I recently had a half sleeve done.  It is my first large tattoo.  The regret, and panic I feel after getting this tattoo has been crushing to me.  I am not an emotional person so this is strange behavior for me.

Is this normal? Not normal?

I am trying to reason with myself to find something about the tattoo that I love and I can't.  I feel like I am talking myself further down the rabbit hole and almost into a depression over it all.

I know people that have experienced this, especially when it is a large or highly visible tattoo. You've drastically changed the way you look, so your brain has to "re-define" how it pictures your body. This can often lead to some temporary distress or anxieties. All my friends who have experienced this felt better after your brain gets used to your new look and self image.

Hope that helps!

I ve not been here for long but it seems this feeling is very common and i would go as far as considering it as part of the overall healing process

Most likely time will have you deal with that feeling before you know it

I've never had this happen personally, but I've seen a lot of people online talking about similar feelings. I'm sure you'll get over it eventually. If people can learn to carry on with life after getting an amputation or 3rd degree burns, you can get used to a tattoo. (Sorry if that sounds harsh, but the human brain is surprisingly adaptable.) If you still hate it in a few years, maybe you can get it lasered off? But that's seriously doubtful.

    • First let me say I've never seen exactly that related to tattoos. Second, I am NOT a doctor, so take any advice with a grain of salt and follow it at your own risk. I do have something like that which appears on my face from time to time. After multiple visits to the dermatologist, which didn't fix it, I finally came up with my own treatment. Whenever it flairs up, I just wipe the area down with plain rubbing alcohol three or four times a day to keep it dry. That usually works within a couple of days. Again, I'm not a doctor, but I don't think it would hurt anything for you to try that. Good Luck.
    • Hey, I have a serious problem! I got a tattoo in Manila 4 weeks ago. The artist is very well known and is one of the most renowed. 2 day after tattooing, small pimples began to form on my thight an many at the tattoo. 3 days later i had fever at night (just at night). After that, the pimpels began to spread very quickly all over the body. (back stomach etc..) I have now been to 3 doctors and everyone is at a loss. The blood work is fine and with no anomalies. Antibiotic ointment and cortisone ointment did not help. Xyzall allergy tablets did not help either. When i took cortisone tablets, 90% of the pimpels disappeared on the tattoo, but not on the other parts of the body. Now that I´am no longer taking cortisone, the pimpels on the tattoo are starting to grow back again very quick. On the other parts of the skin , the pimpels are sometimes lighter and sometimes stronger. This can be change hourly. They don´t hurt and hardy lever itch. Of course I´am afraid of a tattoo allergie. Has anyone already had this problem ? Does anyone know what that could be ? I add photos: 1) Photo directly after tattooing. 2) 2 Photos with the pimpels after a week 3) After 3 weeks while taking cortisone. 4) Photo of the body on the left.
