For what it's worth I feel no animosity towards panthers. My thought process when thusly: "What's the toughest thing I could possibly get, so everyone can see how nails I am?" "I know, A Panther" "Wait, with a fucking dagger through it" and then that turned out to be too much tough for me to handle, so there's a butterfly as well: Seriously though, it looks cool. What more reason would you like?

i have a theory that some of the new users are really just @Pugilist in disguise posting about endless text/no outline/watercolor tattoos just to push @Graeme 's buttons. and then he angrily scrubs the dishes and cleans the house.

Good for you to take her in. We did the same with our Chloe, who we got at 4, she just turned 6. She was very skittish at first, but after a couple of weeks she got better. She's still developing as a pet, we find out new things that she likes to do all the time. One of her favorite toys is this fishing pole that has a ball and feather on the line, I get 2 in a package for $1. So when they get tattered, I break out a new one for her. Rob

i hate hearing tattooers being referred to as 'up and coming'. it's a toxic description that makes you treat them as such. Treat him as the tattooer that he is, and if you dont like how he's treating you, walk away. don't feel like you have to get tattooed by him in order to make sure you get there before he blows up big. Ive heard this same exact scenario so many times...and like i said, referring to anyone as up and coming will make you treat them differently and theyll pick up on it, and possibly take advantage. if hes being so dismissive thats also his fault, or he might truely have just double booked himself. i find managing booking appts online and thru the shop simultaneously means fuck ups happen. cool down, then maybe go back and have a chat about booking in and leaving a deposit.

One of the things I like about Doug Hardy's IG is the pictures of his cat going everywhere with him. To the beach, to the supermarket, to a restuarant, etc. That cat has so many adventures.

Have been enjoying this thread and while I have no new tattoos to show off, I do have a new cat :) Eva is a little over a year old and has been with me for a few months now. She owned the place within a couple of weeks, of course. I got her from a friend who could no longer keep her. I had lived with cats before but never had one that was my own. I had been thinking semi-seriously for a while about getting one and decided to save this little girl from an uncertain future. Aside from being cute as hell, she came with skills too. She is the queen of the tinfoil ball and actually fetches ! Not unheard of, I know but, it's cool ! Makes my job so much easier ha ha ......

Hi @PinkUnicorn - I wish I could wave a wand and make it so! I agree, there is a log jam, but some of it is law over which the FDA has incomplete control. I'll try to give a high-level view to a complicated situation. Regulations in the US and Europe are different - it's easier for products to get onto the market in Europe because the bar for safety and efficacy (if and how well the drug works) is lower outside the US. The safety-vs-speed pendulum leans more to the "safety" side over here. Now this doesn't mean that FDA thinks a person is overall more safe by not allowing a product to enter the market, but that the drug has solid evidence to back up that it is safe and effective for use. I can't speak to the specific sun screen applications because I don't review drugs (I review devices), but some don't have sufficient evidence that they are 1) safe and 2) do what they claim to do. Here is a much cited example of US vs. Europe regulatory actions to illustrate this pendulum - the drug Thalidomide. It was prescribed as "completely safe" for morning sickness in the 50's/60's in Europe (the manufacturer had NO EVIDENCE to support this claim). Thalidomide was submitted to FDA but had not yet received US approval. Pressure was on FDA to approve the drug, but one scientist in FDA pushed back that adequate data to support safety and effectiveness was not provided. While this drama was in progress, 2000 babies in 46 countries were born with tragic birth defects (anyone recall babies with deformed hands/feet, no arms, etc.?) FDA declined to approve the drug, and it was eventually withdrawn elsewhere. Anyway, this is a very obvious example of the difference between the two regulatory pathways. (I've also munged prescription regulation vs. over-the-counter regulation but for illustrative purposes.) Regarding sunscreen and those ingredients ... this isn't all on FDA - it's also solidly in the lap of our Congress. FDA doesn't make laws - Congress makes laws that FDA has to enforce. FDA is bound by this part of the Food and Drug Act. There are other mechanisms such as the TEA process (Time and Extent Process) which is being used to get some of those European sunscreen ingredients allowed in the US, but this also requires rule-making, a period for public comment, and getting data for safety/effectiveness after an ingredient has been used for 5 years in the EU. (A cynic might speculate that the US is waiting for bad shit to happen elsewhere, and when it doesn't, the ingredient might be ok. This can allow a US manufacturer to avoid some/all costly clinical trials.) For those interested, more detail at a higher level is here: Regulatory Explainer: Understanding the Regulation of New Sunscreen Ingredients. The approval process, if implemented in a timely manner, is not a bad process. The "timely manner" is the hard part. I could go on and on about challenges and inefficiencies, unethical manufacturers, political pressures to subvert safety for the sake of profits, etc. But those are stories meant to be told to the accompaniment of adult beverages.

Isn't that a feeling of relief! No more room left for huge sittings. But then on the other hand, after all these years drilling the suit, I'm gonna miss the whole design stage. That's what I've heard as well (mother-in-law is a dermatologist :rolleyes:). That said, the calculation doesn't seem to quite work anymore for high SPF. As far as I know, SPF 50 protects only a tiny bit longer than SPF 30 and is not really worth the money. What’s Wrong With High SPF

My cat does the same thing....the main difference being that it does actually almost weigh 40 lbs. (Last time at vet it was 37lbs.)

I've never figured out how cats seem to magically become pieces of lead when one tries to move a contented cat from a lap. Calvin puts on about 40 pounds when I try to move.

To take little bits of styles, kind of like techniques (whip shading, thick lines, etc.) and to add it to your "arsinal" is one thing. To just rip someone's very specific style is bullshit and a whole other world. Look at something else as an example. Certain comedians nab bits and pieces of one anothers style and work, but make that bit fit into a whole that is really their own. Red Foxx, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy etc is an example of the movement. But when they straight jack jokes and bits? Carlos Mencia style, fuck that shit, it's weak. How do you even call yourself an artist then?

I've never been to Canada during the summer so I can't speak from my own experience on that, but I don't think anyone knows humidity like the deep south does. The worst I have ever encountered. Never before had I lived somewhere where you pretty much have to chew your air before breathing it. It'll get 10 degrees hotter here in CO but still feel like an ocean breeze compared to the swamp-ass south. #dryheat

Just got back from a three-day silent Buddhist meditation retreat with Noah Levine and Against the Stream in Joshua Tree. Hard to be away from @TrixieFaux and the little one, but it was beautiful and challenging and (hopefully) life-changing. There was a lot of high-quality tattooage on display -- I call them Tatuddhists -- but of course I couldn't ask anyone, "Where'd you get your work?" Noah himself is pretty much covered with work from @Scott Sylvia and I think @Juan Puente, Eddy Deutsche and some other dudes. Funny how I kind of stumbled upon ATS. 1) At a kids' birthday party, a friend introduced @TrixieFaux to this other mom and was like, "You have tattoos, she has tattoos, you guys should be friends!" As if -- but it turned out she was pretty cool and also Noah's wife. 2) A few days later, we went to a Jondix art show here in L.A. (where we met @ian among others) that just happened to be at the center. I don't believe in all that hippie shit but for sure the universe was trying to tell me something. Anyway if you happen to be in SoCal check 'em out Against The Stream Buddhist Meditation Society but they're also opening one in San Fran and in NYC there's Dharma Punx which I plan to check out when I'm there next month.
