    Hi all

Just wanted t say hi to everyone. I got my first tattoo at 50, followed pretty quickly by a second. Ten years later, I'm getting ready to add a third. I figure no one can say, "You'll regret that someday young lady"! Looking forward to seeing everyone's ink and to hearing what's on your minds.

  5. Just like when folks ask you how many tattoos you have, and when I'm fully complete, I'll just respond "one."

Never have either. Get asked the same often too. All I can do is guesstimate. It's a round about way for people to try and work out how much ya paid for your suit 3 pints of lager & a packet of crisps please

    Plague or Cholera

This is going to be fun, but the question is way too easy! Shunga all the way, because it's at least going to be a beautiful tattoo! But if I had to get some shunga on my neck, I'd honestly probably go with Dan Sinnes over Horiyoshi III simply because I'm more into the way Dan Sinnes has taken shunga in this really weird, crazy, gross-out way that to me is more appealing than the more traditional shunga. Though there's still some really wild stuff there in the original reference. Anyway, here's a Dan Sinnes tattoo of a vagina Daruma riding on a penis turtle:

  8. Yeah, going all three days is EXHAUSTING. It was really a lot of fun though, got a great tattoo, saw a lot of great tattoos, showed my butt to people I hold in very high esteem, hung out with friends, made new friends, and all around had a great time. It's weekends like these that make me feel really fortunate to have a part, however small, in this crazy tattoo thing. Here's a picture from our LST brunch meetup on Saturday: I've probably said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again, but y'all are a great bunch of people: smart, funny, interesting, fun to hang out with. I'm proud to call you friends.

  9. Same thing @Mick Weder said, people ask how long or how much, I just tell 'em I tried to tally it up once years ago and couldn't do it. If I started my back, however, I think I would probably keep track of hours.

    Best post tattoo care?

Pretty much just drinking a pint of cider in the hot shower. Nothing technical, I don't think. More ritualistic, but for some reason it works a treat.

    Do you track hours?

Yes, in fact I am a giant nerd and I do haha! I've been keeping a spreadsheet for 11 years. So I have all my stats of my tattoo collection. Each tattoo is assigned a number to track the sequence my collection. I track each piece by hours, # of sessions, the hourly rate and cost along with start and end dates. For me this spreadsheet has been an interesting tool, I can compare the costs and time of my various tattoos. I can see who has given me the most add-value, bang for buck over the years although I am satisfied with the quality of all the work I wear, no regrets. Tracking also has helped me come to understand the process of tattooing better and gives me a clearer picture of hours/money to budget for upcoming projects, accurately. I've gone so far where from the stats I can determine the percentage of my collection that has been made by each tattooist and how much time and money I've spent at various shops. I am well-aware how much money I've spent overall for my decade worth of tattoos but that is never something I disclose. But most of all, it's just a fun data set I can play around with. I like knowing all the stats and facts on my collection, for myself. I also have collected the majority of my line drawings and/or stencils. I'll probably put together a book of my collection and stats for my family once I'm old and even more boring!

    Do you track hours?

I'm tracking hours on my back piece. It's pretty easy because each session ties pretty nicely to each of the elements he's adding, like 6 hours for the clownfish/anemone, 3 hours for the sea snake & coral, etc. I'm type A enough to want to know hours at the very end. However, I do NOT want to know how much I paid! (Resisting urge to do the math...)

    Best post tattoo care?

Even if it isn't, I'm taking a note here, and gonna tote an ice cold cider into the shower when I wake up Saturday morning. I'm pretty much destroyed after late night sessions anyway - may as well wake up and self-medicate straight away!

    Hello there....

True...True! I hear you. There are plenty of shops nearby in Everett and Lynnwood, where the rents tend to be cheaper so I have a feeling I'll be "safe" for a little while at least! Haha

  24. Well it's not peeling anymore, but the skin still being raised? This is my first tattoo ever so I have no idea what the after effects usually are. But if you run your finger over it, you can still feel some of the lines a bit. Does that mean it needs to continue healing or am I good to go now? (And here's a fee pics of the outline so you can see what it's gonna look like)

  25. I basically have the eagle off the mexican flag tattooed on me, but I imagine you could do a lot of fun things with golden eagles and even Hawks. - - - Updated - - - Ashley has a few of these hawks designs drawn up, this one someone is doing on their rib.

  26. @TrixieFaux - glad it went well! I feel like you should start a thread of cute things your students have said about your tattoos, because kids' reactions to tattoos is one of my very favourite things. :) And re: my own tatjam, check instagram! Glad I am not the only one who is anal about strategic shirt sleeve lengths.

    hello

I still haven't seen this tattoo so I don't know what advice I would really give you, as far as how to fix it, nor can really say if this guy was trying to get fancy with it, or just didn't know what he was doing. Even though a tattooer might tattoo hundreds of people a year, I think most people want to put the best product out there, because it's there name. Listening to the tattooer most of the time is going to get you the best tattoo, giving them more control is going to be better than micromanaging the experience. Not everyone has to connect with a tattooer on a personal level, but I find getting most of my tattoos by the same person has helped, because we are very open with each other about likes and dislikes in tattooing on a daily basis. Feeling comfortable enough to say you're not into something, but at the same time knowing you can trust them to give you a good product is a good feeling to have. I have many other tattoos, I'm not totally stoked on, but I feel like have no one to blame but myself. I didn't know exactly what I wanted and I didn't know the right people to go to, so i got what I got. They are all pretty cool tattoos, but not the tattoos I would get today.

Too excited about how cool this looks to not share it. Please excuse the redness and peeling. This was the progress from my second session with Henning. About 11.5 hours total now. One more short session needed to color the tiger and the last few leaves.

  34. Aquaphor healing ointment is the most consistent at healing tattoos quickly and without incident that I have ever used. A small amount twice a day is magic. I recommend washing the new tattoo with very warm water and antibacterial soap using your hand (as opposed to a wash cloth). Pat it dry gently and then allow it to air dry for 15 to 20 min before applying a small amount of aquaphor.

    Fitness!

@polliwog a couple of friends have had great success with the Couch to 5km program for building up their fitness. Couch to 5k - C25K Running Program I used to run a lot in my 20's (approx 30 - 40km a week) however due to some back issues it's no longer an option for me and I really miss it.

Here are some photos from my sittings at Midnight Moon. I just sat for the 3rd time last Tuesday. Mat and I decided to increase the size of the sleeve to 3/4 to add more water and large lotus flower. The lotus flowers represent my three daughters, my wife, and the final one, my mother.
