  4. Thread locked! We do not discuss finances, tips, or green soap budget for that matter here @anomaly1964. Read the newbie guidelines, and please try to read between the lines instead of looking for loopholes. I'm sure you had an idea of how a question like that would be welcomed here. If you don't respect our guidelines you are more than welcome to leave.

  6. Yeah, the worst part is already done. The rest is way more tolerable. Here's my new tattoo by Unmon at LTW (Barcelona). Line by machine, shading using tebori (holy shit is it slow!) A classical samurai and oni fighting. One session out of 3. Next one will be on september 9th

  8. If a tattooer charges $X per hour, he usually takes home $Y after paying a Z% shop cut. It's simple algebra, I'm sure you can extrapolate from there.

Todays action. Tibet dagger-thing, or it could look like some other things depending on your imagination capacity. By super great guy Adde Ramstedt - - - Updated - - - @RickSanchez Seek out Michael Aul and have him conjure up something based on that photo, I bet he'd make it work.

  12. Read this: WHO calls for urgent action to preserve power of antibiotics and make new ones | Society | The Guardian I'm not a fan of antibiotics unless your limb is about to fall off, too many doctors prescribe them happily for little reason, specially when it comes to tattoos that they think look 'infected'. the more you take antibiotics the more they wont work when you really are in a life threatening situation. your tattooer (if reputable) will always know more about this stuff than a doctor, it is weird that it looks like this 16 days on but i'd keep what youre doing up. Keep it clean and dry untill it begins to feel better. Many moons ago i had a very problematic foot tattoo on myself, it took over 4 weeks for it to be fully healed, and some times it takes a longer than expected and sometimes it looks worse than others. Take care!

  13. Tons of people do want to know. And you know what? IT'S NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS EITHER. I have close friends that I've known literally my entire life that I don't tell things like this. I also don't tell them why my machines run differently than one another, or what makes one type of pigment different from another, or anything else that's a part of my trade that is none of their business. Drop the question, learn to know that some things aren't your business, and move on to the next topic. I'm sure it'll be enlightening and full of great contributions. - - - Updated - - - And to quit being obtuse and give you an answer, the average tattooer charges between $50 and $500 an hour. After paying a shop cut of between 1% and 99%, they usually take home between $15.78 and $3,000,000,000,000 a year, before taxes.

Not. A. clue. Actually I'm hoping Jill can help me narrow it down to what works best with what I already have. I think I'll go munewari style though. So far I narrowed it down to: 1) Paired Tennyo 2) Dueling Tengu 3) Myth of Izanami-no-Mikoto & Izangi-no-Mikoto (Shinto creation of Japan story). 4) Myth of the god Susanoo-no-Mikoto battling Yamata no Orochi (8 headed/8 tailed dragon). 5) 2 Deities. No idea which but peaceful soothing looking ones rather than aggressive Myo-o type. My Shinto/Buddhist diety knowledge sucks. 6) Pairing 2 (of 4) armor clad Heavenly Kings, buddhist protectors of the 4 directions. Similar to the Chinese dragon, phoenix, tiger, tortoise/snake idea. I already have a dragon (east) and a phoenix (south) on my arms so possibly Tamonten (Bishamonten), Guardian of the North & Komokuten, Guardian of the West. 7) A solitary Bishamonten incarnation as Tobatsu Bishamonten depicted in the 3 headed 10 armed version riding atop a lion but how that would work in munewari format, I'm not sure. Of course I could just go full torso (but with no background) with Tobatsu Bishamonten or Yamato-no-Orochi. How cool would that be to have an 8-headed dragon chest piece! Boom!!! There's probably one other idea I'm forgetting right now but after she rolls her eyes at my indecisiveness, I'm hoping Jill can say,"These work, those don't, I really like this one the best.". She didn't much like my original subject thoughts because she felt it would dilute the strength of my back piece subject.

1 shot Zeis Tiger/Snake by Jason Phillips at FTW in Oakland, CA. Jason slays both Japanese and American traditional. If you're ever in the Bay Area, you should definitely book an appointment with him. So happy with how this turned out. So glad I don't ever have to tattoo my chest ever again.

  18. Hi all, I'm a self confessed tattoo virgin currently planning my first tattoo down here is sunny NZ. I've wanted a tattoo for a while but to be honest I've found the whole journey a little intimidating, I feel I hit on what I really wanted about 12 months ago and I've spent that that time NOT getting that tattoo in order to make sure it's something I really want. In the meanwhile, I was inspired by reading Magpie Hall (and NZ novel about tattoos) and Bodies of Subversion (a fantastic non fiction book about women and tattoos)... I'm a librarian, can you tell? Anyhow, I've found it quite hard to find quality advice around tattoos, not being part of the typical tattoo crowd (though I'm starting to learn there's no such thing). Looking forward to tapping into the gold mine of info on LST!

  27. That's for that tattoo artist to know, and for no one else other than maybe their employer to find out. One of the very first rules of this forum is not discussing money as far as how much people charge for a tattoo... this question is by far rude and out of bounds. If some random person at Burger King asked for a copy of your tax return, would you take kindly to it? Honestly, if I were a mod, I would lock/delete this thread as soon as seeing it, and let you know how thin of ice you'd be treading on for asking this question. And to give a slight hint as to an answer, not as much as they charge you up front. No matter what they take home per hour (which is nowhere close to what you're charged), they also have to buy their own equipment (which isn't cheap, if it's good), provide transportation if they travel a lot, pay for any insurance they may have (health, car, etc.), etc. etc. etc. You don't get rich as a tattooer... Hardly any even get to be well off. Just varying levels of comfort, if you're fortunate.

Jealous AF. Two of my faves. Valerie appointments seem unattainable so I've just given up all together, and pray for a chance occurrence that I can snag a spot with her someday. Getting my knee ditches finished by Jeff Rassier. Then I should be done getting tattooed for the year. Maybe.

  30. I don't know if this is awesome or shitty or not but... this morning I get up, get ready for work, then decide to bleach the rubber bath mat that's discolored. So, in a cup of bleach goes into the tub with some water to cover. Next thing I know, one of the cats has his front paws IN THE TUB WITH BLEACH-Y WATER, sees me then starts to run away. I had to catch him, wipe his paws down (and everywhere he walked, thankfully hard surfaces), then hold him over the bathroom sink and rinse his paws off. He's the squirmiest cat I've ever known, so it was interesting. I decide that the cat's paws need a second cleaning after seeing him lick one, then run to the water dish and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink. So, in his paws go again into a bunch of water. It was a fun morning... Cat's fine, no problems, still alive, all that good stuff. You can't make this stuff up. Here's to hoping this weekend is actually relaxing.

  31. Personal meaning is not necessarily etched in the design. That CR skull & flames BrianH posted early in the piece, go for something along those lines, slammed fkn solid in that forearm. Then you can say it was a matrix inspired tattoo. WHOA no one will know what the fuck ya talking about. Cool [emoji106]

As I was leaving Walmart tonight there was a older gentleman named Art running carts/security. He was happy to tell us all about getting these done on the west coast in the '40s. The rope was to protect him from drowning, and he's happy with how solid the panther still is.

Heres a couple of mine. These were done 1970/71 when I was 15/16. The skull, my first ever tattoo is over 40 years old. The reds have gone from both of them but they are in pretty good nick considering. The artist was a guy called Steve who had a shop in the city of Bath, England. I think it was in Broad Street. Don't know what became of him. No appointments or bringing in artwork in those days. All walk ins. You just sat and waited your turn. The clients were bikers, skinheads and low lifes like me. I remember him tattooing and smoking rollups.
