Nice. What are you thinking about front? I can't recall the exact names for each, but are you thinking about full front or open shirt? And from Rodrigo? I've been following his Instagram for a while now and his stuff is so good. Also, a hilarious aside. Dana is a true professional. As I was admiring my butt in the mirror this morning, curiosity got the better of me and I was thinking "How far did he really get in my butt?" So I spread my cheeks, and I notice that the flame ends were pretty deep, but that they were scalloped. Dana took the time to scallop the edges in my butt crack. What a guy.

  3. Second session today with my buddy Iain Mullen on his collaboration with Rudy Fritsch. Beyond happy with how this is progressing. We did the lines with two machines almost 2 months ago and I had gotten used to seeing it that way. Now with some of the black in I am amazed by seeing it come to new life again.

Howdy, been a way for a while but my daughter's girlfriend, who lives in a tiny town in eastern Indiana, decided she wanted her first tattoo. I helped her scope out her area and there was no one worthwhile there so I went and gave her a ride so she could see Jereme who did the mushrooms on my leg. I decided I like the mushrooms so much I'm just going to give him that leg so we started talking about what to do next. I said I was thinking of something along the lines of a red winged blackbird perched on a fence post. Both him and the guy that owns the shop started nodding and thinking that would work out well, then the conversation went like this: Jereme: That would be pretty bad ass, but you know what would be better? Me: What? Jereme: A red winged blackbird perched on a skull. Me: Oh fuck yeah, that would be good. Jereme: Yeah Me: And you know what would be even more bad ass than that? Jereme: No, what? Me: A blackbird, perched on a skull, with a fuckin dagger through the whole thing. Jereme: Fuck yeah, now you're takin'. So there ya go, the next tat. Now I just have to gather up some cash.

I'm more than happy with the result, and must give props to @Joe Shit and @Nest for recommending Gerry Carnelly at Octopus Tattoo in Derby. Speaking of which, here's a picture of the result from his instagram:

I don't know what you guys are all complaining about. I look at all the "tattoo pain" pictures on the internet and they all show the butt as one of the spots on the body where the pain is lower. I think you guys are all just looking for attention and the opportunity to show off your backsides and using this forum as a way to publicly admire butts and your S&M tendencies without the shunning of society.

    Happy Hello to All

Hi. My current location is Las Vegas, NV. I've been lurking around the site for a while and finally decided to register and have some fun. I have several tattoos - Some I love, some I don't. But I love tattoos, the fun ones, the serious ones, the what the hell were you thinking ones - All of them. I like seeing the expressions we choose to decorate ourselves. The stories behind them or lack thereof. Oh and the skill of the art fascinates me. Thanks for all the great laughs, cringes, and information so far. I'm happy to now be a bonafide member. See you in the forums.

  12. Procrastinating, drinking wine and reading through the past few weeks of this thread is the most recent awesome thing I've done ;) I'm coming off a fabulous weekend of playing music with good friends on a little road trip to Quebec. Our second stop was Donnacona, QC. Nice little town with an awesome blues festival. We played there last year on the main stage but, this year we were booked in a club for a late show. When we arrived, we found out that, with our consent (we consented like motherfuckers lol), we were being filmed for television by TVA, which is a national French language channel in Canada. It went really well and is set to be broadcast nationally in October. We lucked out. They had intended to film the outdoor stage but, decided on an indoor venue due to rain. The promoter recommended that they film us. Very sweet deal. As an aside, the only other time that I've posted in this thread was around this time last year after a trip to Quebec with the same band. Playing in Quebec just plain rules. Last year I was blessed to have a brief but lovely meeting with one of my idols, Johnny Winter. That is one of the most awesome things that has ever happened to me.

I think @gougetheeyes brought up interviewing a Native American tattooer and discussing his take on Indian-themed tattoos. (At least I think it was gouge who mentioned this; I don't feel like rereading that earlier thread). This is something I would be interested in reading, with the understanding, of course, that one person can't speak for an entire diverse group of people. I think the subtext of these discussions frankly has little to do with tattooing, a lot of the time. Also, we are a politically diverse bunch on here. But I do appreciate tattooers who are thoughtful about their use of symbols that are sacred or otherwise important to other cultures - for instance the evident care that Chad K. puts into his Hindu deities. It sounds like you're already on the right track in thinking about it before you put it on your body.

Unless you have a really really strong need for certain parts to be certain colors, let the artist decide. They have much better experience about color palette and flow, and what color combos works best to balance out the entire design.

  17. Black and Blue is up-island in Nanaimo, I believe. Rob Noseworthy does indeed do great tattoos. A friend of mine has a great tattoo from Bobby Tripp who works there, and I've heard nothing but good things about Bobby as a person as well. Steve Moore also tattoos in or around Nanaimo, I assume at some kind of private studio, and he's amazing. In a kind of similar style, there's also Dave Knight's shop, Second Street Tattoo in Sidney, BC. Dave tattooed at PSC Tattoo in Montreal for years and moved out west a couple of years ago. He does really great work.

  19. Deviod of Redemption off of their first album is one of my favorite songs over the last few years. The new album is very good. The one negative about Pallbearer is that they are very hit and miss live. I had a chance a early last year to see them live while they were headlining a tour with Fuck the Facts and Cough and they sounded really good. However, I saw them last month open for Deafheaven and they sounded absolutely atrocious. Today is the Day released a promo for their upcoming new album yesterday. Really looking forward to it after not being impressed with the last two albums.

  28. I have not used this yet but I've read this thread. Unless someone chimes in, leave it on. People in this thread have talked about walking around with a puddle in there, and only taking steps when it got pretty significant or had big concerns about leakage. So I'd say leave it on unless the volume gets concerning then come back and ask again.

  31. This probably isn't awesome to some people, but I de-activated my facebook account on the weekend. I just couldn't take all the nasty comments from people on so many posts and articles. The vile hatred that some people spew is astounding. It was so negative and really affecting my outlook on life and humanity. I still have my IG account, but am staying away from reading people's comments when it looks like there is a shitfight going on.

    yelp & tattoo shops

I will say first off that I don't work for Yelp and I don't own a business reviewed by Yelp. (And I read between the lines when I use Yelp.) But I read the FAQ and I design algorithms and some of this makes a lot of sense to me. Ignore all this if you want ::shrugs:: but it at least partially explains your rating and can help you improve your rating going forward if you wanted to. So, I'm repeating my Yelp quote from above for completeness: Sifting through your Yelp reviews, most of your shop's "not recommended" reviews are by people with 0 or 1 friends, and have posted only 1 review - for your shop. Also, there are a large number of reviews for your shop all in a few short periods of time, all made by people doing only 1 review - for your shop. And all of those reviews give your shop 5 stars. Some of the 5 star reviews include one from your owner and from someone simply complaining that there are bad reviews! From the Yelp FAQ, they use a software algorithm to detect trends like these and tag them as not recommended. From an algorithm standpoint, these look like fake reviews designed to inflate your rating. You could easily have gotten those reviews by having all your friends sign on and create "fake" reviews. As you might suspect, this happens all the time on Yelp. Now, you say that the reviews are genuine, but you, the business representative/owner, took an action to influence your reviews. Yelp doesn't like that behavior (lots of 5 star reviews from people only having reviewed 1 business in a short period of time). As a consumer, I would look askance on those reviews as well. Also from the Yelp FAQ: So, now that you understand how Yelp works, you can game Yelp back. If you want a review to be recommended, ask your clients to post the review RIGHT AFTER they get the service, not by making a mass call for reviews all at the same time. The reviews need to be randomly spaced out in time. And tell some of them to give you 4 stars - which is still a great rating. That will still help your current rating and have less of a chance of the review being rejected. Also, ask your owner to respond to negative reviews with a short, professionally-worded reply that shows you are being responsive, not defensive. My $0.02. YMMV

  42. i was gonna get an native american lady head but i didn't and now looking back on it i am glad i didn't get one...not judging anyone who has any native american traditional tattoos...i think some look great...but just not on me. after reading bury my heart at wounded knee (if you are into history and want to read about native american perspective of the history of the west this book is great and brutal) i can't watch john wayne movies and i really can't think that even the classic native american tattoo designs are not somewhat racist and historically inaccurate. but like somebody else said i imagine most native americans have a lot more pressing concerns than what some non native american folks have tattooed on them. pretty sure anthony keidis has a tattoo of sitting bull on his arm i feel like thats a little different than having an anglo looking lady head with a war bonnet. more like a tribute idk.

    NY Ink TV Show

This is on Daredevil Tattoo blog about the NY Ink Show..I couldn't have said it better. That's right I said it. People keep asking what we think of the new show and I'd say that about sums it up. I only saw the first episode. We've been expecting the worst and it's the worst. Chris Torres is the only artist in fact from New York and he was cast as TLC's tattooed answer to Jersey Shore. Their space is reminiscent of the set of Friends. Ami's shop, or I should say TLC's new tattoo parlour on Wooster Street is the unrealistic equivalent of Monica's huge apartment that only a character on TV could afford. All the "I hope I can pay the bills" is a joke. Real life tattoo shops do not have ads on the sides of buses. They're casting the same sorry customers. Dead babies, cancer, tragic endings are needed for inspirational subject matter. (nothing against memorial tattoos except TLC thinks that's the only compelling reason to get tattooed) I'm surprised at how many people actually think there's any reality involved. The scenarios are scripted it's become an hour of bad acting and cheesy scripts. As interesting as a tattoo shop can be and as much fun as it is to get glimpses into our customers lives and their motivations for getting tattooed the reality is that these shows are orchesrated by people who have no actual interest in our industry. There is no understanding or appreciation for the truly fascinating stories and backgrounds of the people who come through our doors (not just the sob stories). It's a caricature written by squares who think they know what a tattoo shop is about. It takes a lot of talent to really portray people's reality in a way that is respectful and truly compelling. I'm a huge fan of documentaries. I love learning about other people's realities. But it takes thought and vision to capture that spark that can be so interesting. Something that doesn't easily fit into the drive by format of a TV series I guess. It's too bad that there is no respect for our industry involved in the creation of these shows. Tattooing is such a rich subject matter it's dissapointing to see it dumbed down for the masses but I guess we shouldn't expect anything else. By the way shame on TLC for knocking off our friend Mark Mahoney's shop name SHAMROCK SOCIAL CLUB. Devil City Press
