  6. I haven't been getting tattooed for very long and I don't have a lot of tattoos so I don't think that my opinion carries much weight, and nor should it, but can we have a bit of outlaw spirit in tattooing still please? It's cool that the people here for the most part are pretty average people with regular jobs, families, and lives and that the one badass thing we do is get tattooed, and while I can't speak for everybody here, I at least would like it if this part of my life could be removed from the realm of legal responsibilities and obligations and the rest of that dreary world. Take some fucking responsibility for your own actions. If you have any questions about aftercare, especially when you're getting your first tattoo, TALK WITH YOUR ARTIST ABOUT IT THEN AND THERE. Don't wait to be handed a printed out sheet of aftercare advice and then moan about it on the internet when you don't receive one.

    Worried about tattoo

I'm a big fan of putting a pillow case over the area and slapping the shit out of it. - - - Updated - - - I also just made a Firestorm reference in my office, no one got it...

    Worried about tattoo

Oh, I got the point alright :). At times though it's hard to hear what someone is trying to say when we are deafened by the anger of their words. My apologies for any unsolicited advice. I will recommence snuggling with the wife because life is awesome and I'm a peace loving hippy.

  10. This is from when I first got my back done. I got mine at a cloth store. I don't think that's they intended that 8ft piece of wool fabric for but it worked well :p

    Tattooing for only a year

Let's make this a thread about tattooers who haven't been tattooing for very long who you are excited about. Here are some pictures stolen from Maud Dardeau's instagram. She tattoos at Tin Tin Tatouages in Paris and has been tattooing since 2011, and is already super impressive. I would absolutely get tattooed by her: Instagram https://www.facebook.com/MaudDardeauTinTinTatouages

    Worried about tattoo

After reviewing this thread I just realized I've never gotten aftercare instructions. Weird. I did get my firs tattoo within a week of my then roommate (who happens to be tattooed). He told me what to do.

  21. British Museum - Shunga This looks interesting! Produced from 1600 to 1900 and banned in Japan for much of the 20th century, these explicit and beautifully detailed erotic paintings, prints and books inspired Toulouse-Lautrec, Beardsley, Rodin and Picasso. Mostly created by the artists of the ukiyo-e or ‘floating world’ school, these popular works were known as shunga, - literally ‘spring pictures’. They appealed to all classes in Japan for almost 300 years, and to men and women alike. Frequently tender and humorous, they celebrate sexual pleasure in all its forms in brilliantly coloured paintings and prints, culminating with beautiful and explicit works by iconic artists Utamaro, Hokusai and Kunisada. Within Japan, shunga has continued to influence modern forms of art, including manga, anime and Japanese tattoo art. The exhibition sheds new light on this unique art form within Japanese social and cultural history. I think I will head down on Saturday before my back consult with @stewartrobson !

  22. Yea being an adult sucks sometimes. Sometimes I get jealous of my kid neighbor as he explains to me how he just sits around playing video games and smoking pot all the time. He didn't understand that I can't just "play until like 4am every night". HAHA

  24. @davidborjes No one here is trying to ruin anyone's livelihood. I didn't see any artists named, and it's not like there is a witch hunt to shut anyone down. Not terribly long ago I got a killer tattoo and no aftercare instructions, but I wasn't worried because Google and common sense are my friend. Whether it was an oversight or whatever doesn't matter much. I will still gladly travel across the country for more work from him. That being said, caring for a new tattoo may be second nature to some (to you especially I'm sure), to tattoo virgins it can be a source of anxiety. It's certainly not a boycottable offense to forget to give out the info, but it certainly will help ease the virgin's mind. I understand why you are angry Dave, although no one was attacking you personally. Being the cool guy you normally are, I'm sure the name calling and personal attacks are just a biproduct of you caring for your profession and getting a sensitive nerve hit. Let's all have a drink together and let the air out :) Have a good day dude!

    Hey

Hey, just made an account earlier today and I guess I have to post an intro lol. I've only recently got my first tattoo, after having the idea of it for about 3 years. From 2008-2010 I went through Leukemia treatments, so that is why I got the Orange ribbon in this tattoo. The heads still need to be shaded, this was just after my first sitting.

  31. Aye trad is a bit like that , different interpretations of Traditional themes , exactly the same as blues or jazz in music , however , photorealism is pure smoke on the water. how many times can you see exactly (not an interpretation of) the same tattoo of Salvador Dali twirling his mustache or Pinhead showing off his bad dental work ...

  40. I wasn't sure if I should post this or not but I think my friend wouldn't mind. My other fave interpretation following the Hardy one. Any biters that steal this idea can get the gasface. Freddy Corbin. Summer of 2000 done in the back of an RV transformed into a tat shack. Lousy photo. It happens.

    Tattoos and the workplace

Oh man...I had a job 5 years where only two people knew I was tattooed. It was a fairly uptight office and we were required to wear long-sleeve dress shirts and slacks. Just short of a necktie. I would work out at the gym across the street on my lunch break. One day, I was in the locker room in nothing by my underwear when one of my coworkers walked in. I will never forget the look on his face. I had just finished my backpiece, and he definitely got an eyeful.
