    Marcus Kuhn's New Project

I believe TAM is only helping with advertising. New Era has been brought on as a sponsor. Episode 2 will be up tomorrow! should be a good one, it has to do with the WW2 era and the beginning of tattooing as an 'industry'

  5. what are your thoughts on the use of slang and terms that folks use to try and make tattooing sound cool? as an example i don't like the use of the terms tat, tats, or tatted up. i think that the word tattoo is cool enough and has always had a certain power to it. there's not really a need to attempt to make it sound cooler or clever by shortening it or adding z's instead of s's. i don't like gun for a tattoo machine either, but do find it amusing when people use it and sometimes i'll say "do you mean a tat gat?" so are there terms that you do or don't like as well as does it give you an idea of the type of person you're talking to when you hear them use certain slang?

  6. I've been looking at a lot of tattoo cover-up pictures recently and figured it'd be cool to see what cover-ups LSTers have both gotten as well as tattooed. So if you have before and after pictures please post them up. Here's a recent one I found on Sarah Schor's Blog from King's Avenue in New York. I really like the use of the hair in this lady head to cover-up the old tattoo lettering. For me I enjoy seeing cover-ups that could stand on their own without being a cover-up. What I mean is yes the old tattoo is not visible but had you not had to have it placed where it is you would get in anywhere and anyways. Lets see 'em.......

  8. I want to turn PECKer's interview into a drinking game, in which you take a drink every time you hear the word "Tat" or "LSD"

  9. There is a really wonderful tattoo by Valerie that isn't up anymore, so instead I will go for second place, which is a tattoo from back in March by Thomas Hooper. It's probably not objectively his best tattoo of the year, but I really love the choice of subject for this chest piece. It is a far less obviously aggressive animal choice than you tend to get on chest pieces, which is great because swans are as hard as fucking nails. I like the wing positions and it's webbed feet.

  10. Hahaa! I forgot about the armband thing. In the last few years the number of people asking for hand/neck tattoos when they have (insert single digit number here) tattoos has increased to the point I've considered bringing back the 'illegal' story. Taking 20 minutes to explain to a whiny teenager why the world isn't fair, twice or more every day? Or taking 20 seconds to tell them it's illegal? Tempting, for sure. So we just say "Sorry, we don't do them" Which is more fun than you'd expect, especially as I get to say it while I'm tattooing someone else's hand/neck. @ShawnPorter Brevity is the soul of wit.

  12. Armbands that connect are bad luck. Variation: Armbands that connect can cut off the circulation and your arm will fall off. Face/hand/neck tattoos are illegal. I always feel bad posting right after Stewart. He goes into so much detail that it makes my two sentence posts seem lazy. Perhaps by mentioning this fact it will add a little bit of 'meat' to my post and make it seem like I have more than a ten word vocabulary.

  15. What bugs me when people poach is it hurts the rest of us. I enjoyed looking at Valerie's blog and seeing her work evolve. Sometime ago the entries slowed and I understand why. You aren't original if you want someone else's EXACT tattoo or if you trace it and apply it to someone else.

  16. Funny how Kmyta uses the copyright symbol and watermarks all over his website. It looks as if the Vargas rip-off is tattooed on his wife who also works at the shop:

  17. My cover up went from this: to this: Because the original tattoo had a lot of black in it, and colours all over the place, I honestly had no idea if it would work out but figured I'd ask anyway. I am pretty farkin happy to say the least!!! (and yes that is Venom lol)

  23. y'know, i like the squid pant's name for leg tattoos. i don't even like the term sleeves for arm tattoos. sure there are proper sleeves worked out on someone as a full arm tattoo. but if i'm out somewhere and somebody says, "ooh, can i see your sleeves?" i think, "fuck off, retard", unless it's a hot girl, but i would still think she is stupid, but i would use her stupidity as an edge to get her to sleep with me. because you have to be pretty stupid to sleep with me. and customers that come in for a "sleeve", or thinking "i want to get a tattoo here and turn it into a sleeve someday", annoy me to. they're just tattoos.

  24. I'll pinprick that som'bitch on you man. Free of charge. That will make me a tattooer and I can use jargon with full autonomy! The original art is available for $5000, but for you... for you I can sell it for $0.47

  25. exactly, although I'd love to watch a random's reaction if you said "What's up tat-wizard, tryna get those squid pants!" to them hahaha. Another exaggerated example would be two friends who call each other degrading names at a bar. No big deal, but if an outside 3rd person comes up and calls one of them an asshole the 3rd person is gonna get clocked pretty fast.

  26. I agree with Julio, its like racial slang. If you aren't part of the race, you can't use the word. In other words , if you aren't black , you shouldn't be dropping N bombs.

  27. "gun" for a machine is really the only thing that bothers me. I like to use the term "work" for tattoos. Kind of a broad definition refering to "work of art" and just plain "work" because getting and giving tattoos is work.
    1 point
  28. All those terms are fine by me.... As long as a tattooer is using them. If the person doesn't tattoo and uses them, I wanna smash their head down into their neck. I'm a jerk

  29. Another great collection by the look of things Avery ! Perfect sizing on that Eagle ,i've attached another along the same lines by Bert Krak ,think the solitary Eagle is super strong . So many good Eagles but my favourite piece of Eagle art is Scott Sylvias picture .This is just crying out for a back to adopt it . I love Chad Koeplingers birds too Lochlan especially his talons which often are supersized .
