i've always been a big fan of what the artists at Smith Street NY have been doing. After watching Part 1 of Tattoo Age, what i got out of the episode just affirms what i like so much about these guys, and more. if episode 1 is any sign of how this Tattoo Age series is going to be, then i am absolutely stoked about it.

Love Steve Boltz sentiments about "custom " work ,I want a design that everyone has cause its a tried and trusted classic .I was meaning to include custom in the irritating slang terms ,for me its right up there with free-hand .

Great shit Dan does! Dan talks about Outsider art and I agree that it shows in his stuff. When I first got into Dan Higgs, I immediately recognized the same aura as in outsider art. In the museum I work in, we have pretty big Outsider art exhibition. Called ITE-Art. ITE-Taide in Finnish. Same crude, childlike stuff.

The third episode barely covers tattooing and it's the best one yet. I'm hoping the other artists they feature are as humble and personable as Dan.

It's mostly about his store, his antiquing and his collecting.

He used to collect StarWars toys.... I like him more already!

Got the preview link this evening from the lovely Juliette- Shawn's right, it's really great! Dan comes across as someone who's really humble and who cares a lot about what he does, rather than having the whole "rock star attitude" people are used to with other shows, and I think it's really awesome.

Seconds that, it was awesome to see the things he collected and then seeing them in old photos, gives you goosebumps.

A great way to showcase tattoo history without being boring or lecturing, an appreciation of where it comes from.
