  6. Alright, image heavy post incoming! So at @BrianH 's suggestion, I posted a scabby piece, here are some more pictures of the heal and a couple of tattoos I've gotten since. (healed) by Sean Perkinson at FTW in Oakland By Rempe, also at FTW during a guest spot. and then this one is from a couple weeks ago by Casey O who is new at Chicago Tattoo Co. and spent a week guesting at our shop. One of my favorites so far I think.

  12. I work as a care giver at a group home for people with downs syndrome and similar handicaps. One of the inhabitants has a father who must be close to 80 years of age. EVERY time he comes to visit and I am there to greet him he will comment on my tattoos. Every. Time. He is probably senile and not aware of this. Last time was different though.. he usually opens up with saying "those are hard to get rid of..", like it is a question. I usually just say Yes, and smile at him. Then he asks me if it hurts, I tell him Not anymore, and smile some more. But this time he also said that he had tried (to get tattooed), on his hand, but that it had faded over time. And then he told me that (my tattoos) where prydsamma, which is a swedish word that translates to "something thats proper and enhances the beauty of a thing/someone". I was flattered for the first time. I didn't know that he liked my tattoos, just that he would always comment on them.

  13. I started my back last month, neck to knees, a large Oni/Hannya faced lady holding a lantern - taking reference from the scale of Shige and Calle style backpieces, but painted by the artist. I was incredibly nervous going into it, I had built it up in my mind to be the worst thing ever, and I was stressing out about not even being able to get through the first full outlining session...I have had a lot of work done before, and this kinda added to the worry, because I know how bad it can hurt, and how much I do not enjoy getting tattooed! The first session went really well though, I think the fact I had been waiting and wanting this for so long really helped - I wouldn't have ever let myself quit halfway through. The back is NOT an easy area, there are some really bad spots, for me it was behind the kidneys, thin lines on the spine as well as the whole coccyx area...it all sucked, those areas just stood out as being particularly bad! I have had two big shading sessions since then, healing is tricky, thank christ for my girlfriend helping with the bacitracin, also it has been hands down the itchiest tattoo I have ever had! Maybe because it covers such a large area, and everything is itching at the same time! it has been an eye-opening experience so far - It feels like a long, daunting task to get the whole thing finished, once session at a time I guess!

    The ED HARDY Thread

I don't think we have a thread dedicated to Ed Hardy, so let's use this one to share anything Ed related. If anyone deserves their own thread on here it's gotta be him, right? I spent my evening rewatching some old Hardy interviews, and I even found a couple new ones (to me at least). Here's a few of them. Joel Selvin chats with Ed Hardy about his life in tattoos at Book Soup in Hollywood Interview in conjunction with "the unruly art of Don Ed Hardy" exhibit that was displayed last year Part 1 Part 2 - - - Updated - - - I have more, but there's a 3 videos per post limit, so I'll have to wait untill someone else posts something in here.

  32. Chads fast but expect to wait....not that its a bad thing because your at a convention but hes rarely on time. But you all will end up with great great tattoos but baby the fuck out of them. My back has been going well with healing and my wifes chad tattoos healed really well but the first one I got in a tough spot and it needs a little touch ups but a lot of that was me at the time I didnt really get how I should be healing more "deep" heavy tattoos. I changed my method and Ive been fine. Hes like Ron jeremy, he goes DEEP. You guys will love it. I love that guy! I mean it one of my favorite people in tattooing.... really bummed Im missing out but I think he will be back in N.H. later this year so ill be patient. Please post pics.

You know that Ed Hardy backpiece that's a rose with a panther face in the petals and all sorts of other crazy stuff? I asked him for something like that but on my lower leg. I was thinking shin but we'll see what he thinks.

    Time.....?

I think it was pretty cool of Stewart and a few others to actually take some time to throw out a few answers to this! I have never even thought about asking an artist this to be perfectly honest....lol! I like their work.....I go and get tattooed by them and usually just ask them up front how much I should save up....and I bring the cash plus whatever I am going to tip them with!

  43. A friend of mine found this and scanned it for me. Since it's in Life magazine--in 1961--I expected it to be on some, "Well, thank American Jesus that's illegal now!" Instead, they seem to complain about the ban. "Effete civilization is smothering the 4,000-year-old art." I'm also intrigued that a Coney Island carney still counted his 59 tattoos, all of which had devolved into "purple pictures." About this "needles and matches" method: I assume the matches are to burn paper to create soot which gets mixed with water (or, you know, piss)?

Surely someone here can post a photo of Ed shirtless. I know I've seen one (I believe it was taken at Chicago Tattoo Company a few years back?). I'm reading his memoirs and I'm dying to see his torso piece from Horiyoshi II.

  45. I went in yesterday since their "Fleet Week" is going on and got a rib tattoo from Ross Nagle visiting from Ireland. This shop is the most gorgeous tattoo shop I've been in. Such a nice design, huge without feeling vacant or cold, tons of amazing tattoo history covering the walls and cases. Seriously, stop in even if you're NOT getting anything done. It's worth looking it. Eye candy. Plus they played Iron Maiden live the whole session.

    Thick Scab/Scar

You're actually babying it too much. You're gonna need to let it dry out completely. After a day or two, you can start putting some Lubriderm on it. That scab will take a little longer to heal, but if you let it be it should heal just fine.
