I hope one of your two week students doesn't make the same mistake and put "there" on someone instead of "their" LOL I remember when I started tae kwon do my sabumnim said to us...... "In the first two weeks I can teach you some basic techniques to defend yourself and just enough to get you in trouble......BUT.....I can't teach you the discipline.....that takes much more time!" Again.....why is this still posted up?

    Relationships and tattoos

First post here, I'm on the other end of the relationship... I don't have any tattoos and when I met my wife, she was already pretty covered up(thumb, wrist, arm, foot, multiple pieces on her back, ribs). I always thought it enhanced her features and was part of her and her personality. I don't know that it necessarily impacted my decision going one way or the other(I think her trunk had a much bigger impact :p) but I definitely always thought tattooed ladies were more intriguing than non-tattooed. My opinion on this has only gotten better the longer I'm with her, we've been together nearly 7 years now and married for 5 years (anniversary in 2 days) and I couldn't imagine being with anyone else, she's my best friend and if for any reason I'd ever end up being single again, I think I'd certainly add a checkbox on my list of criteria to include tattoos moving forward. I was one of those guys who always said I'm never going to get a tattooed unless I go all out and get sleeves done... I've always had designs and thoughts about what to do and what to get, but it was always just a thought. I was that guy you guys meet and can't stand who love to talk about tats but doesn't have any. Sorry! Well, she's been pushing for it long enough now that I was on a waiting list for nearly a year and am now booked for 2 sessions to get my 1st sleeve done in October. I'm so excited, I can't wait...

  10. Hey everyone, Obviously a newbie, figured I'd finally introduce myself. I'm originally from Quebec, Canada. Met my American wife back in 08, got married in 09 and have been in New Hampshire since 2010. She's always had tattoos and I always thought she looked amazing with them and finally decided to take the plunge about a year and a half ago when I began doing research for shops, artists that fit what I wanted to do. Been lurking on this forum and absorbing as much information as possible since then... Found the perfect artist a year ago and got on his waiting list, been sketching and saving reference pictures and ideas ever since... finally received the call a few weeks back and I'm finally booked for October 10th for the first session and a 2nd session on November 7th. I'm going all out, starting out as a 30 year old fresh canvas, I'm getting my entire left arm sleeved. The plan is to get the 2nd arm done pretty much as soon as the 1st one is all finished and healed up. Money's already saved up and ready to go, I don't think I've ever been this excited to hurt for anything else in my life. :D

  11. Ugh.........why??? Go the fuck away and make money off of some other business.....leave tattooing to those who have earned the right to do it!!! Why is this even still up on here???

  12. @JAllen I'm with you man. This is all kinds of the wrong approach. This shit wasn't meant to be given away so easily. Two week courses...this is as awful as TLC's Tattoo School.

  14. So I just searched LST for posts about waxing before tattoos to extend that smooth feeling you're longing after, and the only hit was @Cork asking this very question a couple years ago. He was soundly ignored. But here you guys are with your sly winking about mystical exhilarating feelings lately, maybe you should go give it a try. ;)

  21. Hey there, I'm Ashley! I'm 19, from MI and work with a ton of exotic animals! I May have a slight obsession with tattoos! Ha! I'm new to the tattoo world. Got my first one in the beginning of June. It's a wolf paw with a black/silver wolf with the night sky and a moon inside! I needed another..so I got another! I started a black and grey half sleeve of a snarling wolf stepping over another wolves' skull! My next appointment is in the beginning of August to do the background to finish the half sleeve! Now, I already set up another appointment in the end of August for another! Not sure what to do yet, either something my artist drew up, a snake and dagger, or an undead horse. Well, I don't mean to toot my horn, but I'm suppose to be getting a Raven tattoo by Bob Tyrell in September as well..fantastic, huh?!

    Painting Methods & Materials

Mineral spirits or distilled turpentine would be a good choice for thinning out, for sure. - - - Updated - - - I spent the better part of two years working on just the right gesso recipe for silverpoint drawing - many many tossed boards, lots of dust and bad gesso batches later, I finally have the recipe that works just right for me and my needs. It's going to take time, experimentation and research, that's for sure!

  26. Yeah I have to say I cant wait till we get to return to the back area. Hopefully only a few more shading and background sessions on arse/thighs then colour on the back. :) Cork, You can have your shaved arse and legs. Might feel smooth for 2-3 days but then just is itchy as hell and horrible to deal with. I cant see any scenario in future that they will be ever shaved again. :)

  29. Well, I didn't,want much bigger than regulation. Bolder, yes. Have to admit the touch-up stung more than the original. Still a half hour before I take the bandage off, but it looked good in the mirror at the shop. Better than the first day, in fact. Lines are a bit heavier. I'll photograph it once I've washed it and let it dry - before I put her after care on. - - - Updated - - - The result: (this stung much more than when it was first tattooed)

@petiloi and @beez, such great work on both of you! I love Diamond Club. I was lucky enough to see Bill and Junii yesterday at the Japanese National Museum in Los Angeles. I also got this in LA from Horisuzu: Perfect fit. I'm so happy with it.

  35. Pretty bad article. It seems like he is going out of his way to create a conflict between people who have tattoos and people who don't. There are way too many people here in Minneapolis with tattoos and without tattoos to divide along those lines. I still prefer to create the divide lines more like "people who are assholes vs people who are not assholes" and this writer makes it pretty clear which side of that cultural divide he resides on.

  36. Soooo, I was trying to take an all-things-tattoo-hiatus until October but the boys were getting tattooed so I thought "Oh, I'll just get a little gap filler from Paul" (like I did the previous day with Bryan Randolph)...and this happened. 37. Dean Bloebaum at Infinity here in Portland made this one for me. He has a few cobras in his flash and I've always liked his skulls, so I said "Cobra-dagger-skull" and this is what he came up with. I'm stupid stoked with how this turned out. Edit: Even before the color was added I thought it was pretty cool.

    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

Hi guys!! For those who have not seen on Instagram, I was a dumbass and scheduled three days of getting zapped on my last trip to SF. That shit is hard on the body!!!!! @cltattooing made an awesome stabby skull for me, and then we hung out w @CABS, who is an alright type of guy (understatement of the season!). Junii added color to my froggy, some shading and background and outlined a peony on my thigh. We started the first snake! Matt (dr claw) started on my serene butt snake. Shad will be starting the mean back snake in October, and Junii is doing the thigh snake (I think?!) I was not the only one getting my butt drilled (word choice?) in the shop that day. I had the pleasure of watching Drew Flores begin one of the backpieces that is part of the 108 heroes of LA project. How cool is that?!? Also @petiloi was in the shop getting some work done by Bill Salmon. Hi!!! I did not identify myself bc, you know, tattoos. But it was cool anyway! Pics attached. Warning: Butt ahead!! (Nice asp, I know. Tips hat to @CultExciter for that one).

  42. I've travelled to Texas and London to get tattooed, and none of them are perfect. As blasphemous as it may sound to say this, my Steve Byrne hand tattoo has a few little flaws (specifically in the lines in some tougher areas). That being said, it's still perfect, and still my favorite and most meaningful tattoo (one of the few with a meaning). Perfection is boring, anyway.

Last time I was getting tattooed a guy came in for his appointment and he'd just about disembowelled himself trying to shave his stomach for the appointment, I think if you are handy with a razor, shave, if you're not maybe leave it for your artist. ;)

  47. Photo heavy post... I'll include the captions from the Life article where appropriate. Not going to post the whole Irezumi book because there's lots of images, and there's something magical about flipping through that thing... some things are best discovered through some digging. These are by far the coolest shots from it, though. The tattooer they cover is called Apache Harry. There's a shot of his travel kit and flash set up on the first page. He has a sign reading "Tattoos Removed Without Scars. Apache Harry. #22 Bowery NYC." "For decorating 'Six Ring' Dutch and other clients, tattooist Apache Harry makes $3,000 a year." "Front view of Michael Brandmaier. His 300 designs by Apache Harry are worth $400." "Rear view of Michael Brandmaier. It took four years to tattoo him all over." " 'Professor' Wagner is responsible for this girl's condition." Irezumi, 1966.

I say this all the time. I can get away with a lot of coverage because I wear a shirt and tie every day, but I would love to get my hands done someday. I always tell my wife that the day that I retire I'll be going to get my hands done. If PA teacher pension/retirement holds out for me, it should be in about 27 years. But who's counting?
