Alright, luckily we got started late and could only do 5 hours. That was enough. I made the mistake of going in on Sunday for a deep tissue massage. That made everything extra tender and sensitive for Tuesday. Never get a massage before a tattoo. Just don't do it. This session covered hair, robes, wind bar/cloud touch-ups, adding orange to the fire. Also a healed butt shot. From Instagram danahelmuth; (Damn, looking at my butt up close, look at that scar tissue on the red in the snake! He beat me up.)

I also got a lady head from Steve Boltz, which I am in love with, but all the pictures I tried to take were shit. Maybe I'll try again when it's healed...or maybe I'll just keep it to myself.

  4. I had a mate a while back now bust my balls because of the extent I have myself tattooed, saying he could never justify the amount of $ spent for such a selfish interest. It kinda blew me away a bit, & the only reason I engaged the conversation is because we grew up together. A) you don't know how much I spend, you only guesstimate going by average "shop hours" B) I don't go out pissing my money against the wall C) my family are provided for, kids are schooled, clothed, fed, dance, swimming, martial arts, piano, violin, orchestra, swimming ...the list goes on...all paid for. Isn't it fucked how people feel they have the right to call you out on your priorities when all they see is what they see sitting in front of them. It's like another dude I know said riding a motorcycle is a selfish mode of transport. Like, WTF? How can that be selfish when my 11 & 9 year olds and Mrs love riding with me. I think we only feel guilty sometimes because it's pushed upon us by fuckers who should be looking in their own back yard before commenting on ours.

  6. When did "selfish" become the new catchcry for living your life how you choose and doing things you love? I'm apparently very selfish for choosing not to have children and spending all my money on me, and was also labelled selfish when I had my motorbike too (OMG you'll fall off and DIE! So selfish!) People need to live and let live, and mind their own damn business.

  9. @Breakme. Fuckin'.....hell! That there's no mate. That's just a breach of friendship morals right there. With mates like that, who needs fuckin' enemies right? Oh, and don't people understand?? Ya don't "fall" off fuckin' motorcycles. You either crash for riding beyond your capabilities or because some retard t-bones ya 'cause the fuckers not paying attention. My old man used to break my balls all the time about riding, until this one day when I was taking the bike out, he comes in & says to me....mate, ya shouldn't be riding ya know fuckin' bla bla fuckin' bla. I snapped at him saying...fuckin' hell mate, I know how fuckin' dangerous it is on the roads with the amount of wombats out there trying to sandwich me out, the last thing I need while I'm mentally preparing myself to ride safe, is you reminding me of how fuckin' dangerous it is. He's never said another word about riding since. Anyway, @Graeme. Ya right. People can stick their latest gadgets, tea towel & spoon collections up their arse. I've got my corner covered, they should concentrate on theirs. - - - Updated - - - Yeah, I forgot to mention. I hate motherfuckers who ask me how much I spent on tattoos. Like, I really fuckin' hate that. I tell 'em, it ain't about the money. I don't count, nor can I put a $ value on it. It's something a lot deeper than a superficial material need. If people gotta ask me how much & why, I tell them now...those types of questions tell me you have no genuine interest to understand the origins of tattooing & what it means, so I refuse to waste my time trying to educate the curious. Fuck 'em.

@Mick Weder I can't speak about your mate, but I feel the people I've gotten the most incredulity about the money I spend on tattoos are exactly the same people who will drop thousands of dollars on a fucking 4K TV or whatever so they can watch Extreme Couponing or whatever heap of fucking shit in razor sharp definition on a screen the size of their wall, because new technology! I've never spent any money I don't have on tattoos, and I don't feel any guilt for the money I've spent on them.

  11. I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but are you seriously for real? Touching of strangers no matter what gender you and they are is totally inappropriate. Having tattoos is not a valid excuse for this un-acceptable behaviour.

  12. I think you'll find it has EVERYTHING to do with him being a creep. I can't be arsed to critique the rest of your post. Musn't engage with creeps on the internet (unless they are extremely attractive, then they cease to be a creep and instead become charming. Hmmm.... Can you post a face shot so that I can decide?)

I'm going to Ikebukuro tomorrow for a consultation with Horitoshi 1. Excited and a bit nervous. I keep on imagining (hopefully) paranoid scenarios where he explodes saying something like, "You want me to tattoo what!? How dare you!"

Finishing mah buttcheeks with Scott Sylvia next weekend, its like an Ukiyo-e Geisha and some swans. Worth mentioning that IMHO Scott Sylvia's Japanese tattooing has got to be some of the most underrated and unassuming out there...not sure if we'll finish but I can't think of anyone who tattoos faster, guy is blazingly quick. Looking forward to posting the finished product.

@idyllsend Obviously I'm going to Dave because he makes really great tattoos, but I have to admit that it's a really nice bonus that the shop is about twenty minutes away by public transportation. I really like travelling for tattoos, but when you figure in travel costs, hotels, restaurants, having to take time off work, etc., it's a really massive commitment beyond just getting the tattoo, which is a pretty serious commitment by itself for large work. @Euchild There are so many great ones!

  21. It doesn't only happen to women. My tattoos are not fully covered by some t-shirts and I've had people who were basically strangers lift my shirt sleeve to get a look at them. And I - and probably most women - would consider a stranger grabbing your arm without permission to fall pretty squarely under the category of "extremely inappropriate".

I just got back from another fun-filled session. 3 hours of stabbing on and around my spine....fun fun fun :) This time a lot more black went in (coat and bow mostly), a bunch of purple in the coat and bow and some pink in the Kitsune's feet. I have another 2 sessions planned (in 2 weeks, and the last one in 4 weeks), and the piece should be done then!

I hope by "won't post further here" you mean this forum in general, because when I look at your posting history, you haven't posted anything about tattoos since January, whereas all your recent posts have been on this topic, and not in response to anything in particular, I might add. If I'm being generous, you're a clown-ass fucking troll. If I'm not, I'd say that if you aren't a rapist, you're really good at playing one on the internet.

  41. I had a similar conversation with my best friend. I do sometimes feel guilty about spending this money on myself, but I'm buying something handmade and meeting amazing people. To me that beats a closet full of mass-produced clothes or a lot of (probably unhealthy and fattening) take-out meals. The flipside is that there are a lot of broken things in my house that haven't been fixed yet...

  43. My airline doesn't allow any visible tattoos either. When I was hired we didn't have a skirt, only pants. So I wore pants and long sleeve shirts. Then when we got skirts I lobbied for opaque black stockings, and was finally allowed. Level 80 denier is what covers my calf the best, but in the last year I've been wearing compression stockings underneath my thinner black ones. Unfortunately they don't make compression hose opaque enough to cover my calf (and now thigh) tattoo so if I want to wear compression hose I wear two layers. I could just go back to wearing the pants, but I like the skirt better!

  45. That's really nice that you dipped into the tattoo piggy bank to help out your son. I have an actual piggy bank (well, it's a Chinese lucky cat bank), when I get a pretty good paycheque I go and take out 100$ or something and stash it in there, if I try to mentally compartmentalize my savings into tattoos, and other stuff I get lost, so having tangible cash for tattoos is a much better way for me to save up. When I had my last sleeve done I asked for gift certificates from the shop for my birthday, it was awesome how a bunch of my friends pooled together for a gift :) As for my husband and I, we keep our finances mostly separate so we save for our tattoos independently of each other. That's why I want to get most of my legs done before we have kids, then I'm sure we'll actually need to budget for things haha. Sometimes I forget how easy two incomes no kids is. Props to all you guys with kids and continuing tattoo projects.

  47. i was stuck on who i wanted to do my back for the longest time, but it all came together last year... seeing @ironchef's collabo put the light bulb above my head, then seeing instagram pics of jondix and chad traveling together in Nepal illuminated it. they're both the best dudes and i thought their friendship, mindset, and contrasting styles would make for an interesting collaboration. i knew they both frequently attended the SOG/SFO convention in Oct., so i sent 'em an email with the thought as soon as it hit me in April. lucky for me, they were both super into it! we bounced a few emails back and forth and they ended up drawing on a Philippine eagle on top of frontal skull in Chad's hotel room at 12:30am, after the first night of the convention. most of you can probably guess who did what. (photo taken by @ian) it was great to experience the magic happening right behind me... although i couldn't see what was going on, i could feel it and hear it. i've had individual artists draw on tattoos and an usually artist thinks and does what they do pretty quietly... but when both of them are drawing and thinking together, they have to verbalize those thoughts to each other. i had the pleasure of listening in on these two tattoo geniuses' thoughts as they shared. speaking of tattoo geniuses, another piece of magic happened... just as they were finishing up the drawing, Mike Wilson and a few other folks visited the room. Chad happened to be a little stuck on how to position a wing, so Mike chimed in with a perfect suggestion, getting in on the collabo! after that, i basically had to sit tight for 35-45 minutes while they attacked me and lined whole the damned thing. there was some artistic and technical discussion during the tattoo, but there was one last piece of collaboration to be done... i had originally requested to incorporate one of the symbols from Jondix's 108 Marks book. this was to be the last thing they were going to tattoo, but instead of going with the symbol i requested, they decided to collaborate and create a whole new symbol. they took turns drawing a piece of it and passing the sharpie back and forth to each other. when they were happy with it, Chad made it permanent. i've since had one more session with Chad out in Napa. Jondix won't be making it to the SFO this year, so he's trying to convince me to get out to Barcelona or London, but funds, the wife, and work schedule are iffy. i can't wait to see it come together, but i'm patient enough to wait for things to align. i'm waiting for the artists to share pics before i do.
