my employer just set up a little fitness area (2 treadmills and 2 elliptical) in the office. most of my coworkers know i have tattoos but i feel like i'm going to get a few odd reactions when people start seeing me in shorts and t-shits.

Trying this again; getting tattooed by Robert Ryan tomorrow! yaay! This appointment has moved more than the Freelings (bonus points to anyone who gets that reference) and I'm really geeked to get it started.

I work as a carpenter on commercial sites. Tattoos (usually bad) are quite common and fairly accepted in non-leadership positions. I just started with a new company this week and I'm slowly meeting my co-workers. Today a lead laborer showed up. It was chilly this morning so he was wearing a hooded sweatshirt. Looked like he might have a body suit because his throat was done as well as some hand and knuckle tattoos. As the day warmed up he took off his sweatshirt and low and behold Warped Tour Body Suit!!! It was pretty awesome, I tried not to laugh out loud. Highlight of the day.

Oh man...I had a job 5 years where only two people knew I was tattooed. It was a fairly uptight office and we were required to wear long-sleeve dress shirts and slacks. Just short of a necktie. I would work out at the gym across the street on my lunch break. One day, I was in the locker room in nothing by my underwear when one of my coworkers walked in. I will never forget the look on his face. I had just finished my backpiece, and he definitely got an eyeful.

There are plenty of people I missed getting tattooed by because of when I got into it. There will be plenty of people I'd love to get tattooed by but won't because I won't have space or won't be into getting tattooed anymore or whatever. That's life.

How about, "I really wanna open a tattoo shop. Well, after I learn how to tattoo." There was a whole conversation that followed in which the person I was talking to was offended when I suggested that she spend some time and money actually getting tattoos first. You're right. You have two 3" tattoos you got a few months ago and even though I started getting tattoos when you were 10 years old, I am really disrespectful and most likely have no idea what I'm even talking about. Giving. the fuck. up. trying to be helpful.

So for those of us that aspire to cover most if not all of the body in tattoos from different people I am interested in how you and I think about how fast to get covered. It also deals with the concept of why we get tattoos and from whom. Starting points: - Would you rather get the tattoos you want as quickly as possible, or wait and spread it out over a longer period of time? - Do you have a plan as to which areas you cover in which order? Saving the hands for last or getting the worst spots first, maybe getting the visible spots first and save back of the thighs for example? - If you consider yourself a collector, do you keep areas of your body untouched for fantastic tattooers to appear say 20 years from now? - Anything else you would like to add or discuss I am really interested in hearing your perspective on this! ----- As for me, right now, I am spending a lot of money, time and pain on getting tattoos. I know what I want and I know from who, so when the opportunity comes I have nothing stoping me. I live very cheaply (my rent is about 1/3 of what I spend on grocerys a month, and I am vegan and eat pretty economically) I just think that tattoos, for me, is one of the best values to have spent my money on, instead of partying or buying expensive material objects. So the problem for me is I need to get more picky, or else I'd be covered in 4 years from now going at this rate. (I'm 26 by the way) Some tattooers that I really like I get prints from instead of tattoos. Also I think I am constantly refining my taste because of being exposed to so much great work through the internet everyday and talking to people. I am beginning to think that I do away with the worst spots before I turn 30, as I've heard your tolerance to pain drops quite a bit after that. But I am also saving my back until I turn 30. Other than that I am saving my shins and inside of the calfs for later because I get so many injuries there from skateboarding. Hands, neck and face is out of the question and perhaps I'll get the top of my head tattooed. For me getting a tattoo because of pivotal events in my life or because of personal sentiments are less important, I do photography for my memories. I'm not the kind of person who save a spot for my children's name or for a memorial tattoo of my parents or stuff like that. The thing that hit me some time ago is that for the short peroid of time that I've been interested in tattoos (5 years perhaps) I've discovered a lot of great tattooers, some that I later ended up not liking as much. But in the coming years, like the rest of my life, new amazing tattooers and new "styles" in tattooing will develop and I will want to have some room for that. ----

didn't even know this was happening til someone posted about it on instagram. i'm already driving from pa to richmond on nov. 1st to work on my back. probably going to drive back down for a day to hang out at the convention and hope i can get tattooed by mike wilson!

I had the consult for my back with Dave not too long after he finished that one and he seemed pretty in awe about how well she (that tiger is on Vero who tattoos at Tattoomania) handled it. I am not that tough and I am totally okay with that. Though I wonder if it would be so bad having a couple of really shitty months of healing and then having it done instead of spacing it out over months or years... @rozone I am super excited to get it started. Dave's tigers are so good and he's such a nice dude and PSC is a great shop.

I just re-read this thread and it reminded me of something funny. The first tattoo I showed my parents I had a much nicer reaction than when I show them newer ones. I usually get the "Ok, show me the new tattoos." When I visit. Although I can say they are getting much more bold, and bigger.

In my experience so far, getting a full back piece is the best and worst feeling at the same time. That being said, it's completely 100% totally worth it, and Dave C is going to make your back look insane, @Graeme. He did an Oni on the back of my right thigh (from ass to back of knee) about a year ago now, and it's the coolest tattoo ever. Nicest guy too.

ive been tattooed by bob roberts, fip buchanan, and henk schiffmacher. im pretty sure henk was pre 1985? great tattoos from all three of them, and a great experiance as well.

And from what I've observed and will experience in the not-too-distant future, "I'm so excited, when can I start it" is followed by "MY GOD WHY I AM SUCH AN IDIOT". That seems to go back to excitement though.

Might as well work on the other areas of your body until "takes forever" stops being the worry and "I'm so excited, when can I start it" becomes the predominant feeling.

I think the show and the competition is complete shit, worthless, but the one thing that I think has come of it is using the guest judge category to put the spotlight on quality tattooing, cause the contestants sure can't accomplish that. It really doesn't matter what I think of Oliver, and as much I feel like I wouldn't care for most other people that do what he does, I think he does more good for tattooing than bad. I think putting on the Elm St convention really sealed it for me. There are so many shitty tattoo conventions that are selling tickets by promoting z list celebrities and runner ups in shitty tattoo shows as headliners, most of these things run by non tattooers, and often people with little interest in tattooing, except the amount of money it could put in your pocket, but Oliver decides to put on a quality convention with only top tattooers, there is ever opportunity to have some big company bank roll some tattoo convention shit show, where they would pimp out his celebrity and those on the show to try to sell tickets to juggalos and reality tv junkies. Ultimately I don't think it matters what I think anyway, but that is a small snip it of how I see it.

Had some really odd ball comments when I went to the Electric Zoo festival. Favorite one was...... "Bro, seriously sick friggin tatt dude. Like I just want to drop acid and stare at it all day. By the way ya got any?"

I think the question of big pieces versus a lot of smaller pieces is an interesting one. The extreme of big pieces is a bodysuit from one artist... The extreme of small would be having all one-shots, I guess, or nothing bigger than sort of middling-sized. Guess the grass is always greener to some extent... I really enjoy getting one shots these days, because they're easier to squeeze in more of, and require less planning, but at the same time they don't pack the visual wallop of a big piece. And some designs and styles only really work at a certain scale, IMO....

We all know the show is shit, I am just saying that at least using your level of celebrity to get peoples name out in the general public that deserve it. You know anything useful that they say isn't going to make it to air, and most people watch the show for drama not for the tattoos, but along the same idea as Stewart said, who else would you want representing the tattooing professionals in shows like this. How much worse would the show be if some hacks were getting famous and promoting themselves weekly on television. I would love to see Tattoo age come back, but I understand projects like that aren't as easy to make happen as green lighting a television show with major network backing and a list of sponsors.

This one was done by Dave Cummings in seven sessions over two months. So yeah, it need not take years. I don't think I have the ability to be tattooed that much in that short a time period though.

Oh, I didn't take offense to your comment. I was definitely a zombie after a day of dieting on Xanax and sprite. The 4 hour ass tat didn't help but I definitely over did it and I completely feel like I owe the group an apology.

Those both look cool. I'm not really a fan of the first one just because it seems very heavy on the right side and it sort of looks off balance. He needs a heavy sleeve on the left arm to achieve bodysuit homeostasis.
