  2. i'm not going to clutter up the board by making a thread for it but.. today i made my first tattoo, and i thought i would share it with you all. i have been apprenticing for a bit and was given my first pair of machines last month. today he let me put this small design on my cousins thigh next to tattoos by all my favorites. was incredibly nerve racking but turned out better than i expected :D

  3. Those of you who follow Lee M Knight have probably already seen this one I got from him a few weeks back but here it is anyway. Done at Cult Classic Tattoo on my trip to England. Was a ripper bloke to get tattooed by and he went out of his way to make this tattoo happen!

  9. Well, there is a right and a wrong, there are also rules. Sure, rules are made to be broken but doing that without properly understanding the whys and wherefores (or taking advice from someone does) is likely to make one look like a bit of a prat, often. - - - Updated - - - I don't know the rules, the rights, the wrongs, the whys or the wherefores. None of them. So, yeah, I do as I'm told.

  10. If you ultimately desire to be tattooed by <famous> tattooer...shoot them an email and be prepared to wait. Be polite, clear and concise on what you want, demonstrate you are serious. No need to disclose who your Plan B artists are at the shop at this point. I'd wait to see what (and perhaps if) you get a response. If you get turned down or don't want to wait, then you could ask for a recommendation of his colleagues. I waited patiently for 2 years to get my back started by my tattooer. I kept in contact every few months after he said he was into the project. Eventually got measured up. And then suddenly it was "we can start next Tuesday or Thursday". He's in high demand and has the luxury of choosing the projects that are up his alley. But I'm sure he gets bombarded by emails. So be patient. Good things come to those who wait...

  11. If you are looking for Japanese tattooing that is a three hour drive from Seattle I have two suggestions. Chad Woodley tattoos in Vancouver BC. He doesn't post a lot of tattoos, but his Japanese stuff is as good as you will find in western Canada. Jason Kundell is in Portland Oregon, and he is as good as it gets. His style isn't exactly what I think you are talking about when you say bold Japanese tattooing, but it is definitely bold Japanese tattooing. Just maybe not as traditional as you have in mind. You also have Jim Rosal in Yakima, and Bo Mcconaghie who tattoos somewhere right outside of Seattle. Having a Hori attached to your name doesn't necessarily make you a good Japanese style tattooer. Nothing against Horiyru. I am familiar with his work, but it isn't something that I am into. It is all a matter of taste so if you like his stuff don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

Yup, I love my Chad eagle, and if anything I wish I'd gone bigger with it. And I want another one. I'm also totally un-badass - though to my mind yoga instructors are pretty tough, since yoga kicks my butt every time I try it. I feel like eagles combine power and grace with toughness in a way that still feels natural and not try-hard on a pretty nerdy person like me. I couldn't get away with a dagger on my forearm or something.

I know that @MrsGougeTheEyes has one on her forearm that I believe she got from Cody Miller and I'll vouch for it being super rad. Also @polliwog won a Tattoo of the a Month contest with a big rad fuck off Chad eagle. I think Chad's eagles are the best, they're so powerful. I don't know how much my opinion counts for here, but I'm going to say that eagles on women (or on men) are pretty fucking badass.

    Hi all

Nice, clean designs. I don't plan to collect, either. I have my third scheduled for the 27th. A faked line on my right forearm. Thinking it might be my last, but then maybe a cameo with a silhouette that looks like my wife on my left shoulder....

  19. I guess you are right. The one on my back, really has no meaning but it was my first and I will treasure it, as this was my first step at making a decision where I didn't have to put it past my parents. Saying it like that, I guess it does have meaning in a sense.

    Hi all

Ok so here are the tattoos I have. Nothing fancy or spectacular. The paw is my latest one...looks well dodgy right now, It was recently touched up as my wrist was not taking the ink very well. The one on my calf has to be touched up soon because after taking the picture (or getting mum to take it) I noticed some little white spots where the ink fell out, so that needs to be done. They aren't the best work of my artist and I know some may post negative words, please refrain from this as it will make me very paranoid lol.

I'm another one who prefers lining to shading, I'm afraid. I find it really quite soothing, shading sets my teeth on edge. Lining my stomach was intense but doable, the wee bit of shading there was time for was horrible. Am really not looking forward to the next session. - - - Updated - - - Well, I am looking forward to the next session actually. But, yeah <shudder>
    1 point
  22. Yeah, i can't believe anyone can find shading worse than lining! All i could think through my back being lined was "the shading is going to feel almost nice after dealing with this". I've got a relatively small amount of single needle stuff left to sit through and i'm dreading that way more than the several hours of shading.

i think that final piece should be open category - especially if its gonna be for all the marbles in past seasons they factored in the whole body of work nunez still did but oliver swayed dave dave even said i'd rather wear cleens work i think cleen had the best work of the day and of the show but i do like jason and was glad he won and he has been a guest artist at one of the shops i go to heard good things about him as a person from those who know him well funny thing though if josh didnt get tossed - jason prob woulda never made the final

    Famous tattooer protocol?

Unless the fame has gotten to their head, then you should act the same toward them as you would any other tattooer. Ask.

you're a wild man, I HATE lines, its the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I would take 6 hours of shading over 20 minutes of lines anyday. My hat is off to you, sir.

I had to have some of my back re-lined, including all the area that had originally been lasered. Apparently even 4-6 months after the final treatments some of the new ink continues to disperse. On the other hand, it didn't bother me at all. I'd rather have lining any day instead of shading . . .

  30. to me - i think all tattoos have meaning - even if it was just marking a time in your life in which you had no idea about what to get tattooed on your body - maybe you just felt compelled that you wanted a tattoo - you wanted to peek behind that door - thats why i think i often like tattoos that people share where there was a poor design or application of the concept - the tattoos are 'bad' but in a cool way - dont get me wrong - i would hope that folks that get into getting more and more ink seek out better artists or think their ideas through a little better so they end up with tattoos that enjoy wearing - but i just have such love for those "crappy" ones that so many of us start with

Oh it gets better than that. I was just informed by my artist on Saturday (prefaced with a "I don't want to scare you, but...") that when we're done my back we're going to have an extra full day session to reline it. Now that I've been through it once, I think full day lining sessions are only a thing because the client really doesn't know any better at that point. I felt like I'd been hit by a cement mixer after the first one, no idea how I'm going to get through the second. The answer may be alcohol.

I'm thinking about sweet eagle tats, and possibly having one, or three, on me. Are there any ladies out there with some good strong eagles on them? I do think of eagles as more of a masculine back piece/ chest piece, and I'm no tougher than a geriatric miniature poodle. To be clear, I'm not asking for opinions of what to do with my body. I'm wanting to get feedback/pics regarding eagles on chicks, from chicks with eagles, or dudes that love chicks with sweet eagle tats. I'm also not opposed to finding out whose eagles are so good that they make you mad.

  41. I haven't posted in forever, and I guess I never entered this one from Steve Byrne that I got over the summer in Austin. This is still the best photo I have of it, but it healed nicely. Arm is just about done other than very small gap fillers. Based on this World War I German propaganda poster about the dangers of Bolshevism that I saw earlier that day in a World War I exhibit in town.

There is no one perfect artist. If you want to limit your search to women, then do that. There are tons. If finding what you define as "the perfect artist" is more important, then look at work without regard to the sex of the artist. Not much to think about there!

  43. Hi all, About to highjack the thread. My justification is last activity on this thread one week ago. I am a newb so I cannot start a new thread. I have used the search function without result. My question is along a similar line as the Op's question. That being said here goes. for my second significant tattoo I want a Japanese style. I live near Seattle and don't want to travel too far so I can do multiple short sessions. My first tattoo I traveled to SF (Analog). Did 5 1/2 hours day one and four day two. Rather not go that route again. I have found a portfolio of a guy in Vancouver BC called Horiryu I. Shop is called Strictly tattoo. They seem to have a lot of artist's who's portfolio's look to be along the lines of what I want. Any one out there have experience with Horiryu I or the shop? Would you recommend? Thanks for your feed back. Please don't hurt me too bad if this post is a egregious example of bad forum etiquette.

  44. Ah, happy to announce I've joined the dedicated crew here...started by backpiece yesterday! Lined in from shoulders to back of knee. Some long line pulls and wow the bottom of the ass cheek wow that is advanced level tattoo. Thank you to the LST crew here for sharing your backpiece experiences, I felt it helped me be prepared for this important session. Sat for 3~4 hours and it was one of the most comfortable tattoo sessions I've ever had. My feet were totally relaxed the whole time. Very cool to reconnect with my tattooer. He did my first in 2003, a rib dragon in 2005 and my crane arm in 2007. Full circle, especially when this back tattoo connects to his older work. Tattoo is being made by Steve Batt (TheGangOfOne) in Edmonton, AB. We are doing a Shaolin kung fu monk with rocks, waterfall, cloud swirls. (You'll have to forgive me, I'm not quite ready to post up pics for the general public, and i don't want my tattooed ass to "break the internet".) This tattoo is the missing puzzle piece...all my tattoos neck to ankle are now connected! :) Feels great, my back is tie-ing everything together, and I've reached the bodysuit zone after 11 years, like I'm walking around wearing armour. But really this is just the start...gonna get going on black and colour in the new year and see what kind of rapid progress we can make.
