Yeah I went and looked up some stuff after my last post. I had forgotten about the repetitive behaviour and not being able to grasp certain concepts or activities part.

I read a really interesting novel that you might like since you work with autistic kids. It's called The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-time. It's written from the point of view of an autistic teenager who finds his neighbour's dog dead on their lawn. It was really interesting and opened my mind up about autism which I knew nothing about before reading it.

Yeah, I read that when it came out and I have to say that it did a HUGE amount to educate people (including myself) about certain aspects of autism. The fact of the matter is that books and films tend to focus on high-functioning autism such as Asperger's because it can lead to almost miraculous skills (as shown in Rain Man), whereas the normal day-to-day lives for most autistics is more problematic, particularly spatial and 'face reading' issues. I don't work with autistic students anymore but I remember how much certain aspects of their lives improved because of how popular that book was.

that video made me cry waterfalls!!! i love that part when the lady and Oden are face to face, it was so sweet! then when the guy was in the car and he was saying jesus was gonna give him 4 perfect legs. :( :( just telling me a dogs going to die and my eyes start to well up, but when it comes to people i just dont have the same reaction. when i was choosing my career in high school i did a couple internships and i worked at vet clinic one semester because i wanted my whole life to be a vet tech and work with animals. I had to be there for a couple euthinizations and it was so hard to watch especially when the owners didnt care enough to show up! i ended up switching to baking(my second love) because i saw the attitude, demenor, etc. of these ladies that were training me. i saw my self being like that in 10-15 years and thats not what i wanted.

Rask- thanks for posting those beautiful pictures of your cat! your patients for sure paid off getting that photo of her mouth! soooo cool!!

I have one name tattooed on me, Astraea is my (our) beautiful 2 year old husky shepherd mix. She is my best friend and like my bebe (until a real one shows up!) and we love her very much. I am hoping to have Baba tattoo her portrait on me next year at the SF convention. I'll post a pic of her name in my gallery. :) Dog is Love! I have an entire upper back piece planned as a memorial to 4 of my pets, all of whom had "astro" names - Luna, Orion, Comet, & Astraea. BoJangles the dog of my youth will have to get memorialized in another way... and he will, at some point. ;)

I'm trying to get some more ideas for a tattoo of our cat, Zola. She is a black/white tuxedo cat, lived in the shelter for 4 years, and incredibly sweet. I know a lot of cat owners say this, but she is unlike any other cat I've met. Not so independent, never scratches/bites, she doesn't even meow, more like a cooing/purr-meow sound. She's a pretty cuddly little thing, only 7.5 pounds.

I asked my artist to tattoo her but I can't think of what kind of things I'd want to have in the tattoo with her. She's such a simple girl, looks out the window, sleeps, plays with hairbands, eats, sleeps, sleeps, etc. I'm thinking of having him turn her into an egyptian goddess but I'm kind of scared to ask for an "egyptian" style tattoo. I thought about having him turn her into a traditional "mean" looking panther, aka a panther with tuxedo cat markings, but he didn't seem too into it.

I've got a few months before the appointment so I'm sure I'll figure it out.

I love this thread. My girls:

This is Daisy. She's a retired racing greyhound and is the sweetest, laziest dog ever. We adopted her from a greyhound rescue about a year and a half ago and watching her go from being this dog that had never lived in a home before to being this sweet little girl who just wants cuddles from everybody she sees (except for children, she is afraid of them) has been one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced in my life.

And this is Susan (grey one) and Willa (orange one). They're sisters. We adopted them from friends of friends who took in a pregnant stray off the street. She gave birth to four kittens. We couldn't decide which one we wanted so we got two. The guys who took in their mother from the street read somewhere that the best way to socialise kittens is to hold and touch them from birth so they have none of the usual cat aloofness and you can pick them up and cuddle them and rub their bellies and basically do whatever you want with them. Willa regularly shits outside of the litter box because she's an asshole.

my dog, zoe, is getting old. She is going to be 13 or 14 this year but she is having that off and on days type of life now. She is a Bichon Frise and they can live longer than larger dogs so I hope she does have a few more years left. I was considering a tattoo of her. I don't know if I want just her name or an actual portrait of her w/ name.

My family's first dog was a german shepherd and she passed when I was 11. She was one of my best friends growing up and I've loved dogs ever since. Right now my family has a bichon frise. I really want to get a dog of my own but my apartment building does not allow animals. I recently got a portrait of my german shepherd in the inside of my arm.

    • First let me say I've never seen exactly that related to tattoos. Second, I am NOT a doctor, so take any advice with a grain of salt and follow it at your own risk. I do have something like that which appears on my face from time to time. After multiple visits to the dermatologist, which didn't fix it, I finally came up with my own treatment. Whenever it flairs up, I just wipe the area down with plain rubbing alcohol three or four times a day to keep it dry. That usually works within a couple of days. Again, I'm not a doctor, but I don't think it would hurt anything for you to try that. Good Luck.
    • Hey, I have a serious problem! I got a tattoo in Manila 4 weeks ago. The artist is very well known and is one of the most renowed. 2 day after tattooing, small pimples began to form on my thight an many at the tattoo. 3 days later i had fever at night (just at night). After that, the pimpels began to spread very quickly all over the body. (back stomach etc..) I have now been to 3 doctors and everyone is at a loss. The blood work is fine and with no anomalies. Antibiotic ointment and cortisone ointment did not help. Xyzall allergy tablets did not help either. When i took cortisone tablets, 90% of the pimpels disappeared on the tattoo, but not on the other parts of the body. Now that I´am no longer taking cortisone, the pimpels on the tattoo are starting to grow back again very quick. On the other parts of the skin , the pimpels are sometimes lighter and sometimes stronger. This can be change hourly. They don´t hurt and hardy lever itch. Of course I´am afraid of a tattoo allergie. Has anyone already had this problem ? Does anyone know what that could be ? I add photos: 1) Photo directly after tattooing. 2) 2 Photos with the pimpels after a week 3) After 3 weeks while taking cortisone. 4) Photo of the body on the left.
