  3. Thanks @hogg I am in awe of how it is turning out. Like you said the pain is worth it. I still enjoy it when you get home after a session and wash all the crud and shit off the new work and see the art progressing. For me that is about a 2-3 hour drive so by that time I am ready to see the latest progress. Is what keeps me going knowing that it looks great 1/2 done so imagine what it will look like when complete. The thing I love about serious work like a backpiece is that everyone who gets them doesn't do it on a whim and is prepared to commit to a big undertaking. They do the research, they spend the time and work out the artist best suited for them and the style of work they want. Because of all that research that they get an awesome piece of art. I have said it in previous post and will say it again, Since I have started my backpiece I now have alot more respect for people that get extensive work.

  5. Another progress shot. Did a bit of colour as I didn't fancy having new work on both sides of arse and thighs at the same time. I can't wait till we get away from the arse and thigh area. :(

  7. 3.5 hours last night. One more short session to finish, but I plan on expanding it so who knows how long it will take to be completely done. My mom took me last night b/c my husband was on duty for a summer "fest" our little town started putting on...this year Florida Georgia Line is here so last night there were over 16,000 people out at the fields...our town is maybe 5,000 population. Mom seemed pretty fascinated by the whole process, and really enjoyed visiting w/the artist. I'm quite certain she didn't expect the shop to be as nice as it is, and didn't expect the artist to be as friendly and talkative as he is. Not sure I can ever get it into her head to get a tattoo but it would be cool...maybe when I get my tree frog reworked she'll be more on board w/it.

  8. I feel tattoo schools belong in the same category as fortune tellers, ghost hunters and colon cleansers. It's all a big hustle, and it's literally better to just throw your money out the window.

  9. I loved this design when I saw the illustration. (I don't have Instagram, but I hope it's not creepy that I sometimes look up people here who do art, etc.) I'm not an artist, but when I look at @cltattooing's work it feels fresh and cohesive in a way that isn't that common and must be really hard to work at and achieve.

  10. This happened yesterday. @cltattooing did an awesome job, had a really fun experience. Super fun shop, great people all around. Thanks again Carolyn! It was great to meet you and I'm super pumped with my tattoo! (Hopefully this works right. I suck with technology)

    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

Hi guys!! For those who have not seen on Instagram, I was a dumbass and scheduled three days of getting zapped on my last trip to SF. That shit is hard on the body!!!!! @cltattooing made an awesome stabby skull for me, and then we hung out w @CABS, who is an alright type of guy (understatement of the season!). Junii added color to my froggy, some shading and background and outlined a peony on my thigh. We started the first snake! Matt (dr claw) started on my serene butt snake. Shad will be starting the mean back snake in October, and Junii is doing the thigh snake (I think?!) I was not the only one getting my butt drilled (word choice?) in the shop that day. I had the pleasure of watching Drew Flores begin one of the backpieces that is part of the 108 heroes of LA project. How cool is that?!? Also @petiloi was in the shop getting some work done by Bill Salmon. Hi!!! I did not identify myself bc, you know, tattoos. But it was cool anyway! Pics attached. Warning: Butt ahead!! (Nice asp, I know. Tips hat to @CultExciter for that one).

  14. Found this site while I was looking up tattoo aftercare...impressive. I too have been using the new technique of Tagaderm film and after reading some of the posts I know I am on the right path. After using it one time, I will NEVER heal a tattoo any other way!! I am healing 2 new ones right now...making this number 5 that I have healed using the film. Although I am not where near as advanced as some of you, I AM 2/3 of the way done with my "sleeve" on my left arm, along with 7 other pieces on various parts of my anatomy. Going to read more posts now....thanks for allowing me to join!!

  16. that panther is awesome and probably the kids (being kids) woulda said whoah! cool! but i respect your reasons for covering - i work in a primary school and i stay covered (long pants on field day!) for a few different reasons - most importantly keeping said job :) edit: and glad you had a good time at the camp - i have a 12,9,7 and the grow quick - we gotta take what we can get while they can stand being around us!

  17. Got back home yesterday after a week long kid's camp. My oldest son attends and so for the last 5 years I've volunteered so I'm there to support him if he needs it. I am pretty tired and I have very little voice left, but I have no regrets. On a (very slightly) less awesome note, I wore long pants all week in case any of the children were frightened of panthers; and to avoid offending any of my fellow volunteers (it's a christian camp).

    So... Ideas please!

I was sort of in the same place as you a few years ago, and I eventually decided to not extend my 3/4 and just get something completely different on my forearm. I think it's going to look fine either way, as long as you get tattooed by someone who does solid work. Good luck!

  19. I dunno if that's creepy or not @polliwog but if it makes you feel any better, I do it too. So maybe were both creeps..

  20. So by "enjoying it more again" you mean you just aren't screaming in your mind as loudly? I'm sitting in the chair waiting for the drilling to begin. Love handles down to the waist and upper butt tonight. Oh joy.

  21. Just to add to the discussion of "it's different for everyone;" before we started my torso, Chad told me my belly would be the worst spot, so he'd work his way down there. When we took a little break to pour more ink and spin me around for the other side, Joe was looking sympathetic and says "that head must've been rough, I remember getting tattooed in that spot." So, there's two tattooers and all the anecdotal information I've read on here saying I should have been miserable when my belly was being lined, but I had a much harder time with my chest and shoulders. Granted, the whole thing was rough, wish I could have slept better the night before.

  26. Soooo, I was trying to take an all-things-tattoo-hiatus until October but the boys were getting tattooed so I thought "Oh, I'll just get a little gap filler from Paul" (like I did the previous day with Bryan Randolph)...and this happened. No really, I can stop whenever I want... Paul Anthony Dobleman - Spider Murphy's Tattoo, San Rafael, CA

  27. Been a while since ive checked back on here but heres a few pics of the panther and the parrot i got from Chad K at the Amsterdam convention back in May, its really hard to get a good picture of a shoulder but Chad drew the parrot to fit the space perfectly. Also a Mum heart i got as a walk in from Jordan Baxter at Black Garden a couple of weeks back, picture pinched from his instagram.

    Face/Head Tattoo

dad walked into charlies shop with his cowboy and indian forearm tats, and his upper arms ( angel and eagle ) and his kilroy on his lower belly area...in ten days charlie did dads chest, some arm work and the backs of both hands. dad sat in his chair for most of every day the shop was open in that ten day stretch. when he told charlie that he wanted the hands done, Charlie talked to him for thirty minutes before he was comfortable to do them. he was 23 at the time. charlie ended up putting multiple photos of dad in his bins full of flash and photos...

  33. Completely off topic here. Remember when my brother (RIP) had his DRI tattoo smashed into his bicep. That night, he's in the pit at a local HC gig. Some dude literally dug his nails into his tattoo and virtually ripped the fuckin thing from his skin. After I shook my head in compete disbelief that Robbie was even in the pit to begin with, the damage to that tattoo was unbelievable. And nails, should of seen the infection that set in. It healed an absolute mess. He thought it added character. I thought he was a fuckin idiot.

  34. I just take to the chair and let the tattooing begin, at the end of the session, I ask how much and fork over the cash. Some artists will give you a firm-fixed-price on a big piece, others won't. In the end most of us work well with artists that we've been with forever.

  35. I don't know whether this will help ya but, with all my work which has entailed long sittings, we work out design say for my back & I say quote me for the job for a one up front payment. Then I squirrel away what I need, then after the 1st sitting, I pay for the entire job. That way, money is only discussed once, and we can both concentrate on the job at hand without any other interference. Anyway, might not work for you nor your tattooer as it's hard to anticipate every factor regarding application along the way, plus...my tattooer I have known for years also, so he's happy to roll this way.

Bingo. While we're at it, why not hire the other 2 occupations that encompass ruling the world. We can hire a Lobbyist to petition for a place in line with a tattooist and a Banker to finance the work.

I agree with @Mick Weder and @SeeSea here and with regard to copyright, looking at pictures of Jun Cha's tattoos it looks like a lot of them draw on reference from Renaissance sculpture. Of course there's interpretation there, composing it to work as a tattoo, actually tattooing it, etc., but regardless it isn't like his tattoos spring purely from his imagination. When contracts and the possibility of lawyers is involved, it isn't really tattooing anymore to me.

QUOTE]rather than some bikie who couldn't give two fucks about the tattoo's just wants to collect his $$$ This, my friend... is a very bold statement. Some of the most honourable men I know may meet this judgemental opinion. I wouldn't walk into an art gallery if you paid me. It would bore me to tears. It appears very apparent that tattooing for you & I hold two completely different cultural origins. And with that, for respect to this forum, I shall leave this at that. Enjoy your art collection champ.

  44. In all fairness, dude probably isn't in to tattoos just wanted that one for his wife. It's not like he was going to cover it with a dragon or a panther. Even considering that the tattoo couldn't get any worse, I think the outcome was pretty good for the guy. To paraphrase Joe Dirt, It's not about you, it's about the consumer.
