < New residents of NSW < Licensing < Roads and Maritime Services

Yeah, we got some nasty, aggressive fuckers slithering around...then ya got the wild life!

No shit, I was belting my Glide through the hills a few weeks back. Came down the bottom side of the range and hit this nice wide sweeper.

As I hit the corner leaning in, here was this fuckin 4 foot something King Brown snake taking up half the road, my side.

We had a shit load of rain, and today the sun was shining around mid day. Perfect for the KB to enjoy the rays on a warm road. Not a person or vehicle in sight, then all of a sudden here comes this bike banging round the bend.

Any fkn way, I shit, counter steered to the right to try miss the fucker, cause the last thing I wanted was the fucker hooking up under the bike ya know?

I tell ya, when shit happens, funny how quick you can react at times.

Anyway, missed the fucker by that much, but what spun me the fuck out was, the same time this snake whiplashed back and went to strike me. I shit you not...I was that close to the fucker for a 100th of a second, I could see it's fkn mouth open going for the strike as I pumped past.

Now, as I've mentioned...ya can never let the truth get in the way of a good yarn...but that shit was true as I'm typing.

Those king Browns fuckin' kill man.

Good times.

I sold my BMW (don't laugh, I got it on the cheap) before I started my old shop. Miss those days with the wind in my hair and bugs in my teeth. Thanks for the link, you might think I'm joshing with you, but a ride through NSW sounds awesome. Those inspection guys are like that here too. They do inspection in my state, Florida, unless they are after you for something else, then they just use it as pretext for a search.

How is the tattoo scene there? Funny, much as know about it here and Europe, I don't know much about it down there. Seems like a google search will be the first thing I do when I get up.

There's tattooed motherfuckers everywhere here in Australia. Loads of tattoo conventions and stuff like,

Surf & Ink, Rites Of Passage, Australian Tattoo & Body Art Expo in Sydney & Melbourne, Australia Day Tattoo Convention, Logan Tattoo & Art Exhibition...that's just off the top of my head.

I'll be honest, I've been to a couple of conventions, but I ain't a big fan. It's too commercial like for my liking.

I use to like the Tattoo Shows put on by Motorcycle Clubs, but up here in Qld, they've shut all the Clubs, Clubhouses & events down...but that's a different story

What I would really like to do though is hit a convention overseas...like maybe the London or NY Convention, just to say I have, plus a good excuse to jump on a plane & fly the fuck out of here for a bit. Mind you, I can't leave this place for too long. I dig the isolated beaches, camping in sand dunes and the ability to organise our runs to out of the way places. Actually was just sorting our next run with one of the boys tonight in October.

Actually, another one of the boys just returned yesterday from the States doing some big ride over there.

I'll have to catch him this week and get the low down.

Northern NSW is furkin awesome riding. We had a run through there a couple months back. Just 2 days on the road, an overnighter in the dunes.

Haha...wasn't til the morning we noticed the beware of snakes signs plastered all over the place. But fkn nice...day 1 we're banging the coast lines camping the dunes, day 2 we're pumping through the mountains hanging out with the Hippies in Hippie towns...mind you, they didn't like us rolling in...but where there's pub, there's beer.

Shit, you're making me want to come to Australia. I don't even ride (yet) but a bike is next on the list, when I can work it in between long overdue tattoos and my mission to pay off my car as fast as possible. That sounds like a hell of a time though!

Having to take graduate summer courses just to try and finish up quicker.

I work at a bank and I have a feeling within the next 3 years we are going to be sold.

So with that, i'm trying to finish up graduate school within the next 2 years.

This is my 3rd class in. 11 left.

I got a really creepy text this afternoon from a guy who has been long distance stalking me for four years, but who I thought I had successfully dodged for good in January. Had to block new iterations of him on everything. Gross gross gross.

People like that that need to get acquainted with Mr. Baseball-bat for sure! Hope you can get him out of your life soon!
