  1. I just got this gar from Mat Welch earlier today. I also got a little beer mug filler from Paul Holland while he was guesting here, but I don't have a picture. I'm pumped on 'em!

  3. Hey everyone, so I got the first session in on my qilin yesterday! Would've posted earlier, but I was exhausted and passed the fuck out after getting some food in me. It was originally going to go on my arm and back but Greg didn't count on my arm being that small and the stencil looked really squished. He talked me into going with my thigh and I'm so glad I listened to him! I was also a bit apprehensive about some things like color, but he firmly (but kindly) put his foot down and told me why my ideas would not make for a good tattoo so I finally canned it and let him do his job. Couldn't be happier with the result!! He's not too sure about the belly color yet (may go silvery blue or golden pink) but the hair will probably be ochre and we'll probably add some peonies in the third session. I could only get through about 4.5 hours before the shaking and shivering set in.

  15. These are my findings: Doing what you want to is cool and never a turn-off for the right person. I surveyed 1 person for this poll. 1 out of 1 agreed. The beardo in the other room would probably agree w/me too though. So let's just say 100% of the tattooed women and bearded men in this house were on board.

  17. @idyllsend When I was getting my back done, it was basically whatever I was comfortable with. They had no problem setting up the screen. As far as looking out the windows... well anyone peering in the windows got lucky. Reverse bathrobe is the best bet. For me I have a fundoshi and a towel. But I don't really have to worry about covering up boobs. @Ditch Belgium It's all relative. Fresh hits are the worst, but as soon as the area gets used to being tattooed, the pain eases up as you can acclimate to it.

  18. My wife and I both get tattooed, we give each other money/gift certificates for tattoos as well as saving our on money. I've been there each time she was tattooed but I've been tattooed several times alone. Being and getting tattooed is something I'm glad we share together.

  21. I was plainskinned when I first met my now wife, but we didn't start dating for a few years after that. She had one small and simple tattoo on her ribs, now has three, all simple outlines, which she loves. I've now got half squidpants (did we agree squidshorts was a thing?), one side of my ribs and both upper arms nearly filled. I feel really lucky to have someone in my life who appreciates them. We have always been supportive of each other's desire for more tattoos, as well as the divergent styles they often take. Today she was talking about a coherent upper arm (thanks @HaydenRose , best term IMO since squidpants) and I would love to go through that process with her. Hopefully one day she will be helping me cream my backpiece! Forget painting a house together, this is the stuff memories are made of 

Ooh, I would like to also suggest the Preacher series and "Air" by G. Willow Wilson. And Lynda Barry's Marlys and Freddie stories, which are published as approachable little books. The latter totally blew my mind recently. Lynda Barry is one of my all-time favorite humans. The Best American Graphic Novels thing that comes out every year offers a taste of many graphic novels, some of them pretty great. Have fun! You're making me want to read more comic books :)

  23. I posted something here, and then realized that I really don't want to feed this thread. But the gist is that, as a client, I only really want to see computers assist with tattooing if they're helping an injured tattooer do his or her job. The delete button is my friend.

I totally recommend: - Sandman, Persepolis and Maus (as already suggested) - 'Fun Home' by Alison Bechdel - Anything by Jason, 'Hey...Wait' is a good one - The 'Fables' series - The Mouse Guard series by David Petersen - 'American Born Chinese' by Gene Luen Yang - 'Shortcomings' by Adrian Tomine - 'Clyde Fans' by Seth - 'Ice House' by David Clowes - 'The Cleaners' by Mark Wheaton My partner suggests 'Y: The Last Man' and 'Saga' by Brian K Vaughan.

    Telling My Parents

I worried a lot about this same thing @Bexter , this Christmas the grandparents saw my sleeve and other tattoos, having had none the last time I saw them. Packed a lot of long sleeved shirts and flannels to hide them, out of respect; on the first day I was ratted out, and after they asked to see them, I was told "don't be ridiculous, go put a regular t-shirt on!" By both. Both are very proper British folks.

  26. Careful not to over-moisturize, although it is probably far enough along in the healing that it doesn't matter. Also, don't freak out. It'll probably stop being red. Tattoos bring out the nit-picky side of newer collectors, but you'll be fine, as @gougetheeyes mentioned.

In the last couple of weeks I've found myself beginning to look into graphic novels. I haven't read comics in more than 20 years, but a friend pointed me to a great one on Gettysburg. Does anyone have any recommendations for a neophyte comic reader?

Art was done by Sean Cliver Taz had a chance to buy the original art from him and Taz has been kicking himself for not doing it ever since....LOL - - - Updated - - - Art by Wes Humpston (Dogtown fame) Production deck is the one I skated by Bulldog Art on the right (I was just a cruiser....not a ripper) Hand Painted deck (on left) was done by Wes and given to me as a Wedding anniversary gift from Taz! A little late to the party but welcome @mickweder. Your backpiece is insane! I love it! Give Brissy my love! I live/worked there for 3 months once and it positively ruined me for mangos, blueberries and meat pies. Seriously, I don't eat mangos anymore...they just don't taste the same. :( All the best!

  35. Hahaaha this thread. I've been drinking too much (..forever) and now seriously toying with sobriety. Thank god my wife was there as my handler this weekend at a friend's wedding and got me back to our hotel before I could fight the entire place because my sunglasses went missing. Hello from London

Hi everyone! I'm German, in my late thirties and live in London. I've got nothing to show I'm afraid as I've got no tattoos as of yet. But I recently realised that all the reasons that kept me from getting a tattoo so far don't seem that valid for me anymore…so I started to do a lot of research and ended up lurking here. Pretty amazed by how much nice and cool stuff is out there. I think I'm mostly into neo-traditional stuff and I've absolutely fallen in love with one particular artist (well, her work, of course) who turns out to be as far as away from me as possible, argh. Looks like it may be a while until I actually get the tattoo I'm dreaming of right now. I guess in the meantime I will continue changing my mind ten times a day about whether to get something else sooner and if so, what to get ;-)

  38. It's not Breaking Bad ;) Meaning; it's not serialised. There isn't a story. It's in four parts because each part focuses on a different aspect of being part of FST (or being part of tattooing as a whole) Part One is the close knit family aspect. Part Two is the global 'community' and FST's position in it. Part Three is the people, roads and attitudes that led us to be where we are (wherever that is) and Part Four is focuses on what it is to dedicate your life to something. Each part was designed to stand on it's own. Each one has a slightly different feel. Already the people who've seen the rough cuts of them all have a favourite. Thanks to everyone for the interest. Special thanks to those who bought or rented it. I really appreciate it. The response has been way more positive than I thought. I feel I should say: it's probably not what you expect. It's not a moving gallery of tattoos and it's not an advertisement for tattooing or for FST.

  49. I got married to a tattooist and started tattooing when I was 19. He was heavily tattooed. I am now married to another tattooist who is even more heavily tattooed. I had a brief thing with yet another heavily tattooed tattooist. I think my tastes may be a bit skewed, but I am 50 now, and a heavily tattooed man is my standard for attractiveness. If I was single I couldn't imagine looking outside of my "community" for companionship. That's just what I find physically attractive and has nothing to do with whether I would like someone's personality though.
