  2. It's been a little bit since I posted in here. Loving everything about my new surroundings. Great friends, great shop, healthy living, 20 minutes from any one of three mountain trails and 30 minutes from 3 more. New with a question

Hello and welcome. The artist who did the tattoo will have the best advice about healing and aftercare, so the best idea is to contact them if you have any questions about how your tattoo is healing. That said, I'd stop with the ointment and let the scabs dry out. Keep the tattoo clean and dry and you should be good.

  4. Oh I am sort of jealous of you fitness dedicated folks. The holidays totally sucked that away from me and into piles of homemade cookies that are still circulating through my house. I'm not even sure how that's possible. Too many... That being said, I did just get back from traveling in Israel. Woo! That's the view of the Dead Sea, looking towards Jordan from the top of Masada.

    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

This past summer, I was sitting on the bench at Congress St tattoo, waiting for Chad Koeplinger to finish up the appt before mine. Turns out he was running a bit later than I initially thought and it was going be a little while till we could start. Soooo, I took advantage of the extra time and had Jebb Riley start a pretty huge panther coverup. Honestly, while I had been planning on covering up an older tattoo that I have, I didn't approach Jebb with that idea initially, but rather I just wanted get a nice medium sized tattoo by an artist I really liked, while I waited for Chad. After looking at his very awesome sketch book, I saw a really awesome little panther, and well, one thing led to another, and I couldn't be happier. The night of my appt with Chad, he just lined the panther. This past Saturday he added the roses (love them), and did most of the shading. 4 and 1/2 hrs, and not all of it peachy :) One more session to go for some more shading and color. Jebb is an awesome dude, and I had a blast getting this tattoo. btw- initials were clearly there before, and spared during the coverup (hoping to have him clean them up the next time) The actual tattoo getting covered is a medium sized celtic knot tattoo from about 20 years ago. It was done well initially, then I made the mistake of having someone else touch it up. It was scarred and screwed from then on. SORRY ABOUT THE SAGGY PANTS!! I was a mess at the end. ---fixed pics! Thanks @MadeIndelible ----

  8. and if you do continue to use ointment or lotion try out using far less. rather than leaving a big shiny layer put on a tiny amount and rub it all the way in. a good rule of thumb is if it's shiny, there's generally too much stuff on it.

  10. I think Jellyfish tattoos a pretty cool. A lot of them that I see though remind me of Ernst Haeckel's paintings. For those who don't know who on earth he was, he was a biologist/artist and whole load of other things around the end of the 19th start of the 20th century. Anyway I've put some of his paintings below so that you can see what I mean about the similarity in between his work and jellyfish tattoos. It might just be me seeing similarities that aren't really there but especially the picture with the coloured jellyfish on it I feel has been referenced a lot. Which is great because it's awesome.

  13. I spoke to another Veteran at my work yesterday. He was pretty covered, and out of curiosity I asked him politely where he got his tattoos (or pieces of crap, as he called them) done at. He couldn't remember the artists who did most of them, but he pointed out two specific ones. He told me that he got two (on his outer biceps) done by Charlie Wagner in Portsmouth, Virginia. He told me Charlie mixed the ink with his spit then said "tattooing has changed a lot from those days". I wish I could have spoke with him a little more, but I didn't want to keep him from going about his day.

  14. Kings Avenue is THE place. I had Grez tattoo my chest many years ago. the vibe of the place, the world class talent they have under one roof. so goddamned good. also, the deli two doors down is a great place to eat before you get laced up.

  17. Hi all, Small update on how it went on Friday: Aside from train troubles between Londen and Brighton, everything went rather well. My blood is thinner, that was to be expected, but the bleeding didn't make it much harder for the artist. So we were able to do almost 4 hours. Me very happy, one more session and it will be done. For anyone who might be in the same situation: the medication didn't make it impossible to get the tattoo for me, and the healing seems to be going rather smooth. Maybe a little to early to say, but no troubles what so ever. Grtz, Arne

  19. I had a friend who was visiting in Milwaukee from Albany, NY and he asked me a good artist to start a navy sleeve. He had been getting his tattoos done by some guy who discounts sailors, all Super Mario characters which look terrible by the way. I pointed him towards a couple artists I was familiar with around town who do some great tattoos. I asked him a couple days later if he booked an appointment yet, he said he would just go to his guy back in Albany because the guy gives a discount to Navy guys. I just left it at that. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

  20. I've been on a long road trip across America, and on the way, I've gotten my first couple tattoos. The compass rose is from Cassady Bell at Sideshow Odditorium in Portland, OR, the banjo is Ryan McDonald in Nashville TN. My friends definitely give me some shit for having a banjo on my arm, but I love it. Banjos are rad.

    Hand Tattoos

I would say both parents and administrators are more than ok with visible tattoos. I´ve got full sleeves and wear tattoo or band shirts for work every day. No prob. I guess hands could make a difference while applying for jobs, but I like to think that there´s lots of schools here who would appreciate teachers for their job, not judging tattoos.

  25. @iowagirl & @graybones I have printed, resized, reprinted, cut out, and taped numerous images to my body. It never quite works in showing what it would look like as a tattoo since the paper is always awkward and the background is too white, but it gives some idea of how it could look and maybe more than anything works in getting me psyched!

  29. What you get out of tattoos has a lot to do with the effort you put into getting them. Coming here and saying you want a good tattoo when you seemingly can't be bothered doing any legwork yourself, not even to the extent of looking through portfolios on the internet and seeing what you respond to, doesn't bode well for you.

  31. I have never had someone listen to my advice on tattoos, at least apart from LST. It's frustrating, especially when my little sister gets a giant shitty tattoo on her forearm then tells me that I have ulterior motives when giving her advice.

  34. I belong to a jewelry forum, and it's not uncommon for members to draw things to scale and cut them out, tape them wherever the jewelry will be worn to get an idea how things will look, get some perspective. (I've done it myself) Has anyone gotten that obsessive w/tattoo placement? I ask b/c I mentioned tattoos above my knees to my husband and he thinks it would look funny unless they were large pieces. So now I want to print out some heads and tape them to my legs. Does this mark me as insane?

Taking the jeep out for a few days in the pine barrens for camping and off-roading. Possibly picking up a 1969 CJ5 and breaking out the new millermatic to weld up some fun stuff.

    Hand Tattoos

All-time favorite is on a friend of mine, mostly because of how silly it is. What do gorillas think about? Bananas, duh. By Drew Rash. Additionally, here are three I've seen on Instagram recently that I've loved. Another Tim Hendricks. Squeezing a readable ROA on there blows my mind. Grez. Does it get better than classic roses on a hand? Grime. And to totally tweak out the classic rose, a rose skull morph.

  47. i haven't really got anything helpful to say re placement.. i didn't know i was going to want to be tattooed as much as i am (and continue to be) when i started out. I think its always a really good idea to listen to your artists opinion on placement cos generally they know where a tattoo's going to work best.... i'm a bit of a fan of the 'jumbled' look anyway.. i know that doesn't solve your problem but i guess what i'm trying to say is placements something only you and your tattooer can decide. There's no right or wrong.. in my person opinion :)

I have a friend who lives in Providence and has been thinking about getting tattooed, I'll let him know about this. He's doing a masters in graphic design at RISD so he probably wants some pretentious art school garbage, so hopefully he'll act on this and actually get a good tattoo. But I doubt it.

  49. This tattoo was done on my boss Ross Ferrie by Pinky Yun in 1982. Ross always tells this story of getting this dragon along with many others of Pinky. Pinky basically dipped a toothipick in some black ink gave himself a few reference points and just started tattooing on his arm. Ross admits he wasn't so sure at the time but the end result turned out. The other photo is Ross and Pinky in 1982 and a painting our friend Ashley did for Ross shortly after Pinky's death. Note Ashley painted this while in New Zealand only from what he remembered it looking like.
