  1. Another progress shot. Did a bit of colour as I didn't fancy having new work on both sides of arse and thighs at the same time. I can't wait till we get away from the arse and thigh area. :(

  5. Soooo, I was trying to take an all-things-tattoo-hiatus until October but the boys were getting tattooed so I thought "Oh, I'll just get a little gap filler from Paul" (like I did the previous day with Bryan Randolph)...and this happened. No really, I can stop whenever I want... Paul Anthony Dobleman - Spider Murphy's Tattoo, San Rafael, CA

  9. Selling supplies to the public defeats the purpose of what you say you're trying to accomplish with this school. Not that you care about it, but you're not allowed to solicit on the forum, which is just a small reason why people are responding the way they are. There's no point in trying to explain why people will think that you're an interloper.

  11. This will help there apprentices who will have a stronger knowledge base to pull from. I hope one of your two week students doesn't make the same mistake and put "there" on someone instead of "their" LOL I remember when I started tae kwon do my sabumnim said to us...... "In the first two weeks I can teach you some basic techniques to defend yourself and just enough to get you in trouble......BUT.....I can't teach you the discipline.....that takes much more time!" Again.....why is this still posted up?

  16. My dad also paints and about a year ago he gave me a bottle of liquin (it says it resists yellowing on the bottle) which I hadn't used until now. Mixing it with the white seems to have masked most of the yellowing. I'll see how it holds up as it dries, and maybe touch it up a little bit if necessary. I'm not sure that I like the liquin because it has this strange gel-like consistency, but maybe I'll play around with it a little and see what I can do with it until I make my next trip to the art store. Thanks for the advice though, it was really helpful.

I have a (short) session scheduled with Yoni for this fall! We're going to do a mandala coming out of the water, above the fishies and next to the lotus - on my right hip proper. I left it up to him to do what he wanted, couldn't be more thrilled with the suggestion. Too bad I have to wait until the fall!!!

  20. I started volunteering for a wild bird rescue center. It's literally a crappy job, but I love being around and interacting with the birds. Usually they are baby birds that fall out of nests, or birds that were injured by cats/dogs/cars. I get to clean cages, floors, aviaries as well as prepare food and maintain the facilities. Occasionally they'll have me help with the feeding and care of the birds. So far my favorites have been the hummingbirds. They'll buzz around your head because they're just naturally curious and not too fearful of humans. I also get to work with swallows, ducks, sparrows, finches, pigeons, doves, and quail. I do this for 4 hours per week and it's been very rewarding despite having to constantly clean up bird poop.

  23. Hey everyone, Obviously a newbie, figured I'd finally introduce myself. I'm originally from Quebec, Canada. Met my American wife back in 08, got married in 09 and have been in New Hampshire since 2010. She's always had tattoos and I always thought she looked amazing with them and finally decided to take the plunge about a year and a half ago when I began doing research for shops, artists that fit what I wanted to do. Been lurking on this forum and absorbing as much information as possible since then... Found the perfect artist a year ago and got on his waiting list, been sketching and saving reference pictures and ideas ever since... finally received the call a few weeks back and I'm finally booked for October 10th for the first session and a 2nd session on November 7th. I'm going all out, starting out as a 30 year old fresh canvas, I'm getting my entire left arm sleeved. The plan is to get the 2nd arm done pretty much as soon as the 1st one is all finished and healed up. Money's already saved up and ready to go, I don't think I've ever been this excited to hurt for anything else in my life. :D

If the outside of your upper arm is free I would go there and I'm sure your artist will as well. It's a pretty flat and easy to read surface. I have one there and also on the inside of my calves.

  26. Thanks guys! Henrik was super focused and I couldn't be happier. I got through one part of an old piers Anthony book during the session. there were a few times where he would get to the ass or the inside of the though and all of the words turned to "fuck fuck fuck" in my head.

So solid @Shaggy That spot can get tiresome. @hogg dropped some wisdom on me that I'd like to share. Use deep breathing like you are trying to blow out candles that are 30 feet away. My abs are usually exhausted after a session of breathing like that, but it works.

  32. Okay....you seem to be getting good tattoos by solid artists........ BUT.......slow down!!! I know.... "You won't give a shit what they look like when you are 50".....at least that's what I hear all the time.......but I promise you when you are 40 you will care! ;) I just am trying to pass some important advice on to you and like a lot you probably aren't going to listen BUT tattoos do age and if you take care of them and yourself then they age well! Just be smart please??? You are lucky.....most young ladies your age don't start off getting quality work! You're heading in the right direction......just slow down.....and be smart babe! Welcome to the forum!

    Painting Methods & Materials

Mineral spirits or distilled turpentine would be a good choice for thinning out, for sure. - - - Updated - - - I spent the better part of two years working on just the right gesso recipe for silverpoint drawing - many many tossed boards, lots of dust and bad gesso batches later, I finally have the recipe that works just right for me and my needs. It's going to take time, experimentation and research, that's for sure!

Thanks everybody, I am indeed stoked! Definitely a lot more taxing than all the one shots I've been getting on my arm. @mtlsam that's gotta be pretty close to the time-frame, I wasn't really watching the clock but I'm sure it was less than 2 hours after he finished drawing it on.

  36. Yeah, this is seemingly one of the most difficult things about painting with oils: not only is there the usual artistic stuff going on that makes any kind of drawing or painting hard at the best of times, but it practically seems like you need to be a fucking chemist in addition to all that to make sense of oils. I like the bleaching it with sunlight idea, though I'm wondering if it's just easier to paint over that part of it with either a more concentrated titanium white or have it diluted with turp instead of linseed oil. Great advice on the titanium dioxide vs zinc oxide/sulfide too. I've been thinking that I'm going to invest in some artist-quality Gamblin oils (seems that there's a good balance between price and quality there compared to other brands) and they have a titanium zinc white that might do the trick.

  37. A few days ago the Daily Fail rolled out yet another tired old article on why tattoos are no longer just for bikers and sailors yada yada. The lady whose photo it used (without her permission) with an impressively patronising caption ("Fortunately most women don't go as far as having a tattoo 'sleeve' covering their whole arm.") has blogged about it here: Needles and Sins Tattoo Blog | "World's Worst" ... Hello!

Iwar, yes I have several tattoos. I am from northern California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was actually in new orleans when I posted this. I did a search for places to get tattooed there and came up with electric ladyland tattoo. I went there with my wife and we both got tattooed there at the same time. I was done by Lester Garcia and she had Matty Runks. I have to say that it was a great shop and Lester did a great job. - - - Updated - - - This is the picture of the piece right after he was done. Still in the midst of healing now though.

  39. Social media being what it is, my mom saw a picture of the outline of my backpiece and while she wasn't as upset as I expected her to be (she doesn't like that I get tattoos, but she seems to respect that I get them because I like them), she wanted to know that this would be my last tattoo...but after a certain point what does it even matter?

Yes, so this happened! LST meet-up!!! Unfortunately Lance went back to JANM before Stella took our picture. I don't want to ruin @hogg's tough guy ban hammer reputation or anything, but what a great guy! Lance, too--but we already knew that. Great to see those tattoos in person, too.

    Advice on a cover-up

get two sessions of laser treatment, to lighten the tattoo. wait 6 months to let the skin settle, find a competent artist, and maybe get a rose tattooed over the top, classic, timeless, represents love and could possibly tie to growth etc. a colour tattoo will work way better to cover this design than a black & grey one. that's what i'd recommend

Check out this Kim Saigh tattoo, @mhapp95. It's got a lot going on -- but it's also a full back piece. If you want that much stuff incorporated into your tattoo you'll either have to go big or simplify IMO.

I've come to the conclusion that Hotline Miami has the best soundtrack of any game, ever. I just started it and for a top down, isometric game, it's gnarly as fuck. It's like Drive, if Ryan Gosling ate tonnes of acid and beat people to death for fun.

  48. I had pleasure to be tattooed two times on my leg by Bunshin Horitoshi, one in London Convention and another in her home-studio in Tokyo, is an amazing tattooer and very nice guy. Other young tattooers that I deeply admire are Horimomo and Bunshin Yozin (Yozin Irezumi facebook name), they make really strong and bold works.
